the grand sport is my personal favorite the ZR1 is overpriced, the Z06 is alright but i prefer LS3, the vette is a mans car makes the camaro look like a hotwheels toy
I have never used launch control in my GS, feels like I might break something. This car will eat the rear tires regardless, car has so much torque, there is wheel spin all the time. I have 5000 km on my car & rear tires are at 50% life.
The only American car I would ever buy. (I would say the Buick Regal GS but it is technically German and therefore doesn't count along with the Australian built Pontiac's)
beautiful grand sport, it sucks that the vette is the only decent vehicle GM makes other than a tahoe or traverse, cobalt sucks, aveo sucks, cruze sucks, hhr sucks, impala sucks, malibu sucks, i could go on all day, bottom line corvette is the best supercar for the money
The wheel spin heats the tires and is controlled. The best part about it is it will make launches more consistent. I hate to see bad drivers give corvettes a bad name in some video with a C6 ZO6 running a 13 @ 120 mph.
Way to show how you treat vehicles before someone buys them. You're supposed to break in new cars for a few hundred miles before beating them to shit.
Way to advertise how les stanford treats cars before they're sold.
@firewallx thats beating the shit out of it? it was prolly only spinning 3000-3500 rpm. if it was bouncing off the limiter i would agree but you have to vary driving conditions while trying to break in the motor
@dtaft01 LOL.....Yeah no kidding......I've seen dealer staff beat the sh*t out of a Pontiac Vibe in the parking lot. LOL A Corvette is understandable but a Pontiac Vibe?? Some of these guys would do donuts in an Aveo.
This thing is so freakin hot. Too bad I will only be able to afford an 08 Base, but I am not complaining. I can't wait unti lthe next Corvette car show to see one up close.
I have seen two or three year old Z06's with less than 10k miles on it for much cheaper than the cost of a brand new base c6. I suspect the Grand Sport would be the same way. If you don't absolutely have to have a new one, its something to consider.
Ok people why is it that when things are re-introduced with a possible twist ya'll get so excited? In actuality the GS doesn't really have much more of an impact from its predecessor the Z51.I mean ya go from having to pay extra for these features with the Z51, to them being stock apps with the GS. All of a sudden the 2010 GS C6 Corvette is so much different from a 2005-2009 C6? The body style is EXACTLY the same!They added brakes, newer tires, a GS badge and quarter panels. Maybe Z51 tranny..
The GS 6-speed coupes come with the Z06 dry-sump and handbuilt LS3's. All GS's also get the rear widebody quarter panels from the Z06. There's a good bit of stuff you couldn't get unless you went aftermarket before.
I saw a recent interview where a GM exec hinted that the handbuilt GS motors would 'very likely' be near the upper end of the LS3 tolerance range regarding horsepower. In GMspeak, the indication seems to be that there will be more horsepower for the GS, albeit not a whole lot more of it.
you really need to get more info. Basically what they have done is made an extreme track pack for the base model vette that will replace the Z51. It is basically a Z06 without the aluminum and alumentium chassis and LS7.
corvette engineers have said that experienced driver will launch the car better however this will allow anyone to launch the car consistently and they showed quantified data when they were presenting this
learn to adapt... PUH..... this is for people who dont know how to launch there car and need a aide or help... Like i said if you cant take the time to learn by yourself you will never get good at it. But most people dont understand the concept of how to actually launch a manual car anyways so this feature is for lazy people.... PWND!
I am an engineer and I wouldn't call this launch control very effective. Regardless of cold tires or concrete surface, a proper launch control system should modulate power if slip is detected. The way the rears lit up shows their engineers have a long way to go (in this department anyway). But whatever, I'm not even a fan of launch control.
as someone who has dragraced before, you want some wheelspin when you launch. If the tires dead hook, the engine will bog down. Sure you can regulate power, but what about when surface changes? Tires? The fact that the car didn't sit still and light up the tires on a cold night and on a dealer lot is a testament to the launch control system. Seems good to me and when you move that car to a track, it will pull 60' times well below the 2 second mark with any driver. In that sense, it is great.
Do you work for Corvette? Did you participate in Corvette's first ever launch control system? How are you more qualified than the engineers at Corvette?

Considering the fact it was it was murdering the rear tires, I would say this launch control system is a failure. It sure is a nice looking car, though.
Most definitely. When it comes to using a technology developed by a myriad of highly paid engineers for a premier and expensive sports car, a commenter on youtube who has watched a video of the technology in action has much more credibility.
No launch control system can launch a car with that much power with cold (street) tires, cement and no slicks. But wait you're a youtube commentator, you must be right...
What is it with all of you smacktards continuously referring to the cement? Anyone care to guess what the racing surface is comprised of at all of the fastest dragstrips in America? Holy cow, it's CEMENT! Ever wonder why street racers like to launch from a bridge if possible? It's because they are CEMENT.

They added Z06 parts:
* Wider front and rear fenders specifically front fenders with GSt badges
* Z06-style front splitter & tall rear spoiler
* Functional brake ducts & extra cooling
* Unique 18-inch front and 19-inch wheels
* Bigger tires
* Z06-size brakes, including 14-inch (355 mm) front rotors with six-piston calipers and 13.4-inch (340 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers
* Specific manual transmission gear ratios
* Specific rear axle ratio on automatic-equipped models
