jus a little pointer that when you take the colours out of the box you should hold them by their ends, like you said montessori originally made these tablets using spools of thread which looked amazing (ive seen some that are made like this) so the children learnt to respect the thread and only held them by their ends otherwise they would damage the beauty of them. Also something else to consider is that you should put them back in order since the children are going through a sensitive period

I think you need to FOLLOW the child. The purpose of this activity is two fold: teach the child vocabulary and promote visual discrimination. I was trained to say the name of the color as you are putting the color down on the mat. Everyone is different.
