2:20 - His hand wasn't cut in the manga. The whole sequence afterwards doesn't happen at all. The anime becomes loyal shortly after.

Note: There's a whole set of scenes, plot missing. There's also a short, gore fight between Riki-Oh and the general, then Riki-Oh's brother appears from the flames.

@xnicko I can say that the personality of the character in that moment was based on Toki from Fist of the North Star. Many actual parts of the anime are based on that.

That was some "derp derp", besides, Riki-Oh's appearance has been heavily altered from the way he looked in the manga. Also, a good 90% of anime characters who are meant to be Japanese don't even look Japanese.
