@dabljusterable In any case, you have my point of view, whatever good that does you. Frankly, I could give you lots of better comparisons as well, but I heard something here that reminded me of WSS, and I thought it was interesting that Silvestri went for a similar feeling in "Back to the Future". I had the audacity to express the thought here. If it doesn't fit your ear, I can only say I'm deeply sorry. I wish I could make everyone agree with me. :)
It can also be several elements of style-specific music theory in use. Take Jazz for example, look at all the compositions that jump from the ii --> V7 in the exchange from Dorian to Mixolydian.
You get certain order of pitches and sound given strange and funny names and we use them to define style. Look how the majority of music does cadencing on either the I, IV or V, and we don't say "they are stealing from each other."
However, it is up to each group how they will perform a piece. ^_^
@TheInspirationExpert PS, I'm not sending you anything weird, the reason I have to send it as a private message is that Youtube won't let me post a link in a comment. I sent you a video of Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the West Side Story Symphonic Dances.
