Race-based shame is not only relegated to blacks. I am ashamed of being white. I am ashamed of being what the word "Christian" has come to symbolize. It makes a mockery of Jesus' teachings of mercy for those less "powerful", and instead is used as an excuse to exploit them. This preacher is right. God explicitly says, "Turn from sin & I will heal your land". God does not say, "Because you are America you are excused". Wake up, white America. Your ignorance is showing.
you will not know unless you been through it. ask yourself, what are the lies he state! welcome to the the last war! stupid racist people are ever where! the same that said "crucify, crucify, crucify....
@JaguarRonin It makes me sick & ashamed to be white. Not that the missionaries are in on it overtly. But that is the way it goes. Look at Hawaiian history as well. Same old story. I am sure it makes Jesus sick. And now to be "Christian" is likened to being an uneducated follower intolerant of every other religion or race. I refuse to belong to a "church" (building or group). Whites need to watch shows on Martin Luther King, Malcolm X & Mandela. Have mercy as Jesus would have you do..
Look at Reverend Jeremiah Wright on the monitors, while serving in the military as both a Marine and Cardio-Pulmonary Technician; get outa here; I thought he was a *&*))! "I got him," said the Secret Service.
Correction Bloggop, only INTELLIGENT people watch PBS...the rest just watch what they are programmed to watch, like FOX. There's very little intelligence in the U.S. and that's why it appears that no one watches PBS but there are those small amount of us who do because um,...we don't want to be stupid and like to learn new things, and read too. When's the last time FOX encouraged anyone to read a book that had more than just pictures in it?
if the church is multicultural like wright says toward the end of this segment, why does the church website ask ALL the members to profess allegiance to the BLACK work ethic, BLACK values, BLACK family etc?
I think it is more to do with the black mind set rather than the actual skin colour, if you had listened carefully to what he actually said you might of come to that greater understanding yourself.
In other words nothing to do with colour, black people have not a history of hating people that have different skin colour you must listen very carefully.
i didn't say anything about race, i said about 'multicultural'. that is his word and i asked about what HE said. surely there are cultures where the predominant skin color is not black. and the 'black mindset'? how can there be any one mindset for a group of people as large and diverse as those with black skin? there can't be. wright is a collectivist viewing all people of similar groups, in this case those with black skin, as having the same experiences, or mindsets or work ethics, etc.
I think it is more to do with the black mind set rather than the actual skin colour, if you had listened carefully to what he actually said you might of come to that greater understanding yourself.
In other words nothing to do with skin colour, black people have not a history of hating people that have different skin colour you must listen very carefully.
why must i listen so so carefully? why doesn't he just come out and say what he means? i don't ask people to listen super super carefully to me to understand the general thrust of what i'm saying. i just come out and say what i am saying. the reason we have to decipher so carefully what he is saying is that he is trying to give us the runaround and contrive excuses for the hateful things he has said. if he were speaking straightforwardly he wouldn't have to do that.
Please excuse me Mr. Johnebii but I have a question. Can you please tell me what are these hateful things Rev. Wright has said? One more question, and not to be facetious, but you're white aren't you?
The hateful things that Mr. Wright said were: for God to 'damn America', calling the U.S.A. the 'U.S. of KKK A' saying that Bill Clinton did black people the same way he 'did Monica Lewinsky' (and I'm not a Clinton supporter) saying we bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki without ever 'batting an eye'...these are some of his hateful comments. Why do I have to do the research for you? It's been in the news, don't you know what he said? And yes I am white. What of it?
The reason I asked Johnebii is that the news media relies on two things in this county, ignorance and fear. Most of the fear, racially in this country, comes from white males. They tell you to be scared of communism, terrorism, Mexicans or whatever they want...and you blindly follow without question. Only to see years later that the same "enemy" you were programmed to hate, is now a U.S. business partner [see Viet-Nam for example]. Now is what I said "hateful"...or the truth? [More]
Lastly, yes this country has committed terrible acts against black people here and should be, if you believe in biblical principals, damned. Slavery, Jim Crow, Tuskegee experiments, CIA and the crack cocaine epidemic just to name a few. The U.S. for years protected the KKK from prosecution for killings and lynching of black people and the bombs dropped on Hiroshima/Nagasaki were unnecessary because they were dropped on civilian targets mainly. That would be called genocide. Wright is...right.
the overwhelming message of the entire word of god is forgiveness, not damnation. i don't see where by any biblical principle america should be damned. i guess you would have rather we not drop the bombs on hiroshima/nagasaki and that the japanese would have won the war? those bombs brought to it's knees a japanese dictator and his german cohort that were seeking to turn the entire world into their subjects. i guess you would have preferred them to succeed? more lives were SAVED by the ...
bombings than were lost in it b/c it squashed the japanase agression against the rest of the world. any elementary student of world history would know that. you don't know me, and you don't know what i do or don't 'follow'. you act as if white men are some sort of robots who do what they are programmed to do. i imagine this happens no more in white men than in any other race. your comment is more race-based hatred or what is more commonly known as racism.
Whoa...hold on. One, the U.S. is not removed from the sins it has cast on those who live here. The GENOCIDE of the natives is one clear example of that. The move west was a wholesale slaughter by the U.S. military on the Indians which killed them by the thousands, and that is FACT. Two, any historian [not elementary student] will tell you that the U.S. military had decoded ALL Japanese transmissions and KNEW a surrender was only two+ weeks away however Truman still insisted to drop the bombs...
Personally I ain't racist. Some of my best friends are black-LOL But seriously, the racial fear here and violence has historically come from white America. Who slaughtered the Indians? Who enslaved the African? Who abused the poor indentured servants of Irish, German and British decent? Now I'm not saying that all white people are bad or evil, I'm just saying the ruling class in America always creates fear among as many of the white masses it can in order for them to do their dirty work...
That is the main reason we don't have racial "harmony" in America because the media [owned by rich, whites], do not want blacks and whites to relate to one another on more common issues...which is where we should be at. Even during slavery, slaves and indentured servants got along until the local governments made land owners keep them separate. That's why I understand what the Rev is saying. He's telling the truth and only those who are isolated from people of color, have a problem with him.
Well Whites brought us here as slaves so they will always have a collective condescension towards us. Racial harmony is only achieved if we all agree to disagree.
The only people calling Wright's comments racist are the people who are themselves racist, and the people who see a benefit from making these comments out to be racist.
stupid fuckers, malcolm x did not assasinate jfk. Grow a sack and stand up to claim your racism. please quit trying to manufacture reasons not to elect a black president and admit your bigotry.
I've learned over time that "Americans" don't like what they don't understand. Most whites have never attended a predominantly black church. It's kinda like a subject in school that you never liked because you never understand the concept of that subject, so you reject that subject and never attempt to fully grasp it. I challenge people to educate (fully) yourself before you pass judgement on an individual or issue. Otherwise you are ignorant and it's shamefully apparent.

And you probably believe that the sun revolves around the earth too!!! There are more important issuse to be vetted than this. It's just like Obama said, if not this issue then they would find something else etc..... I'd rather people just come out an say "I can't vote for a black president" Bottom line and stop making up impotent issues that aren't relative to someone
There is a difference between Wright and Robertson or Falwell. I know a lot of Americans don't understand the complexities of racism, but there is a difference between being white and being black, other than merely skin colour. White racism is based out of supremacy, black prejudice is based out of attaining equalization. Until you can grasp those two different concepts, you can't comment intelligently on this subject.
That's quite an insightful comment, ODDMANtheone. Well said. Personally, I think the question of racism/nationalism/sexism etc etc etc runs a lot more broadly in the human psyche, but in specifically addressing this question, I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. Pity these limited comments only allow for soundbite sized exchanges.

They recently had Dr. Thomas Sowell on a segment where he was promoting his book 'Basic Economics'. I don't find any pictures in that one.
