he reminds me a little of simon philips in this video(or the other way around)... cause he just don't care if he has to play lead with his right or left hand... he just does it... damn that's awesome
awesome and insane? Trust me, I've played funk for most of my adult life. The groove is what you have to be ABLE to play. If you can't groove, then all the awesome and insane is just insane. These guys are not showing off. They are recording the drum and bass lines for the whole song for your benefit. Too many young players are only able to play insanely. We in the business either don't hire them or we fire them.
I'm lucky enough to have the album " Pick Hits Live" with these two guys playing live with John Scofield. It has , in my opinion, some of Chambers's best drumming.
just when i was thinking to myself..."Chambers can be a bit of a robot sometimes, but i guess he is just trying to show us the studio version of the Chameleon beat. Maybe he could mix it up a bit??".....THEN BOOM he unleashes the funk....
love that ridiculous on handed role on the HH at around 2:17
for Drakett, at 1:50 he's using a technique called linear playing, where you only play in an open space only one drum at a time whether it be bass drum, snare or hi hat
Practice doesn't help unless you are doing right and you keep challenging yourself.
What he is doing is using clean doubles and syncopating rhythms. Either get a really good teacher and then practice..... A LOT. -OR- check some educational drum videos and then practice..... A LOT
Im learning this drumming...the section with the open hi hat is much harder than it looks. Im not doing any of the later more complex stuff. lol. Lov the vid.
You sir need some Tony Williams, Will Kennedy, and Vinnie Colaiuta in your life. Both drummers you mentioned are good, but there's much more than the two of them.
I have seen Vinnie live with Sting. I also have seen Will live with The Yellowjackets. And Tony is a LEGEND!!! I was refering to Dennis and Carters ambidextrious abilities. Not that they are the ONLY drummers that are amazing.
Man he is something. I must say though, I don't like his recorded stuff near as much as what I've heard come from him live. Maybe it's the experience or something, but that is one drummer you MUST get out and see.
this is real drumming...amazing feel...when he goes between the dark crash and the high hat and then the ride and the high hat its sick...amazing syncopation
Good god I hate this song so much, but I'll give props for a sick groove.

Gary Grainger's face is really funny in this! He's having so much fun playing that bass riff. His smile at 1:18 is hilarious.

Practice until you're hands hurt!
BmGdrums 2 years ago
that dont help or im no doing it right lol
Drakett 2 years ago
What he meant to say was practice until your hands hurt everyday, and go back in time so you can do it again.

sharky199510c 2 years ago
Well, there's no 'right' way to practice, but you have to challenge yourself alright.
AkiThePirate 2 years ago
Well if you are practicing something that sounds right, but isn't technically right, then you develop a wrong technique and it doesn't help at all.
