I loooove how it's been done but it looks like it looks impossible haha too good to be true actually, can this be done with all types of black hair looking so sleek? and to get that is it required only to use that shampoo?
sorry I'm curious been growing my hair for a year now and I wanna press at September. :)
@MrsZefron778 I do NOT recommend this method at home because of the use of the heat. You may use any shampoo/conditioner that isnt oily but i prefer the Elucence line. It can be done on all hair types, the amount of heat will differ however.
Great info!..what did u use around her edges? I just love the silky look.. I'm transitioning frm chemical 2 Natural......(*_*)I need help 4 these edges...what kind of Blow dryer was that...hw Hot does it get?
throughout the duration of this video i was praying that your were in Atlanta and you are!!!! im so happy i need to see you asap. Do you know if the kera care wax stick lasts all day long especially with the humidity?
@JarodFowlerbo hi there....this technique is only recommended for curly hair clients. If your client has a curly or heavy wave pattern to their natural texture, then this will be beautiful. Otherwise, just use a ceramic and silk wrap the hair.
The end result looked very nice, but that seemed like waaaaaaay too much heat! Not to mention the fact that her ends appeared to be heat damaged before it was even blow dried. I hope her hair doesn't start breaking off!
@PhoenixNubia this client chose NOT to cut off all her hair to begin the natural process therefore what you perceive as heat damaged ends is actually relaxed hair. Best of luck on your quest!
@mandrillhardge Ah, I stand corrected then! I hadn't considered the fact that she might still have relaxed ends. Thank you for taking a moment to respond to my comment.
That's A LOT of heat! Blow dryer, marcel iron, then again a flat iron...How often does she do this? If she keeps this up, her hair will be permanently straight unless she grows it out.
@ladydipset88 that is what the definition of professional means....an individual that knows the proper amount of heat to apply to the hair in order to get these results without having heat damage.
Please visit Mandrill he will have you looking right. I drove two hours to get my hair pressed, colored, and a protein treatment. I must say it was totally worth it . I will see you in two weeks Mandrill. Thanks for the fabulous new look.
@nikirylee the amount of heat in this video is in direct conjunction with this clients texture...of course, each client will be different. some needing more and some needing less heat.
OKAY! I want that blow dryer what's that name of it PLEEEEEZZ? And my cousin has one of those flat iron things but how should she keep it hot once she takes it out of the oven?
I went to Mandrill on Saturday and Boy was I impressed. Not only does my hair look great, I didn't even have to wait. Thanks Mandrill! I will be back.
i like how men put so much love and gentle care in while working on hair . it really pays off . not that women don't . im just saying kuddos to the men that really do !!!!
Really Nice!! So if Ur a person whose hair just falls when i step out the Salon or can sweat (not profusely either) and my hair is wet will it work or is it like having to get used to the procedure
@2192404 you may want to get pressed then curl opposed to silk wrapped. That way, when you sweat or your hair drops, it doesnt go limp, it will fall into more of a bouncy style.
Wow, you've just given me more incentive to go back to natural. I am mid back length, close to waist length and have not had a relaxer for 1 year. I wish that you were located on the east coast, because I would love to experience your work. I'm deathly afraid of stylists, but you look like you enjoy doing hair and I would feel safe with you in my head I think.
@xotik what an awesome compliment and Im truly humbled by it. I am on the east coast in Atlanta. Come see me, or check back soon as I may be in a city near you ;)
Hey cousin! I remember when you colored and styled my hair back in the day! (1998) I still remember the date because I loved it. I am glad you are doing your thang and I wish you much sucess in the future! Keep smiling cuz when you do you make me smile as I remember those days in uptown morganton...clarinets...and festivals uptown! lol
Hi! I LOVE the press u did in this video and would like to know what kind of iron you uesd? I've been natural for almost five years now and i could never get the same results with my marcel flat irons. HELP PLEASE and THANK YOU
Definitely going to pay you a visit! Amazing!! I HATE oil in my hair! I saw an ad on craigslist and I looked up Silk Press.. I saved your number. And when I get ready to come in for my "custom" color I will surely call you! Your work is AMAZING!
You did an excellent job on her hair...I would like to setup an appointment with you, please send me your information...Thanks so much..I just went all Natural in Jan 2010.
Your welcome! I didn't get a chance to include this in my last post but I'm interested in using the silk press irons. I've used a Chi flat iron in the past but was not able to get my hair very straight. Do you think it would be a bad idea for me to do my own hair using a Golden Supreme iron? I would go to a salon but i can't find a stylist who straightens natural hair where I live.
You did such a beautiful job on her hair. I wish I lived in ATL so I could go to you. I'm trying to learn how to press my own hair, because I would like to go natural but maintain a straight look. Which irons do you recommend and do you use a temperature controlled oven?
@browniebee4 Thank you....the flatiron that I prefer is the CHI, however there are several good ones available now. Try your local Ulta Beauty Store. The oven that I use is NOT temp controlled.
@mandrillhardge WONDERFUL VIDEO! WHAT PRODUCTS LINES DO U USE TO SHAMPOO AND CONDITION THE HAIR? WHAT DO U USE TO KEEP THE HAIR FROM BEING DRY, ANY OIL TREATMENTS IF SO WHAT LINE OF OIL TREATMENTS AND PLEASE DO A RELAXER RETOUCH VIDEO IF POSSIBLE THANKS AND AGAIN, BEAUTIFUL WORK!
I love it!!...It looks like she had a relaxer but she didn't.This gives me hope.because I've been going natural for 2 years, and I've been noticing that my flat iron don't do my hair ANY justice anymore...But I have a question...at the end of the video, you used a white tube on the edges of her hair...what was it?...gel?
Wow .. her hair came out great. All i want to know is did she have any problems with her texture returning with all that heat and how often do you recomend women with natural hair get their hair done like that
which line of shampoo and conditioner and leave in do you use im a professional hair stylist and im looking for a new line to use for the silk press THANK YOU AND GREAT WORK
The most goregous transformation I have ever seen ! I am currently transitioning and my texture is about the same of your model- which gives me ever more courage to step out and do natural , thank you for the wonderful video. Just wish you were in Washington D.C. I really need a good consistent stylist :-(
WOW!! May I ask what products you used prior to the blow drying and marcel? Very nice work... I have a sister in the Atlanta area who is currently going to a Dominican shop.... she will now get the 411 on you!!
Hi Ladies, Simply Put..Mandrill is the BEST! I have been a client for nearly two years and he has completely transformed my hair. His technique and products are wonderful and he is professional - he values your time; long gone are the days of sitting in a salon for hours. I am just so fortunate I live in Atlanta. I have family and friends who travel from LA, Chicago, and Houston just to sit in his chair.
A few have asked what the temperature is of the blow dryer that I use...Its a Tyche Dryer 2000 watts..
Also the shampoo/conditioner line that I use has all the protectant and leave in conditioners that is needed to blow dry and press the hair. Remember that its a silk press so you dont want the hair to be weighed down!
If you ever come to Grand Rapids, Mich., please let me know! I need you!!! I'm stuck doing my own hair for the past 5 years now cuz none of the salons know how to do my hair here. Some even use wax!!!! I do a great job on my own, but you'd love my hair! Twelve inches of thick, virgin hair!!! No chemicals ever!
That is really good work! I want to go natural and get a silk straightening. I have been getting kiddie perms since i was 13 and I am now 20. Even with using a kiddie perm I still have damage. I might definately need to pay you a visit to get my hair back to a healthy state
I love Mandrill! His work is amazing, I just left his chair not to long ago. Ever since I stopped relaxing my hair Mandrill has made my hair healthier than ever before. The road to natural is not easy but if your on team Mandrill your journey will be a fun and stress free!!
#1 He's clearly an expert and knows how to do hair! That girl's hair look simply fabulous!
#2 what's up with her facial expression during the video?
#3 I noticed (while the hair was still soaking wet) that her hair had clear signs of heat damage (where the ends of the hair are no longer curly and lay straight), is that a result of this method?
#4a What kind of blow dryer was that? I need one in my life.
#4b What was that glue stick looking thing that you used to paste down her edges at the end?
Wow you're thorough! Just the kind of stylist that I need in my life! I live in Upstate New York though... But I do happen to have an aunt who lives in ATL. I may just have to pay you a visit sometime.
In encourage ladies in the ATLANTA AREA to get on Mandrill's schedule as soon as possible! He really is a hair extraordinaire. I have seen his work and it is phenomenal!
@snowflkpjs It would be my pleasure ;). look to see you soon.

@reserectcc Hi love..thanks for the compliment, now to answer your questions with what I hope will be helpful information:
#2- she was trying not to laugh during the taping because we were clearly cutting up,,,lol
#3- this particular client is still in the growout stage of her relaxed hair back to its natural state. It has been about a year and a half.
#4a -Tyche 2000( I cant live without it..lol)
#4b- KeraCare Styling Stick for flyaway edges.

Wow you're thorough! Just the kind of stylist that I need in my life! I live in Upstate New York though... But I do happen to have an aunt who lives in ATL. I may just have to pay you a visit sometime.
Keep doing fabulous hair! *smooches*
