This recording show exactly why Joy Division was so very upset about the production sound of their recorded albums. It took their "edge" out, softened, and made the sound much more ethereal. Here you can see the power they had live.

this is the first version i heard of this song and i would listen to it over and over again. when i heard the album/single version i found that i wasnt quite as attached to it like i was with the peel session. i then lost my copy of the peel session and couldnt find it for years after and would only hear the common one. this is clearly superior to the other, in performance and feeling.
