Propoganda from an exploiter of captive marine mammals. If they are so proud why don't they publish the lifespans of their marine mammals. Why don't they publish the survival rates of captive born marine mammals. Sea World is crying crocodile tears here. Hurray to Ric, who has exposed the evil side of dolphin drive kills and captivity. If Sea World were so appalled by drive kills, why don't they lobby for the ouster of Asian dolphinariums from IMATA??????? Hmmm.
WELL I LIKE O'BERRY HE MAY NOT BE PERFECT OR A 100% BUT 2 HIP HIPPS FOR O'BERRY AND WHALE WARS FOR SHEDING LIGHT ON THOSE DAMN PEOPLES BARBERCK PATRICES . AND WE DO TAKE TO MUCH FROM THE OCEAN ONE DAY REAL SOON NOTHING WILL BE LEFT ...... WE HUMAN BEING CAN'T JUST KEEP STRIP MINEING THIS PLANET WE LIVE ON.... ITS GONNA COME TO END AND MOST LIKELY IN THE VARY NEAR FUTURE
@2teamswitzerland Why not, and why stop at cetaceans? Why not close all zoos? I think that there should be some in captivity, revenue helps fund research, people won't give to something that they can't get gratification back. Why should I not eat dolphin meat? Zoos are needed to educate laypeople, to research and preserve animals.
@UltraEpicLoser First off some zoos are help with preserving the endangered and what not, but MOST do not. They keep they're animals for human entertainment and breed them into captivity when they are wild animals. Secondly, what do you mean by gratification? And research what? Thirdly, you should not eat dolphin meat because dolphin meat has so much mercury in it, it is deadly. Dolphin meat contains up to 19.2ppm of mercury. This is 48 times higher than the maximum advisory level of 0.4ppm.
@2teamswitzerland Yes, I do agree that Dolphin meat is not fit for human consumption because of the high mercury levels, but if those levels were acceptable, should we eat them? By gratification, I do mean either entertainment, or that warm fuzzy feeling. Most people wont give money to charity without some sort of connection, either a shock documentary or seeing the animal. Zoos therefore generate more constant revenue than shock drama/documentaries.
Those of you not willing to believe that there are indeed statistics to back up the claim that SeaWorld, and literally all North American parks do NOT obtain their animals from the Japanese drive hunts need to check online captive cetacean databases such as phinventory. You will quickly find that the claims made in this video are factual. The United States hasnt obtained a dolphin from the wild since 1989, and the ones they at one time captured were never from Japan, they were generallyFloridian
I just watched this video and I do somewhat see what the author is getting at however, his/her FACTS are not in order either. Here is one document form 2009 proving that the US imports cetaceans from Japan. There are more...
Sea World, after confirming in this 2 part film that The Cove misinforms people about you, will you please make a video about the dolphin slaughter yourself and tell people how they can REALLY help? Otherwise I think it's just a moot point, and posting just these videos makes it come off like you're just trying desperately to protect your business. When I know that all SW employees do care about this issue.
I'm stating it as sea world does it, once one dies they'll have a pretend pitty party and be doing shows the same damn day. Then they'll have another orca/dolphin do the work to the moment it dies. Sea world is not helping these animals, there's absolutely nothing educational about a sea world show, all it does is show people all the wrong things to do with these animals in the wild.
The record? The record is that 3 orcas have died just this year(4 if you count a fetus) and an average of 1 orca dies each year at sea world. This animals live as long as humans, yet they drop like flies and are readily replaced.
Regardless of how the data is massaged into forming a perspective to support a point about dolphins, it doesn't change the fact that they are intelligent, self aware citizens of the ocean and we have no right to take their lives or their freedom for our own selfish and savagely cruel purposes. I wouldn't go to an aquarium to see them caged anyway for the same reason I do not support visiting zoos.
Noodles, Who told you it was illegal in the U.S.? Smaller Cetaceans are NOT protected any where. I know your pretty keen and zealous but stop and read the MMPA today! The AZA are not the governing body.
Thank you, whoever, for making this video! When I first saw The Cove, I was incredibly disturbed by the footage about marine life parks, too. And i know first-hand that places like SeaWorld and other marine life parks do NOT take wild dolphins anymore (I won't say they never did, that's absurd, where did the dolphins come from after all). I know that places like sea world have incredibly successful breeding programs, and actually cooperate with other marine life parks and aquariums to keep t
Is a dolphin born in captivity happier then one forced into the slave trade? It's like saying a child born into slavery is happy with being a slave. I've heard that argument that because the dolphins eat and breed that means they're happy, but African American slaves did the exact same thing, and they did not enjoy captivity at all.
@sorryimsogreat2 So your saying that dogs , cats, horses and all domesticated animals are unhappy. because the last time I checked they where all wild at one time. I do hope that you have no pets and that you never did because that would make you no different then the people you are talking about. The issue should be that the slaughter needs to stop the zoos and parks have nothing to do with it end of story.
You state a clear difference between these animals when you say "domesticated", cetaceans are not, nor can they be. A fish is not the same as a cetacean, it is not as intelligent, and in captivity I don't need to give my pet ulcer medicine and anti depressants frequently to keep it alive. This park has taken multiple dolphins from taiji in the past, and many countries in other parts of the world still do, the captive dolphin industry supports this in the end, it's on record
@sorryimsogreat2 Hold on, dogs and cats where not always domesticated. We humans made them that way. And How many people have their pets on meds to keep them alive and healthly all if they are getting their shots by Law. Multiple meaning two. you said it right many other countries still do. They are the facilities that should be under attack not the one that stopped all ties with Japan years ago.
Dogs came to man, that's what they did. You don't feed your cat drugs frequently to keep it from being crazy, you get it shots most of the time because inbreeding has made their immunity so damn weak.
Sea World in many ways is still supporting the drives stronger then anyone else, you know why? It's because they're fabulously rich, they are the bad example to the rest of the world, and people want that wealth.
Sea World California applied for a permit January 4th, 2010 to import pilot whales from Japan................Sea World is a group of propagandists and just morally criminal.
@sorryimsogreat2 Actually, if you found out a little bit more about this, that Pilot Whale was rescued by a Japanese dolphin park, and, after it is back to full half they are legally exporting it to SeaWorld so it can be happier with more of its own kind.
I believe that's what Japan and sea world are reporting, I don't believe that is actually the case, because dolphin parks in Japan are THEE WORST abusers of cetaceans, they personally meet the dolphins they want to take. There is no interest in the animals welfare in this transaction what so ever. PS 3 orcas dead this year along, four if you count the still born of the mother that died.
@sorryimsogreat2 I have no doubt that Japan ARE the worst abusers. But, if the whale is not in the ocean, surely you would be happier if it was in SeaWorld with literally the best care in the world and with more of it's own kind than alone in Japan? I'm not trying the say that captivity is better than the ocean, but if is, then surely SeaWorld is the best place to be? And I'm pretty sure the animal's welfare IS involved, even if SeaWorld are the only ones bothered about it.
In Taiji it has been recently observed that they have slightly adopted the Faroese technique of killing and capturing dolphins by driving them to the shore, and forcibly beaching them, this was recently observed with Risso's and pilot whales. The best thing would be reintroduction to the wild, because this animal was from it and perfectly suited to go straight back.
@sorryimsogreat2 I agree it would be better in the wild! But, if they aren't going to release it, surely you would rather it be with more of its kind and with world-class care than on its own in Japan?
3 orcas have died just this year(four if you count a fetus) and 1 trainer. Sea World on average has 1 orca die a year, orcas are capable of living to 80-90 years, but only in the wild. Orcas in captivity don't even get close to the average in the wild.
@sorryimsogreat2 Taima and calf died in birthing complications, which could happen in the wild and can't be blamed on SeaWorld. We're still waiting for necropsy results for Kalina and Sumar, to find out how they died and if captivity is to blame. What I meant was can you prove the animals are unhappy or badly treated? I'm opposed to captiviy if it's clear the animals are unhappy e.g circuses, but if the animals are obviously happy then I see no reason why captivity is bad.
@sorryimsogreat2 If they were unhappy they wouldn't eat well, interact with each other, learn new things or look as healthy as they do. As for the teeth thing, I've seen hundreds of pictures of they whales and dolphins at SeaWorld, and this hasn't happened to any of them that I've noticed. They have vets that keep their teeth healthy and act as their sort of dentists . I also believe if they were unhappy, they would refuse to to perform or learn. And that suicide thing is ridiculous.
I find that such garbage that if they weren't happy they wouldn't eat, attempt to socialize, and breed(fake and in a bag). Prisoners all over the world do these things but they are NOT HAPPY, slaves have done this for thousands of years, but SLAVES ARE NOT HAPPY! Surviving and being happy are very very different things. They can't refuse to perform, because they're hungry, and they want food, they don't want to be with out their family, fear and hunger is their motive.
@sorryimsogreat2 Of course they can refuse to perform! In fact, they sometimes do. They are fed regardless, and food isn't usually used as a reward apart from in the shows because, according to Laura Surovik (head trainer), the whales respond more to love and affection from the trainers anyway. I don't believe you can, in any way, force a whale as big as a schoolbus to perform if it doesn't want to.
What happens when they refuse to perform? They're separated from their families and not fed, so they feel no victory or accomplishment by this, just like a slave, it's the exact same thing. I've viewed the orca tanks, dall's porpoise tanks, and bottlenose dolphin tanks a multitude of times, they for the most part are completely barren of anything natural. Elephants perform when the clearly don't want to, so do lions, you see videos of them struggling all the time.
@sorryimsogreat2 No, actually, you're wrong for a third time. They are fed as much as all the other whales, regardless of whether they perform or not. If they don't perform, they stay in the back pool with another whale as they don't use all the whales every time. They always get the choice of performing and getting a reward whether it be fish, a rub down, even ice, or to not perform. I could give you plenty of pictures of the tanks actually, if you want proof.
These animals are being forced, because other then performing, it's isolation, it's like a time out for kids, but this time out box is your home. I've seen the tanks, you're not going to offer me anything new, I've seen the small tanks for a long period of my life, I use to visit sea world frequently, but I'm realizing like many people now that they don't teach you a damn thing. I can send you pictures of lone whales being isolated, the news even reports on it.
@sorryimsogreat2 They are not isolated! Not all of the whales perform in every show so they wouldn't be alone anyway. The whale tanks are 7 MILLION GALLONS in volume, and with this size by law they would be allowed to hold up to 20 orcas there. I doubt they would, however. And I can show you a really good picture of under the water in the dolphin pool, I found it last night. It's on facebook so you need to have facebook to see it.
There are literally pictures all over the web of it, I have video on my channel of this happening. Congress is currently reviewing the legality of parks like sea world. Also a 7 million gallon tank really isn't that much in proportion to the animal, and like I said congress is reviewing the legality of these parks, and you know 20 is completely absurd, as much as I think 1 in that small of an area is not enough.
@sorryimsogreat2 20 is absurd, of course I know. I was just showing that compared to what they could keep, 7 is actually not many orcas at all. I can send the link to an interview with trainer Laura Surovik, who is head trainer, a devout christian and an absolutley lovely woman. She explains how she feels about the whole captivity debate and why she believes "with all her heart" that the whales are happy, healthy and "like family to her", not stressed and cramped and working like slaves.
@missnoodles996 I don't doubt that the trainers love the animals, but I can supply you many videos of people who love animals, but keep them in deplorable conditions, a good example that there are literally thousands of on youtube are people who put fish in tanks which are to small and it causes stunting in the animal, agitation, and premature death.
I have a video on my account, your welcome to see it.
@sorryimsogreat2 For example, Miama Seaquarium. Hundreds of SeaWorld fans are aginst it, and Lolita is in a pool which even park officials have said is "maybe a little small." I am against miami seaquarium myself. I don't think, though, that the conditions at SeaWorld are deplorable. Shamu stadium is the biggest whale pool in the world and the water is continually chilled and filtered. Extensions to the whale pools are also planned.
There are many problems here, such as, no matter how big they make these pools they still wont be big enough to represent a wild habitat, these enclosures will always stifle the cetaceans use of sonar. Also problems with dolphinariums are that the chlorine which they put in the pools will cause serious skin irritation, these animals keep breaking off their teeth, and they have nothing to do.
The fact that so many orcas die here should be enough for you to question this.
@sorryimsogreat2 Nothing is as good as the sea. I agree that the wild would be better. But if they're not in the wild, SeaWorld treats them extremely well and the trainers look after them with love. The water at SeaWorld is not chlorinated, it is salt water.
The further problem is, sea world in the fashion they conduct business, it's not educational or necessary, and even worse they promote their business to the rest of the world, people see them and they see easy money, and this is where the 6x6 swimming pools that have 3 dolphins in it come from, sea world was the inspiration for most of the worlds dolphinariums.
@sorryimsogreat2 SeaWorld also work to close down these aquariums, you forgot to mention that. They also donate millions every year to conservation and rehabilitation. Take the case of JJ the grey whale, for example. What better an example to set, in my opinion.
For example of sea world not doing a dang thing, they were one of the first people to know what was going on in Taiji, and they didn't stop buying from their until they weren't allowed to. Now they say they were always against them, yet did nothing to inform the public about this. They had a position 10x's as powerful to document and expose what went on then OPS did, yet they did nothing, but tried to brush it under the rug.
@sorryimsogreat2 They did buy dolphins in the past, but 30 years ago, and not from Japan. I didn't know about those false killer whales though, but that was in the early 90s and was certainly not recent. I know I would still support SeaWorld if it was!
They did buy from Japan, iki island as a matter of fact, one of the worst places in history for dolphins. Sea World didn't stop because of a moral epiphany as they've stated in recent videos, it's because they were forced to stop by demands of environmentalists pressuring the government.
Captivity as a whole isn't bad, captivity of cetaceans is bad, captivity of elephants in general is bad(not always), captivity of an endangered species is something I agree with, captivity that educates the public is good, but that isn't sea world.
Elephants are typically abused by very small areas to be in and are highly intelligent and deserve better, but for cetaceans it's even worse, they get far less space for what they travel and they have nothing in their tank that is natural or fun, at sea world they try and associate trainers with play and only allow them toys at that time, elephants have some stimulus on their own, but cetaceans are deprived of this in a completely empty solid tank. NO sand even.
@sorryimsogreat2 Wrong again. The tanks are not "empty and solid". If we were not on a youtube comment thread, I could send you dozens of pictures proving that they actually have real sea kelp as enrichment, amongst other things that keep them from getting bored and pools with real rock bottoms, like the sea. On a recent trip to Discovery Cove we had to watch out when walking through the water for rocks under our feet. Training the animals is just another way of enriching the daily lives.
Also these animals not during shows are not allowed to be touched anymore due to the death of a trainer, but you and me both know that if these shows continue that another trainer will die very soon. And next year at least 1 orca will die as is the average mortality rate for sea world, but this year has been particularly cruel, 1 trainer, 3 orcas, and a fetus. Not to mention all the horrified audience.
@sorryimsogreat2 Those trainers choose to work with whales, they know the risks. I expect that they know a lot more about the whales' personalities than we do, and don't you think that if they thought they were in danger after the death of a close friend or colleage then they would say so?
Do the children coming to these parks know the risk? Do they know they may watch someone get mangled and die before their eyes? I don't think they do. Well if they do know the whales personalities better then I they sure show a terrible track record of acting accordingly. Do you know how many orcas have died at sea worlds? Not to mention trainers and serious injuries, hell, if this was a roller coaster park it would have been shut down a long time ago with that record.
@sorryimsogreat2 Whoops, I voted this comment up accidentally. Sorry! Anyway, I'm sure that children don't know the risk. As you pointed out, the risk is no different to that of any other park. Accidents may happen anywhere you go. In a car, on a plane. They don't ban people from going in cars even though there are thousands of accidents a day do they? Of course I know how many Orcas have died, but I can show you a list of all the missing orcas in the wild, and that list aint too good either.
Like I said, if Sea World was a roller coaster park, they would have been shut down a long time ago with their record of fatalities. A lot of what happens are not accidents, do you think Tilikum liked that trainer? HELL NO, he wanted to kill her in a slow excruciating manner, he hates being there and he wanted her to suffer(I'm not calling the trainer a bad person), because if this was a feeding response he would have eaten her in two bites.
@sorryimsogreat2 He didn't kill her on purpose, at least me, most of the SeaWorld fans and the trainers don't think so. They aren't allowed in the water with Tilikum anyway, and if he's wanted to play with her then he wouldn't have known his own strength. The trainers have also described him as very possesive, wheich explain why he wouldn't let go of her. You have no right to say that Tilikum hates being where he is. Just because he is in captivity, it doesn't mean it was deliberate.
It's the 3rd time he's done this...........he knows exactly what he's doing, these are highly intelligent animals which are on par with people, he knew what he was doing, he grabbed her by the pony tail, took her to the bottom then grabbed her with his teeth and shook her......this is not play behavior, this isn't even predatory behavior. If a person were to kill 3 people it'd be safe to say he hated the individuals he killed right?
@sorryimsogreat2 One man's cause of death was hypothermia, not being attacked by Tilly. Climbing into a whale tank wasn't the cleverest thing to do to start with. The other death involved two other orcas. They were presumably playing. As I have said, his possesiveness could just be the cause. Maybe he did do it deliberately, we'll never know. But I know that Dawn didn't hate him, and still wouldn't now
Hypothermia was not concluded, he was found dead in the tank and believed drowned. Another fact is, there is a huge ineptitude to have this orca in position where it is allowed to do this, this is truly assisted man slaughter by sea world, they know better. I know she didn't hate him, but there's plenty of people for example that I don't hate, but that I know hate me.
@sorryimsogreat2 She was actually in the water and not supposed to have been. They were not supposed to get too close to Tilly, Dawn was one of few trainers who were even allowed to get close to him.
She was in the water, but who is there enforcing the rules? Where's the staff which makes sure that the trainers follow the rules? Sea World does nothing to shut down other dolphinariums, they say "well that's not our park", but truly don't do a dang thing. Working with injured wild life is good, but it takes a life time of good deeds to gain a persons trust, and only one bad one to lose it. A good deed doesn't buy a bad deed. These dolphins all die prematurely, you know this.
@sorryimsogreat2 Ok then, maybe they could do more. The health and safety executives should have been watching over this. The woman in question is currently attempting to sue SeaWorld. And failing miserably.
As a matter of OPINION, I do not agree with Japan’s philosophy of hunting whales and dolphins, and I fear they will indeed hunt small cetaceans in their waters to the brink of extinction if not beyond.
As a matter of FACT, placing the blame for the Japanese dolphin kills on zoos and aquariums is absurd.
easy one to point out is that this little liar speaking states that dolphin shows did not contribute to the largest slaughter of dolphins in the world, then fails to tell people that the kills INCREASED as the dolphin industry has, that's an easy lie to point out.
Then this liar states that pointing to the us as a beneficiary (by sea world) for the Taiji hunt is a lie, when in fact dolphins were bought in 1989, and likely reproduced, that that info is not available.
@sorryimsogreat2 - “little liar” here. My video you are commenting on has been thoroughly researched and each point can be verified as fact in the scientific literature and public record. Calling something a “lie” requires evidence. Manufacturing nonsensical claims as rebuttal only requires a lack of intelligence.
The total number of small cetaceans killed has decreased since a peak of 40,000 in 1988. The overwhelming majority of the species hunted are not used in captive display.
Well obviously the majority of cetaceans hunted are not used for display, because the demand isn't that high, and you don't sell what could be considered a "poor product", it's been public knowledge and stated by O'barry that a very small number of the best looking ones are taken and sold. Flipper which sparked the dolphin industry started in 1964, and records reflecting on the solomon islands for instance showed a dramatic increased in 1966.
The decrease in the volume hunted is also due to an IWC resolution that lowered it(which I find it odd you did not mention). I find it very odd that you bring up such a dramatic increase at all considering this increase took place AFTER THE DOLPHIN INDUSTRY BOOMED! It's completely counter productive for a person like yourself to mention it.
@sorryimsogreat2 - Do you really find it odd that I would not include information that is not true? Is this how these comment forums work? Allow me to put this on the chalkboard for you:
1. The IWC does not regulate small cetaceans.
2. The IWC banned commercial whaling in 1986.
3. In response, Japan tripled its take of small cetaceans in 1987.
4. Japan quadrupled its take in 1988.
5. Realizing these numbers were not sustainable, Japan capped their own quota to 18,000 by 1992.
"In 1989 the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), which included eminent Japanese small cetacean specialists, expressed grave concern over the sudden and dramatic increase in catches of Dall’s porpoise, which had reached over 40,000 in 1988. The Scientific Committee called for an immediate reduction in catches, concluding that the level of exploitation was “clearly unsustainable”. Continued
" Following Japan’s failure to heed this advice, the IWC passed a Resolution in 1990, the first IWC resolution ever on a small cetacean species, calling on the Government of Japan to reduce catches to at least pre-1986 (around 10,000) levels as soon as possible, and noting that even these may have been too high."
@sorryimsogreat2 - The argument that aquariums are the foundation of hunts has no evidence to support it. The first dolphin sold alive from the Solomon Islands was in 2003; not 1966. In order for you to be credible, you must check the accuracy of your statements before posting them.
I know you do the bare minimum amount of research but please, don't try and trick those of us who actually do our homework, it'd be nice enough if you respected our intelligence to not take us as fools and make such a poor attempt of trickery. Yes, the solomon islands has started it's trade recently and has started increasing it's catch, I do not see you're point (if there is one) at all.
@sorryimsogreat2 - You speak of trickery? Why did you not complete the quote from your source? Perhaps because it would reveal the fact that the IWC has no authority over small cetaceans – and Japan blatantly defies the resolutions.
Trickery by me? Do you expect me to post the entire article? What surprises me is that you fail to see the initial resolution did lower the catch from 40,000 to 17,000(which is still bad but MUCH less), then you're statement that IWC has no power, is obviously a fallacy.
“[ Although the catch was initially reduced, a quota for 17,700 porpoises was then set by the Japanese Fisheries Agency in 1993 and catches have remained around that level ever since. The IWC Scientific Committee has repeatedly expressed “extreme concern” over the unsustainability of the hunt, and the IWC has passed two subsequent resolutions, most recently in 2001 urging Japan . . .]" Continued Above
What the cove was about was the slaughter of dolphins, and how it's involved in the captive dolphin Industry, you've fruitlessly tried to lead people to think that 40,000 porpoises was what O'barry was talking about, but he was not, he was talking about Dolphins, you know this, and I know this, so just back down, you can't trick someone who knows more then you do.
Review the postings. I stated: “The total number of small cetaceans killed has decreased since a peak of 40,000 in 1988.” (Nowhere did I attribute this figure to Ric O’Barry.) We then embarked on an extended debate as to Japan’s interpretation of the IWC’s authority. Now you accuse me of misleading people about O’Barry’s comments?
The Cove chose to include porpoise figures together with dolphins in their film and listed on-screen a combined total of 23,000, (even though the actual number for that year was + 13,000 for all small cetaceans). It was their choice to include porpoises in the data set – not mine.
The 23,000 figure does not reflect on porpoises, this is what nearly ever news outlet will state. Porpoises comprise on their own about 17,000 animals slaughter. You're choice was to misrepresent fact and say that 40,000 dolphins were killed in 1988, yet it was Dal's porpoises(which I'm sure you knew)
Although the sale of live dolphins is lucrative for the fishermen of Taiji, it clearly cannot be the driving motivation for the vast majority of other fishermen of the nation who do not participate in live capture. Even if we scale down the statistics to include dolphin species alone. Live captures still only account for 5% of the national catch.
There are many industries that will amass a large amount of a certain object, to only later get rid of most of it and save the quality product for sale, that is what is happening in this situation, they find many, find the rare quality they want, and have fun with the rest(by murder).
Sea World California applied for a permit January 4th, 2010 to get pilot whales FROM JAPAN, they are still trying to get dolphins from Japan even though they condemn the dolphin slaughter, what hypocrites.
@sorryimsogreat2 - Also, the two (and only) bottlenose dolphins transfered from Japan to the U.S. did not go to Sea World. The lone pseudorca in the U.S. is captive born and resides at Sea World in Orlando.
Another reason for the decline in catches is simple, there are less. IUCNredlist believes that the Pseudorca is in possible decline, there's a believed possible decline for pilot whales, same with spinner dolphins, same with indo pacific bottlenose. There has also been a local extinction in one of the main hunt areas Iki Island of their dolphins. The lone pseudorca is born in the US, but who were it's parents? Possible breed program from dolphins taken from Taiji?
How incompetent are you? Seals are a comparison to the current situation, it is in no way changing topics. There are no facts in this video, it is all slanderous propaganda. They will say "o'barry said this, but what he really meant was this", it's completely manipulative.
You are full of crap. Sea world has admitted TO CONGRESS that in 1989 they bought multiple cetaceans FROM TAIJI, not just Japan, TAIJI, sea world knew before anyone(other then the murderers) what was going on in Taiji, yet they didn't educate anyone, nor show any opposition, until the spot light was on them and they had to defend themselves. Sea world is full of shit. They'd be great politicians.
This video is such garbage. I'll tell you Inuits hunted harp seals before the European(now Canadians) showed up, but that doesn't mean that the Inuits hunted them in the hundred of thousands, same here, the Japanese didn't hunt the dolphins in the thousands, it started with just two people, and it never really got that large, until the dolphin trade started, and that increased the catch, and effectively caused the largest slaughter of cetaceans in the world.
Sea World sucks, they've shown it's not about the animals, it's about the money. Hell, I contacted sea world and they told me that they were against the hunt in Taiji, but having bought some of their first animals from Taiji why didn't they make anyone aware of this? Maybe because it would be self incriminating?
@pyroman1000k Dude your right!!! Dude you have no idea what your talking about...look at the account Sea World made this video!! Of course they are going to lie about this sorta stuff. All they care about is the money. They abuse those poor dolphins that DO GET IMPORTED from taiji!!! Its just sickening to see what they do to those animals... Animal Abusers...Mammal Abusers...People Abusers!

Seaworld, u truly have shown us that if u give someone enough rope they will hang themselves. Thanks for showing ur true colors. As for my extended family and myself and anyone else i can tell, as long as i have a breath in my body we will NEVER SUPPORT YOU!!!!
This is such a stupid argument. Stop over-fishing the oceans and you won't have to try to keep things in balance by killing off predators of the fish you seek. This is all a problem WE created. The dolphins aren't pests, they are in their rightful position within the food chain. "Pest Control"? Give me a break.
This is just another propaganda act by SEAWORLD. You disgust me SEAWORLD!
You are just taking words out of context for tourism $. Japan continues to cover up the fact they want to make money from anything due to overfishing & sucking the enviroment around them dry.
Why shouldn't people feel guilty of this slaughter?! Show us the way you get your dolphins?! Make your own Documentary & then ask me if I would believe it! Are u going to put the fact of how highly stressed these animals are!
@virtualannie The data does not lie. Seaworld gets none of their dolphins from Japan, unless you're suggesting NOAA is in on the conspiracy. Let's think logically rather than emotionally: Why in the world would US aquariums import Japanese-caught specimens when bottlenose distribution is global? Stop the hype and make factual-based arguments.
WOW!!! Just when I didn't think SeaWorld could stoop any lower. Everyone that works at SeaWorld and whoever created this video, should be ashamed of themselves. First, a trainer dies, and SeaWorld tries to cover it's ass so they don't get sued. Now they try to make a cheesy video to discredit Ric O'Barry. It is not hard to tell that SeaWorld and it's associates do not care about the animals or the people working for them. They only care about the money!!! BOYCOTT SEAWORLD!!
1) Why do you sea world keep pretending that you did not help get Taiji started? You bought the dolphins in recent time, but talk later as if you were never a beneficiary. It's simply misleading. The cove or O'barry never stated, "dolphins are being shipped here every year", but it appears you attempt to portray him as stating such.
2) Then Stiller does not say by not supporting this he can save dolphins in Japan, but everyone knows that dolphin slave labor causes them drastically lower lives
@sorryimsogreat2 WOW you really dont have a clue. Japan has been doing this way before your grandfather was even born. Let alone Sea World.I can't what to read your post when the truth about O'Barry comes out. Lets see what you have to say then.
Japan has been killing dolphins, as the same they had been killing whales. But they were not killing thousands, and even at the time due to emperor Temmu there was a near vegan law instated, which put many of these slaughters in violation of emperor law, which kept them on a small scale for those 400 years(the law was in affect for 1200 years up until emperor Meiji). During the captivity industry the numbers went up(something this video failed to acknowledge).
The fact that in this video they call O'barry a manipulator, while in their video taking his words and trying to state what they "really" mean, is just laughable. Sea World(or possibly just the creator of this video, but I'd say sea world) is a bunch of hypocrites.
Various scientists to have researched Dolphin behaviour have proposed that their unusually high intelligence compared to other animals means that dolphins should be seen as non-human persons that should have their own specific rights, and that it is morally unacceptable to keep them captive for entertainment purposes, or to kill them; either intentionally for consumption or as by-catch.
dolphins shouldn't be in captivity nor should any other animal, and any person who says other wise is ignorant. they're ignorant because ANIMALS BELONG IN THE WILD plain and simple, not just doliphins. O'barry is just focusing on dolphins because thousands being slaughtered for no reason so YOU can have your precious seaworld and watch these poor animals do flips for your enjoyment. i'm not trying to guilt anyone but these are the facts and this is the truth of what's happening.
@Hyak44 i see what your saying, but my point is we as people shouldn't be capturing ANY animals from their homes or families. How'd you like it if you were with your family one day and all of a sudden idk... some aliens took you away and put you into a cage or exhibit? i know i wouldn't appreciate it. ( oh. and thank you for not making your response all immature and staring one of those stupid youtube arguments)
@omgevaiskoolio I would get used to it after a while like all living things do,but really,capturing thould be reduced to only for saving lives of those who are stuggling to live proper lives in the wild.
((And of course,I try to be as mature as possible,childish arguments on youtube are what scare many well informed people from using the comment system.))
@Hyak44 i see your point but it's been proven that the capturing process is extremely stressful and many animals die in the process. and yeah you would get used to it but wouldn't you still miss your home and family. when animals are captured they dont just forget about their previous lives( well unless born in captivity, which is a different story)
@omgevaiskoolio Of course it's stressfull,especially if done improperly,and deaths can happen,especially when done incorectly,for example,during the first captures of killer whales in washington,deaths where more common than when they moved on to Iceland.And of course,while the captured animals may remember some things and if the capture was badly done will probably carry emotional scars but,when they're taken at such a young age it's really hard to say,usually theyre just newly weaned
@omgevaiskoolio Of course when i say emotional scars I mean the old inexperienced captures in the early 60s and those that happen at the same time as 'hunts'.such animals could end up scared of certain items like sharp metal objects,of boat like objects in thier pools and so on,but as said beore,they are so young when taken,they may not even know why they're scared of those things.
@Hyak44 they might but we dont know that so why not just leave them were they belong and study them in their natural habitat? we dont need to have them in amusement parks because thats not educating anyone, it's only teaching younger generations that it's okay to capture,train,and watch animals for human amusement. and the excuse is that "oh. we're showing how smart they are, to be trained" it's such garbage and it's selfish.
@omgevaiskoolio Sure,leave the wild animals in the wild,we dont need large scale captures anymore,however,like it or not zoos and aquariums are very educational,anone who learns nothing new after a visit is both deaf and blind.Many zoos and aquariums have signs up about the animals,have educators,you can watch the animals and see how they interact with eachother and there is simply no replacement in my mind or those of many others for seeing an animal up close and personal.
@omgevaiskoolio And of course,there is nothing wrong with amusement,you learn more from a teacher who enjoys thier job and is animated than you do from a teacher who gives a boring,dry feeling lecture,because that does'nt engage you.
Many people love whales but could care less about fish, when you start to learn about them,really learn about them.we also become more interested in the issues that are going on with thier wild cousins along with things like the fish they rely on for food.
@Hyak44 but what im saying is we care about learning about the animals but the general public only go see animals for personal amusement not because they care about the animals. ask anyone random person why they go to a whale/dolphin/or any other animal show and they'll tell you because they do tricks and it's cool to watch. which it is but they dont belong in captivity plain and simple.
@omgevaiskoolio It depends where you go and on how centered on research and education a place is...Seaworld is a theme park first.but when it comes to whether or not they belong in captivity in general,well that's a complex answer so we will just have to agree to dissagree before we end up flooding this comment section.
I was hoping you guys would eventually post this video, makes me EXTREMELY happy. About time someone shoves it back into O'barrys face, he talks as if every dolphin in every single dolphinarium in the world has animals captured from Japan last night.....he's an idiot, no one should listen to him.
Thankyou for posting this. And well done for whoever put this together, its a very well thought-out and informative piece. I can only hope people will stop quoting the cove in anti-captivity arguments now that the facts have been presented.
Thank you for clearing this up, I watched the movie last night, and I was so confused! I was so sure that the dolphin weren't sent to the U.S. Thanks for this video, hopefully it will open up the eyes of people.
Hmmm.

Either way, seaworld, there should not be ANY cetaceans should not be kept in captivity.
2teamswitzerland 1 year ago
@2teamswitzerland Why not, and why stop at cetaceans? Why not close all zoos? I think that there should be some in captivity, revenue helps fund research, people won't give to something that they can't get gratification back. Why should I not eat dolphin meat? Zoos are needed to educate laypeople, to research and preserve animals.
UltraEpicLoser 7 months ago
@UltraEpicLoser First off some zoos are help with preserving the endangered and what not, but MOST do not. They keep they're animals for human entertainment and breed them into captivity when they are wild animals. Secondly, what do you mean by gratification? And research what? Thirdly, you should not eat dolphin meat because dolphin meat has so much mercury in it, it is deadly. Dolphin meat contains up to 19.2ppm of mercury. This is 48 times higher than the maximum advisory level of 0.4ppm.
2teamswitzerland 7 months ago
@2teamswitzerland Yes, I do agree that Dolphin meat is not fit for human consumption because of the high mercury levels, but if those levels were acceptable, should we eat them? By gratification, I do mean either entertainment, or that warm fuzzy feeling. Most people wont give money to charity without some sort of connection, either a shock documentary or seeing the animal. Zoos therefore generate more constant revenue than shock drama/documentaries.
UltraEpicLoser 7 months ago
Those of you not willing to believe that there are indeed statistics to back up the claim that SeaWorld, and literally all North American parks do NOT obtain their animals from the Japanese drive hunts need to check online captive cetacean databases such as phinventory. You will quickly find that the claims made in this video are factual. The United States hasnt obtained a dolphin from the wild since 1989, and the ones they at one time captured were never from Japan, they were generallyFloridian

The dolphin slaughter is terrible,
and
Cetaceans do not belong in captivity.

LightBlueFuture 1 year ago
@boodylover86
I'm stating it as sea world does it, once one dies they'll have a pretend pitty party and be doing shows the same damn day. Then they'll have another orca/dolphin do the work to the moment it dies. Sea world is not helping these animals, there's absolutely nothing educational about a sea world show, all it does is show people all the wrong things to do with these animals in the wild.
pyroman1000k 1 year ago
@boodylover86
The record? The record is that 3 orcas have died just this year(4 if you count a fetus) and an average of 1 orca dies each year at sea world. This animals live as long as humans, yet they drop like flies and are readily replaced.
pyroman1000k 1 year ago
Regardless of how the data is massaged into forming a perspective to support a point about dolphins, it doesn't change the fact that they are intelligent, self aware citizens of the ocean and we have no right to take their lives or their freedom for our own selfish and savagely cruel purposes. I wouldn't go to an aquarium to see them caged anyway for the same reason I do not support visiting zoos.
moxyphoto 1 year ago
Noodles, Who told you it was illegal in the U.S.? Smaller Cetaceans are NOT protected any where. I know your pretty keen and zealous but stop and read the MMPA today! The AZA are not the governing body.

Thank you, whoever, for making this video! When I first saw The Cove, I was incredibly disturbed by the footage about marine life parks, too. And i know first-hand that places like SeaWorld and other marine life parks do NOT take wild dolphins anymore (I won't say they never did, that's absurd, where did the dolphins come from after all). I know that places like sea world have incredibly successful breeding programs, and actually cooperate with other marine life parks and aquariums to keep t
snapeonaplane 1 year ago
@snapeonaplane
Is a dolphin born in captivity happier then one forced into the slave trade? It's like saying a child born into slavery is happy with being a slave. I've heard that argument that because the dolphins eat and breed that means they're happy, but African American slaves did the exact same thing, and they did not enjoy captivity at all.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 So your saying that dogs , cats, horses and all domesticated animals are unhappy. because the last time I checked they where all wild at one time. I do hope that you have no pets and that you never did because that would make you no different then the people you are talking about. The issue should be that the slaughter needs to stop the zoos and parks have nothing to do with it end of story.
mrmrwhatisthetruth 1 year ago
@mrmrwhatisthe
You state a clear difference between these animals when you say "domesticated", cetaceans are not, nor can they be. A fish is not the same as a cetacean, it is not as intelligent, and in captivity I don't need to give my pet ulcer medicine and anti depressants frequently to keep it alive. This park has taken multiple dolphins from taiji in the past, and many countries in other parts of the world still do, the captive dolphin industry supports this in the end, it's on record
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Hold on, dogs and cats where not always domesticated. We humans made them that way. And How many people have their pets on meds to keep them alive and healthly all if they are getting their shots by Law. Multiple meaning two. you said it right many other countries still do. They are the facilities that should be under attack not the one that stopped all ties with Japan years ago.
mrmrwhatisthetruth 1 year ago
@mrmrwhatisthetruth
Dogs came to man, that's what they did. You don't feed your cat drugs frequently to keep it from being crazy, you get it shots most of the time because inbreeding has made their immunity so damn weak.
Sea World in many ways is still supporting the drives stronger then anyone else, you know why? It's because they're fabulously rich, they are the bad example to the rest of the world, and people want that wealth.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@snapeonaplane
Sea World California applied for a permit January 4th, 2010 to import pilot whales from Japan................Sea World is a group of propagandists and just morally criminal.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Actually, if you found out a little bit more about this, that Pilot Whale was rescued by a Japanese dolphin park, and, after it is back to full half they are legally exporting it to SeaWorld so it can be happier with more of its own kind.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
I believe that's what Japan and sea world are reporting, I don't believe that is actually the case, because dolphin parks in Japan are THEE WORST abusers of cetaceans, they personally meet the dolphins they want to take. There is no interest in the animals welfare in this transaction what so ever. PS 3 orcas dead this year along, four if you count the still born of the mother that died.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 I have no doubt that Japan ARE the worst abusers. But, if the whale is not in the ocean, surely you would be happier if it was in SeaWorld with literally the best care in the world and with more of it's own kind than alone in Japan? I'm not trying the say that captivity is better than the ocean, but if is, then surely SeaWorld is the best place to be? And I'm pretty sure the animal's welfare IS involved, even if SeaWorld are the only ones bothered about it.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
In Taiji it has been recently observed that they have slightly adopted the Faroese technique of killing and capturing dolphins by driving them to the shore, and forcibly beaching them, this was recently observed with Risso's and pilot whales. The best thing would be reintroduction to the wild, because this animal was from it and perfectly suited to go straight back.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 I agree it would be better in the wild! But, if they aren't going to release it, surely you would rather it be with more of its kind and with world-class care than on its own in Japan?
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
I'm not much for compromise. A lesser of two evils is still evil.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 What proof do you have, if any, that SeaWorld is evil? I could prove the opposite, or at least give decent evidence.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
3 orcas have died just this year(four if you count a fetus) and 1 trainer. Sea World on average has 1 orca die a year, orcas are capable of living to 80-90 years, but only in the wild. Orcas in captivity don't even get close to the average in the wild.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Taima and calf died in birthing complications, which could happen in the wild and can't be blamed on SeaWorld. We're still waiting for necropsy results for Kalina and Sumar, to find out how they died and if captivity is to blame. What I meant was can you prove the animals are unhappy or badly treated? I'm opposed to captiviy if it's clear the animals are unhappy e.g circuses, but if the animals are obviously happy then I see no reason why captivity is bad.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
What I would consider proof of their unhappieness
1) Shorter lives in captivity(cetaceans are really the only animal that has this happen)
2) They're prone to attack in captivity(these "accidents" haven't or don't happen in the wild)
3) If you look at pictures of orcas you'll notice much of their front lower teeth are all broken and blackened at the root.
4) They will die due to "sudden complications" that were notice just hours earlier(sounds like suicide).
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 If they were unhappy they wouldn't eat well, interact with each other, learn new things or look as healthy as they do. As for the teeth thing, I've seen hundreds of pictures of they whales and dolphins at SeaWorld, and this hasn't happened to any of them that I've noticed. They have vets that keep their teeth healthy and act as their sort of dentists . I also believe if they were unhappy, they would refuse to to perform or learn. And that suicide thing is ridiculous.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
They can't refuse to perform, because they're hungry, and they want food, they don't want to be with out their family, fear and hunger is their motive.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Of course they can refuse to perform! In fact, they sometimes do. They are fed regardless, and food isn't usually used as a reward apart from in the shows because, according to Laura Surovik (head trainer), the whales respond more to love and affection from the trainers anyway. I don't believe you can, in any way, force a whale as big as a schoolbus to perform if it doesn't want to.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Elephants perform when the clearly don't want to, so do lions, you see videos of them struggling all the time.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 No, actually, you're wrong for a third time. They are fed as much as all the other whales, regardless of whether they perform or not. If they don't perform, they stay in the back pool with another whale as they don't use all the whales every time. They always get the choice of performing and getting a reward whether it be fish, a rub down, even ice, or to not perform. I could give you plenty of pictures of the tanks actually, if you want proof.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@
These animals are being forced, because other then performing, it's isolation, it's like a time out for kids, but this time out box is your home. I've seen the tanks, you're not going to offer me anything new, I've seen the small tanks for a long period of my life, I use to visit sea world frequently, but I'm realizing like many people now that they don't teach you a damn thing. I can send you pictures of lone whales being isolated, the news even reports on it.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 They are not isolated! Not all of the whales perform in every show so they wouldn't be alone anyway. The whale tanks are 7 MILLION GALLONS in volume, and with this size by law they would be allowed to hold up to 20 orcas there. I doubt they would, however. And I can show you a really good picture of under the water in the dolphin pool, I found it last night. It's on facebook so you need to have facebook to see it.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
There are literally pictures all over the web of it, I have video on my channel of this happening. Congress is currently reviewing the legality of parks like sea world. Also a 7 million gallon tank really isn't that much in proportion to the animal, and like I said congress is reviewing the legality of these parks, and you know 20 is completely absurd, as much as I think 1 in that small of an area is not enough.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 20 is absurd, of course I know. I was just showing that compared to what they could keep, 7 is actually not many orcas at all. I can send the link to an interview with trainer Laura Surovik, who is head trainer, a devout christian and an absolutley lovely woman. She explains how she feels about the whole captivity debate and why she believes "with all her heart" that the whales are happy, healthy and "like family to her", not stressed and cramped and working like slaves.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996 I don't doubt that the trainers love the animals, but I can supply you many videos of people who love animals, but keep them in deplorable conditions, a good example that there are literally thousands of on youtube are people who put fish in tanks which are to small and it causes stunting in the animal, agitation, and premature death.
I have a video on my account, your welcome to see it.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 For example, Miama Seaquarium. Hundreds of SeaWorld fans are aginst it, and Lolita is in a pool which even park officials have said is "maybe a little small." I am against miami seaquarium myself. I don't think, though, that the conditions at SeaWorld are deplorable. Shamu stadium is the biggest whale pool in the world and the water is continually chilled and filtered. Extensions to the whale pools are also planned.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
The fact that so many orcas die here should be enough for you to question this.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Nothing is as good as the sea. I agree that the wild would be better. But if they're not in the wild, SeaWorld treats them extremely well and the trainers look after them with love. The water at SeaWorld is not chlorinated, it is salt water.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
The further problem is, sea world in the fashion they conduct business, it's not educational or necessary, and even worse they promote their business to the rest of the world, people see them and they see easy money, and this is where the 6x6 swimming pools that have 3 dolphins in it come from, sea world was the inspiration for most of the worlds dolphinariums.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 SeaWorld also work to close down these aquariums, you forgot to mention that. They also donate millions every year to conservation and rehabilitation. Take the case of JJ the grey whale, for example. What better an example to set, in my opinion.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
For example of sea world not doing a dang thing, they were one of the first people to know what was going on in Taiji, and they didn't stop buying from their until they weren't allowed to. Now they say they were always against them, yet did nothing to inform the public about this. They had a position 10x's as powerful to document and expose what went on then OPS did, yet they did nothing, but tried to brush it under the rug.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 I don't think they even have brought dolphins from Taiji, the only place in the US to have bought from there is MSQ.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
It was MSQ who first did it, but sea world followed quick pursuit in buying from taiji.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Can you find any records of that?
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Savejapandolphins list it, and also when talking to congress sea world does not deny having bought dolphins in the past.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 They did buy dolphins in the past, but 30 years ago, and not from Japan. I didn't know about those false killer whales though, but that was in the early 90s and was certainly not recent. I know I would still support SeaWorld if it was!
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
They did buy from Japan, iki island as a matter of fact, one of the worst places in history for dolphins. Sea World didn't stop because of a moral epiphany as they've stated in recent videos, it's because they were forced to stop by demands of environmentalists pressuring the government.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 They stopped when they became a member of the AZA and when it became illegal in the US.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Oh, and can you send me these pictures please? I'd be interested to see.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Captivity as a whole isn't bad, captivity of cetaceans is bad, captivity of elephants in general is bad(not always), captivity of an endangered species is something I agree with, captivity that educates the public is good, but that isn't sea world.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Why elephants, cetaceans and SeaWorld in particular?
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
NO sand even.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Wrong again. The tanks are not "empty and solid". If we were not on a youtube comment thread, I could send you dozens of pictures proving that they actually have real sea kelp as enrichment, amongst other things that keep them from getting bored and pools with real rock bottoms, like the sea. On a recent trip to Discovery Cove we had to watch out when walking through the water for rocks under our feet. Training the animals is just another way of enriching the daily lives.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Not to mention all the horrified audience.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Those trainers choose to work with whales, they know the risks. I expect that they know a lot more about the whales' personalities than we do, and don't you think that if they thought they were in danger after the death of a close friend or colleage then they would say so?
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Do the children coming to these parks know the risk? Do they know they may watch someone get mangled and die before their eyes? I don't think they do. Well if they do know the whales personalities better then I they sure show a terrible track record of acting accordingly. Do you know how many orcas have died at sea worlds? Not to mention trainers and serious injuries, hell, if this was a roller coaster park it would have been shut down a long time ago with that record.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Whoops, I voted this comment up accidentally. Sorry! Anyway, I'm sure that children don't know the risk. As you pointed out, the risk is no different to that of any other park. Accidents may happen anywhere you go. In a car, on a plane. They don't ban people from going in cars even though there are thousands of accidents a day do they? Of course I know how many Orcas have died, but I can show you a list of all the missing orcas in the wild, and that list aint too good either.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Like I said, if Sea World was a roller coaster park, they would have been shut down a long time ago with their record of fatalities. A lot of what happens are not accidents, do you think Tilikum liked that trainer? HELL NO, he wanted to kill her in a slow excruciating manner, he hates being there and he wanted her to suffer(I'm not calling the trainer a bad person), because if this was a feeding response he would have eaten her in two bites.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 He didn't kill her on purpose, at least me, most of the SeaWorld fans and the trainers don't think so. They aren't allowed in the water with Tilikum anyway, and if he's wanted to play with her then he wouldn't have known his own strength. The trainers have also described him as very possesive, wheich explain why he wouldn't let go of her. You have no right to say that Tilikum hates being where he is. Just because he is in captivity, it doesn't mean it was deliberate.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
If a person were to kill 3 people it'd be safe to say he hated the individuals he killed right?
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 One man's cause of death was hypothermia, not being attacked by Tilly. Climbing into a whale tank wasn't the cleverest thing to do to start with. The other death involved two other orcas. They were presumably playing. As I have said, his possesiveness could just be the cause. Maybe he did do it deliberately, we'll never know. But I know that Dawn didn't hate him, and still wouldn't now
missnoodles996 1 year ago
@missnoodles996
Hypothermia was not concluded, he was found dead in the tank and believed drowned. Another fact is, there is a huge ineptitude to have this orca in position where it is allowed to do this, this is truly assisted man slaughter by sea world, they know better. I know she didn't hate him, but there's plenty of people for example that I don't hate, but that I know hate me.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 She was actually in the water and not supposed to have been. They were not supposed to get too close to Tilly, Dawn was one of few trainers who were even allowed to get close to him.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
She was in the water, but who is there enforcing the rules? Where's the staff which makes sure that the trainers follow the rules? Sea World does nothing to shut down other dolphinariums, they say "well that's not our park", but truly don't do a dang thing. Working with injured wild life is good, but it takes a life time of good deeds to gain a persons trust, and only one bad one to lose it. A good deed doesn't buy a bad deed. These dolphins all die prematurely, you know this.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 Ok then, maybe they could do more. The health and safety executives should have been watching over this. The woman in question is currently attempting to sue SeaWorld. And failing miserably.
missnoodles996 1 year ago
As a matter of OPINION, I do not agree with Japan’s philosophy of hunting whales and dolphins, and I fear they will indeed hunt small cetaceans in their waters to the brink of extinction if not beyond.
As a matter of FACT, placing the blame for the Japanese dolphin kills on zoos and aquariums is absurd.
This is my final post on this channel.

*SeaWorld...
What do U do when a dolphin gets 2 old or 2 bored 2 put on a show?*
LavanderBLONDE 1 year ago
@richorcaonyt
easy one to point out is that this little liar speaking states that dolphin shows did not contribute to the largest slaughter of dolphins in the world, then fails to tell people that the kills INCREASED as the dolphin industry has, that's an easy lie to point out.
Then this liar states that pointing to the us as a beneficiary (by sea world) for the Taiji hunt is a lie, when in fact dolphins were bought in 1989, and likely reproduced, that that info is not available.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - “little liar” here. My video you are commenting on has been thoroughly researched and each point can be verified as fact in the scientific literature and public record. Calling something a “lie” requires evidence. Manufacturing nonsensical claims as rebuttal only requires a lack of intelligence.
The total number of small cetaceans killed has decreased since a peak of 40,000 in 1988. The overwhelming majority of the species hunted are not used in captive display.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
Well obviously the majority of cetaceans hunted are not used for display, because the demand isn't that high, and you don't sell what could be considered a "poor product", it's been public knowledge and stated by O'barry that a very small number of the best looking ones are taken and sold. Flipper which sparked the dolphin industry started in 1964, and records reflecting on the solomon islands for instance showed a dramatic increased in 1966.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sachemoV
The decrease in the volume hunted is also due to an IWC resolution that lowered it(which I find it odd you did not mention). I find it very odd that you bring up such a dramatic increase at all considering this increase took place AFTER THE DOLPHIN INDUSTRY BOOMED! It's completely counter productive for a person like yourself to mention it.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - Do you really find it odd that I would not include information that is not true? Is this how these comment forums work? Allow me to put this on the chalkboard for you:
1. The IWC does not regulate small cetaceans.
2. The IWC banned commercial whaling in 1986.
3. In response, Japan tripled its take of small cetaceans in 1987.
4. Japan quadrupled its take in 1988.
5. Realizing these numbers were not sustainable, Japan capped their own quota to 18,000 by 1992.
sachemoV 1 year ago
"In 1989 the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), which included eminent Japanese small cetacean specialists, expressed grave concern over the sudden and dramatic increase in catches of Dall’s porpoise, which had reached over 40,000 in 1988. The Scientific Committee called for an immediate reduction in catches, concluding that the level of exploitation was “clearly unsustainable”. Continued
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sachemoV
" Following Japan’s failure to heed this advice, the IWC passed a Resolution in 1990, the first IWC resolution ever on a small cetacean species, calling on the Government of Japan to reduce catches to at least pre-1986 (around 10,000) levels as soon as possible, and noting that even these may have been too high."
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - The argument that aquariums are the foundation of hunts has no evidence to support it. The first dolphin sold alive from the Solomon Islands was in 2003; not 1966. In order for you to be credible, you must check the accuracy of your statements before posting them.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
I know you do the bare minimum amount of research but please, don't try and trick those of us who actually do our homework, it'd be nice enough if you respected our intelligence to not take us as fools and make such a poor attempt of trickery. Yes, the solomon islands has started it's trade recently and has started increasing it's catch, I do not see you're point (if there is one) at all.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - You speak of trickery? Why did you not complete the quote from your source? Perhaps because it would reveal the fact that the IWC has no authority over small cetaceans – and Japan blatantly defies the resolutions.
See Above
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
Trickery by me? Do you expect me to post the entire article? What surprises me is that you fail to see the initial resolution did lower the catch from 40,000 to 17,000(which is still bad but MUCH less), then you're statement that IWC has no power, is obviously a fallacy.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - Here’s what sorryimsogreat left out:
“[ Although the catch was initially reduced, a quota for 17,700 porpoises was then set by the Japanese Fisheries Agency in 1993 and catches have remained around that level ever since. The IWC Scientific Committee has repeatedly expressed “extreme concern” over the unsustainability of the hunt, and the IWC has passed two subsequent resolutions, most recently in 2001 urging Japan . . .]" Continued Above
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - @sorryimsogreat2 -
"[ . . . Japan to “halt the directed takes of Dall’s porpoises until a full assessment by the Scientific Committee has been carried out ”.]”
You brought up the Solomon Islands, not I.
Again, the argument that aquariums are the foundation of hunts has no evidence to support it.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - In summary:
1. Japanese kills did not increase due to a growth of aquariums.
2. The kills of small cetaceans increased because of an IWC ban on hunting large whales.
3. The IWC’s resolutions regarding small cetaceans have been ignored by Japan because they believe the IWC has no authority over small cetaceans.
4. Japan has been adjusting their own self-imposed quota annually, based on what they consider sustainable.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
1) Their kills did increase due to aquariums. The numbers have simply increased since the 1960's.
2) The hunt of Dall's porpoises increased due to the end of whaling, not dolphins. Porpoise and dolphin are recognized differently
3) Further resolutions after the initial one of the complain of the 40,000 was heard, but further ones have not been
4) They don't care if it's sustainable, they are interested in the short term money investment, and then getting rid of the creatures.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sachemoV
What the cove was about was the slaughter of dolphins, and how it's involved in the captive dolphin Industry, you've fruitlessly tried to lead people to think that 40,000 porpoises was what O'barry was talking about, but he was not, he was talking about Dolphins, you know this, and I know this, so just back down, you can't trick someone who knows more then you do.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2
Continued Above
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2
The Cove chose to include porpoise figures together with dolphins in their film and listed on-screen a combined total of 23,000, (even though the actual number for that year was + 13,000 for all small cetaceans). It was their choice to include porpoises in the data set – not mine.
Continued Above
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
The 23,000 figure does not reflect on porpoises, this is what nearly ever news outlet will state. Porpoises comprise on their own about 17,000 animals slaughter. You're choice was to misrepresent fact and say that 40,000 dolphins were killed in 1988, yet it was Dal's porpoises(which I'm sure you knew)
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2
Although the sale of live dolphins is lucrative for the fishermen of Taiji, it clearly cannot be the driving motivation for the vast majority of other fishermen of the nation who do not participate in live capture. Even if we scale down the statistics to include dolphin species alone. Live captures still only account for 5% of the national catch.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV
There are many industries that will amass a large amount of a certain object, to only later get rid of most of it and save the quality product for sale, that is what is happening in this situation, they find many, find the rare quality they want, and have fun with the rest(by murder).

sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
@sorryimsogreat2 - Also, the two (and only) bottlenose dolphins transfered from Japan to the U.S. did not go to Sea World. The lone pseudorca in the U.S. is captive born and resides at Sea World in Orlando.
sachemoV 1 year ago
@sachemoV

This video is such garbage. I'll tell you Inuits hunted harp seals before the European(now Canadians) showed up, but that doesn't mean that the Inuits hunted them in the hundred of thousands, same here, the Japanese didn't hunt the dolphins in the thousands, it started with just two people, and it never really got that large, until the dolphin trade started, and that increased the catch, and effectively caused the largest slaughter of cetaceans in the world.
sorryimsogreat2 1 year ago
Sea World sucks, they've shown it's not about the animals, it's about the money. Hell, I contacted sea world and they told me that they were against the hunt in Taiji, but having bought some of their first animals from Taiji why didn't they make anyone aware of this? This is such a stupid argument. Stop over-fishing the oceans and you won't have to try to keep things in balance by killing off predators of the fish you seek. This is all a problem WE created. The dolphins aren't pests, they are in their rightful position within the food chain. "Pest Control"? Give me a break.

@mrmrwhatisthetruth

@omgevaiskoolio Also,most cetaceans released have DIED ,releasing them would end in thier deaths.
the only truely successfull releases are of young male bottlenose dolhins who have only been in captivity for a few weeks.
Hyak44 1 year ago
@Hyak44 i see what your saying, but my point is we as people shouldn't be capturing ANY animals from their homes or families. How'd you like it if you were with your family one day and all of a sudden idk... some aliens took you away and put you into a cage or exhibit? i know i wouldn't appreciate it. ( oh. and thank you for not making your response all immature and staring one of those stupid youtube arguments)
omgevaiskoolio 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio I would get used to it after a while like all living things do,but really,capturing thould be reduced to only for saving lives of those who are stuggling to live proper lives in the wild.
((And of course,I try to be as mature as possible,childish arguments on youtube are what scare many well informed people from using the comment system.))
Hyak44 1 year ago
@Hyak44 i see your point but it's been proven that the capturing process is extremely stressful and many animals die in the process. and yeah you would get used to it but wouldn't you still miss your home and family. when animals are captured they dont just forget about their previous lives( well unless born in captivity, which is a different story)
omgevaiskoolio 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio Of course it's stressfull,especially if done improperly,and deaths can happen,especially when done incorectly,for example,during the first captures of killer whales in washington,deaths where more common than when they moved on to Iceland.And of course,while the captured animals may remember some things and if the capture was badly done will probably carry emotional scars but,when they're taken at such a young age it's really hard to say,usually theyre just newly weaned
Hyak44 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio Of course when i say emotional scars I mean the old inexperienced captures in the early 60s and those that happen at the same time as 'hunts'.such animals could end up scared of certain items like sharp metal objects,of boat like objects in thier pools and so on,but as said beore,they are so young when taken,they may not even know why they're scared of those things.
Hyak44 1 year ago
@Hyak44 they might but we dont know that so why not just leave them were they belong and study them in their natural habitat? we dont need to have them in amusement parks because thats not educating anyone, it's only teaching younger generations that it's okay to capture,train,and watch animals for human amusement. and the excuse is that "oh. we're showing how smart they are, to be trained" it's such garbage and it's selfish.
omgevaiskoolio 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio Sure,leave the wild animals in the wild,we dont need large scale captures anymore,however,like it or not zoos and aquariums are very educational,anone who learns nothing new after a visit is both deaf and blind.Many zoos and aquariums have signs up about the animals,have educators,you can watch the animals and see how they interact with eachother and there is simply no replacement in my mind or those of many others for seeing an animal up close and personal.
Hyak44 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio And of course,there is nothing wrong with amusement,you learn more from a teacher who enjoys thier job and is animated than you do from a teacher who gives a boring,dry feeling lecture,because that does'nt engage you.
Many people love whales but could care less about fish, when you start to learn about them,really learn about them.we also become more interested in the issues that are going on with thier wild cousins along with things like the fish they rely on for food.
Hyak44 1 year ago
@Hyak44 but what im saying is we care about learning about the animals but the general public only go see animals for personal amusement not because they care about the animals. ask anyone random person why they go to a whale/dolphin/or any other animal show and they'll tell you because they do tricks and it's cool to watch. which it is but they dont belong in captivity plain and simple.
omgevaiskoolio 1 year ago
@omgevaiskoolio It depends where you go and on how centered on research and education a place is...Seaworld is a theme park first.but when it comes to whether or not they belong in captivity in general,well that's a complex answer so we will just have to agree to dissagree before we end up flooding this comment section.
