@markcliftonwilliams Thank you for your kind comments. I'm delighted that both you and your children like the song, as you say a timeless classic sung so beautifully by Danny Williams. Although this song is associated more with Andy Williams, I have always thought that Danny's version was the definitive version.Although, I will agree with others regarding Andy Williams version of the song 'The Impossible Dream', no one sings it better, he simply owns that song.
Danny and I became good friends from 1999 to his death in 2005. We helped each out musically many times in that period, and played a lot of tennis (he always beat me!) I loved what Danny did to the chorus of my song Looking Inside... so I've posted it here, and I hope you enjoy it. Kind regards - Richard Lamplough
Yes i totally agree a beautiful song and a timeless classic and like yourself i to was not a teenager in the 60's, by the end of the 60's i was only 12.
Bless your mum,she had very good taste and i am glad to hear that you can now appreciate this beautiful song again without getting too tearful. Kind Regards
Thank u for kind comments. Although i know many that will associate this song with Andy Williams, who also sang it well but i have always thought Danny's version was the definitive one.
A nice version, but nobody....I mean no one, can hang with Andy Williams version. One thing that I noticed, that makes Andy's original song so warm and "homey", and to me just kind of puts me at the river's edge, is the way he says "waitin'" round the bend. Danny's version is more canned, when he over pronounces words like "waitinG" round the bend. I don't know if this makes sense, but Andy's is just more heart waqrming, puts you in the scene of a slow rollin', peceful river.
hey now i think that Andy williams has got a fantastic voice one of the very best he sings so effortlessly, but come on give this man his due this is HIS song and he sings it beautifuly, thank you Danny for a lovely song,oh and yes Audrey Hepburn mmmmmmm what man wouldnt so much beauty in one person shouldnt be aloud x
I agree Andy Williams has indeed got a great voice and i do like some of his songs and no one can sing them better, but regarding 'Moon River'in my humble opinion i still regard Danny's version as 'The Definitive One' so alas i think that we will have to agree to disagree on this one but thank you kindly for your comments.
well that is what i was trying to say!read it again, sorry for any confusion, this is in my mind the definitive version as well!now we have that out of the way can you fix me up with Audrey or at least a look alike lol
The incredible thing is that this was a hit for Danny Williams in 1961 so, since he was born in 1942, he was only 18 or 19 when he recorded it. I find it astonishing that one so young could phrase the song, exhibit a wide range of vocal colour, and give it such a superb quality as he does at that tender age!
Danny had such a wonderful voice and sung some great songs but i will always maintain that in my humble opinion his version of 'MOON RIVER' was 'THE DEFINITIVE ONE'
I hasten to add no disrespect to Andy Williams intended, who is also a great singer
its an honor. thank you for putting this on here, and well, just for being alive. it really is all just an eyeblink, isn't it?

Just for the record Redhot, I agree with you totally. The classiest, the best, the definitive version.
What a shame Mr Williams' talent was blighted by so many personal problems and never really received the kudos it deserved. Thanks for posting.
