  • damnit, i really wanted to know what MrShankshank said, but his comment was removed :(((

  • What all parts did you have to replace to make it legal?

  • @Mathis8786 For the conversion, your replacing most of the trigger assembly, stock, and adding a pistol grip. So its 1 part for the stock, 1 for the pistol grip, and either 3 or 4 parts for the trigger group

  • @1117fire Not unless you intend to use non-922r compliant hi-cap magazines, pistol grips, or stock sets. Remember, for "non-sporting purposes"in a converted setup, there has to be no more than 10 foreign-made parts on the rifle. If you leave it in the factory setup and just replace the handguard with a UTG quad rail, 922r compliance doesn't apply.

  • cool vedio but next time do the work in front of the camara not off to the side(did not see you only table top

  • You aren't really drilling into the receiver. You are mainly just drilling out the pins that hold the trigger group in.

  • @rjs3484 - i saw on one of your tutorials that you purchased your parts from carolina shooting supp did you buy one of the conversion kits or just piece by piece? i just bought a 7.62 and plan to convert mine my self since the ones already built for you in vegas are about $880

  • @westcoaslteadfarmer Piece by piece.

  • @rjs3484 alright bro thanks for your time ill be using your videos there a big help

  • Whats the purpose of drilling into the receiver? Just curious, I bought one of these today and want to convert it into an AK. Let me know! Thanks.

  • the saiga rifles are made in russian in the same factory that the original ak-47 are made and where kalashnikov the inventor still works to this day. the are real ak-47 variant rifles and not fakes or clones.i hope this clears up some mis-understandings.

  • Why would you convert it rather than buying a regular AK?

It seems like a lotta work, I'd just go buy a regular AK. I know the russians make great guns, just not sure if it's worth it.

  • @NickPech Because the quality of a Saiga is far superior than most of the others. When I got mine it was $250 plus another $200 for parts. So $450 for a very nice AK is worth it to me, rather than some Romanian or Yugo pos. Plus the knowledge gained about the internals.

  • @rjs3484 An other good reason for this Knowledge is Gun Converting is very useful if you hope to get a Job Converting people with guns bought for "Home Defense" needs to Full Auto, Pulse its a Great Skill to always know.

  • @rjs3484 I have a Real Russian AK47 and a Romanian WASR .Apart from the shitty Romanian magazines I don`t see any difference. Neither one has ever jammed or not fired .I get the same accuracy from both rifles .I don`t see any difference in quality either and I was in the Military for 16 years so i`m not some call of duty kid.

  • @rjs3484 Do you think the Saiga is better thean a Bulgarian AK-47?

  • @Humberto4790 Better isn't a good word, but the Saiga are manufactured in the Izhmash factory in Russian where the designer of the AK himself Kalashnikov works. Bulgarians do make high quality aks, I mean top notch.

  • @rjs3484 >implying Yugo and Romanian guns are PoS

    Lol'd.

  • @NickPech It's much more difficult to import a combat style AK-47. That's why they're either sold as a kit of unassembled parts, or as hunting style rifles. Ironically, converting the hunting style rifle to combat style can improve legal compliance if you use approved parts. It's not always easy to buy a "regular AK" because many of the variants don't have readily available interchangeable parts and some use hard-to-get proprietary magazines.

  • 1 person broke their saiga during conversion

  • I have a saiga 223 wat parts do i need to get so i can have converted pistol grip and stuff and wat website to buy from?

  • you dont have to drop in a new trigger group for the new butt stock unless you are doing the full ak conversion

  • @MrShankshank What are you talking about? This isn't a Saiga 12.

  • @rjs3484 I'ts not a "Saga" 12, either.

  • @rjs3484 lol what a dumbass

  • @MrShankshank

If you going to make a strong stement at least FACT CHECK FIRST !!!!!

    Saiga not SAGA

This is Not a SAIGA 12 ( 12 ga Semi automatic Shot gun) which is next to impossible to convert back to 7.62x39

This is a conversion of sporterized Saiga back to AK-47 configuration

  • @MrShankshank

Do you even know what is going on? Lol.

  • @MrShankshank what the fuck are you talking about retard? the saiga is the only true RUSSIAN AK. its like 300 and 100 for a stock and FCG set. so your spending 400 on a real russian rifle. not some piece of shit 3rd world knock off. and what the fuck are you talking about? whats a SAGA 12?

ohh you mean Saiga 12, which still is wrong because that is a shotgun you retard

  • @MrShankshank

What do you mean "just buy an AK"? This is an AK, and the best AK variant you can buy IMO.

  • @MrShankshank if you knew anything about aks you would know it is an ak dressing with a hunting stock and modified trigger group witch is completely removable. The only difference is most ppl dont have the knowledge to convert it back and its all new parts not rebuilt.

  • @MrShankshank

you sir are a fucking troll and a idiot, these aks are built at izhmash in russia, the same place that builds the russian military ak rifles. Very high quality, and nowadays its cheaper and higher quality to convert a saiga then buy a pre converted WASR (romanian pos designed with single stack mags in mind with military reject parts put together by monkeys at century arms, why people dont do this more is beyond me, lazy ass people)

  • you dont need to do all of this just to get the pistol grip in?

  • @ak47iify You will need a new fire control group (trigger, hammer, etc)

  • @rjs3484 , can you put the pistol grip and buttstock on without a new trigger assembly? like just slap a buttstock on and pistol grip by grinding down the inside of the buttstock so there will be room foor the pistol grip nut and bolt?

  • @jaredleospirit Not that I am aware of.

  • @ak47iify He's changing Russian-made parts that come stock with the rifle to US made parts in order to make the weapon compliant with US federal law (922r). Only 10 (of the listed parts) can be foreign made according to that law.

  • @xgreciandelightx what is the purpose of that law may i ask

  • @alphacodexx To make owning an AK-47 variant rifle a pain in the ass. :| It's a federal law, they don't have to make sense for them to get passed...

  • @ak47iify

Pistol grip will required you to do 922r compliance.

Hence you have to do the whole conversion

you can get a stock with built in pistol grip. but i don't understand how those will comply with 922r

  • When I got to the step to drill out the trigger pin and the one in front of it, I did not use the 1/4 bit. It's too big for this job.

I found that two bits are needed, the 5/32nds bit to start. I drilled about 1/16th past the reciever hole on both pins. This bit is a smaller diameter than the pin. After drilling, the flare was in tact on both pins. I moved up to an 11/64ths bit and lightly drilled only far enough to take out the pin flare.....perfect with no damage to even the black paint.

  • nice shot of your toolset- is there a firearm somewhere here?

  • I know this wont help you now, but when you pulled those pins out with a pair of needle nose pliars, you could have just used a pin punch. Since you're not re-using the pins, damaging them doesn't matter anyway, but using a hammer and a pin punch (which should come in the kit with your center/drift punch) it takes a whopping two taps with a hammer to get each one out. Those punches really make life easier!

  • That's Russia advertises it as, a hunting weapon. It comes in several alternate calibers also, including .308 NATO

  • THANK YOU for taking the time to do this. its a great help!!

  • Great work so far, its nice to just see the average guy just walk you through the motions.

  • Yeah I saw that but didn't like it. I also wanted a better trigger.

  • can this also work for the saiga .223?

  • Yes.

  • too bad you didn't check out mississippiautoarms, you can buy a stock that will fit right on without modifying the reciever.

  • You need to convert! The Factory trigger SUCKS. I DId my Saiga 12 and my Saiga .223

My Saiga 12 I had to cut a square hole for the Pistol grip. My Saiga 556 alreadly had the pistol grip hole cut. I used the Tapco G-2 for my Fire control. I had to mod the hammer on the Saiga12 Go to Saiga-12 forum for corbra's details on converting the siaga 12

  • I got the Saiga assult rifle version that was imported. So I don't have to worry about converting it.

  • the stock he is using is only about 1/10th of the reason for doing the conversion. the gun needs to be ATF compliant with a new pistol grip. plus, the factory triggers suck! you should at least know what your talking about before you open your mouth.

  • Those are all over the place... some people call them half conversions but the advantage of doing this like he did gets a better trigger pull and cuts down the length of the weapon. Also the half conversion stocks can sometimes fall off from use over time o.0

  • @Halo2100 I see "Halo" in your username and already that raises a flag. Once you've actually done the conversion, you will see how "bastardized" these guns really are from the factory - all of the original cutouts and such are in the receiver, just covered up by a thin piece of metal. I did purchase the "goofy" looking PG and buttstock (tapco intrafuse) but it was so dumb looking, I decided to convert it. Luckily, I was able to reuse the buttstock.

  • @zchris87v Trolling are we?

  • @Halo2100 No, just stating that you shouldn't waste your money on the pistol grip for the unconverted saigas.

  • Dude, thank you so much for making this video. I was having doubts about converting my saiga 12, especially about doing it myself. I've been reading some tutorials, but none of them convinced me to "man up" to the task the way your video has.

  • I just got done converting my .308, and a video like this would have been nice to have at the begining. Unfortunately, the instructions at cross-conn weren't quite right for my rifle, but I did get it figured out in the end. Mine didn't have the extra pins for the rear trigger, so I didn't have to plug them, and the stock fit without modification.

  • were did you get your info at like what web site

  • Look at the description of the video to see which sites I got information from.
