  • I hear normally; I know nothing about ASL. All I know is that you have given the world a wonderful gift. Every nuanced gesture--from your meaningful facial expressions to your graceful hand signing--was so beautiful; so moving..

As an actor myself, the only change I would suggest, would be to maintain direct eye contact with the camera lens from beginning to end; don't let your eyes drift away (unless that's an ASL technique; what do I know :). Eye contact is very powerful dramatically.

  • Im just taking intro to American Sign Language now, but i loved this, didn't think I could love this song anymore.

  • Thank you so much for SLing a Flaming Lips song. :) I'm trying to learn some ASL via music videos because I learn faster with a tune involved. Could you possibly recommend to me some good channels for this? Keep up the good work!

  • I love your videos, and the fact that you look so happy and it's obvious that you're doing something you love. Keep it up!!!

  • Lisa!! This was really good--you really are improving so much! A

    And, about placement...

Hmmm... typically Time should always go first, but I often see WILL placed after the action that will happen, so I don't think it's really a mistake. I could be wrong, though.

  • Thanks so much!!

Yes, that's what I was going for, I think--the added, "will" for emphasis. Way to ask me why I'm doing things, Erika, it makes me go, "yeah, why did I do that?" :P

  • : ) Ha ha!

  • By the way, cool song!!! I enjoyed this a lot!

  • I thought your interpretation of "Do you realize that we're floating in space" was interesting--sort of split between a literal interpretation, and the conceptual. My own thought about that lyric was that it refers to us as human beings on planet earth (which is floating in space), because of the line later about the earth spinning around. And I'm wondering a bit about putting the time concept "someday" last instead of first. What was your reason for that? Nice work! : )

  • Right right right, I agree with you about the meaning of that line. I tried to kind of sort of kind of convey that, but not really or something. It's funny that that's the line that stuck out to you, because it's definitely the one that I had the most difficulty with.

As for "someday," I think that's just the ASL structure worksheets that have been pounded into my brain. Time-Object-Subject-Verb? Would you have put it last, and why?

  • Yes, that's been pounded into my brain as well! No, what I was asking about was the end of this line ... "everyone you know, someday, will die." Instead of ending with a verb, you ended with a time concept. So I was just curious about that. Is it for added emphasis?
