Watching this video to learn about computer stuff, and reading the comments leads me to believe that internet nerds can be quite the pugnacious bunch of pricks. Cool video though bbishoppcm!
Hey Bishop would you please help me with something? You see last night I hit my Macbook pro on the smooth blank spot between the sensor and the key buttons, it then froze on the spot then when i try to start it again the fan makes a very loud noise and it won't get to the menu screen, but the openeng still happens
I picked a MacBook Pro as a Christmas present this year, without being educated at all or anything, and I'm really happy that I picked it. I'm not a heavy gamer (something people seem to complain about?) and it does everything I need. So glad I picked a 13 inch MaBook Pro! :3
Can I just say, as a rather bias PCfag, this dude doesn't seem to know anything outside of the things you'll learn from browsing TigerDirect or Newegg. Tbh, there isn't much hardware difference between a Macintosh or a Windows based PC, it's all about retail people...
@tehfloyd I have worked as a computer support technician for 15 years, on both Windows and Mac platforms. I know considerably more than I let on in my videos, because my videos are not intended to be hour-long pissing contests. I've worked on ALL generations of Apple hardware from Apple II+ to Xserves. I've been a certified Apple technician since 2006, and support five independent businesses (all PC based) on the side, and have had to clean up messes after know-it-all jackasses fuck up.
@bbishoppcm Actually, he's right. In terms of internal hardware, Apple computers have been identical to PCs since the switch from PowerPC to x86. The only reason to get a Mac is for the software and the external design features which aid in usability.
@tropdars No, senor, he's not. While Apple hardware may be SIMILAR to PC designs (they use many of the same chips, and other SMT components), the engineering (putting it all together) is NOT the same. In the case of notebooks, the structure (And not just the "design") is vastly superior through materials and engineering (and I specifically refer to the unibody series in this case). Comparatively, most PC notebooks are little more than some painted plastic parts snapped together.
@tropdars Again, I've been servicing computers of all makes and models since 1997, and I find that Apple has increased the overall quality, fit, and finish of their equipment steadily since Steve Jobs returned in 1997. I cannot say this about their Windows-laden competition; no, infact, I find the quality of Windows hardware has declined in lock-step with the fall in prices over the past few years. Again, I am aware they use the same SMT components, and drives, but Apple specs major parts
@tropdars ...to meet the higher expectation of their customers. People buy Macs expecting more, and Apple is aware of this. Apple uses real glass LCD overlays, where everyone else uses plastic (including the macbook pro series); Apple also tends to buy higher quality SMT components (same parts, but from higher-grade batches), Apple also is known to use higher quality LCD panels than their competition. You do get what you pay for. I typically repair one mac for every 7 PCs I service daily.
is there any way you could take everything out and then put what comes from another laptop like the hp envy 14 and make it work as a pc with a macbook pro chassis?
@InSaNiTyReiGnZ No, this would be impossible; the MacBook Pro is built to a level of precision so high, it would make HP's head spin; there's a reason they sell for $1200 new, and tend to keep their value for many years. there is absolutely no way to stuff any board other than the original into one of these. The keyboard and display would never interface with a board from a different manufacturer. Why on earth would anyone want to do this?
Accidents do happen and can not always be prevented. So just a few questions..does Apple have some kind of roll cage technology within the chassis or a drainage unit for spilled liquids? What about an express card slot for both 34/54mm cards?
Overall, ok laptop but would be nice to have those features I mentioned above (I believe ThinkPads have those features).

just wondering. is it worth buying it now for xmas due to the fact that OS lion is coming out soon, more features for the next macbook pro13, n considering it might be released next summer?
@TheCrysisplayer I respect your opinion... but I'd like you to provide some insight into your opinion (why do they suck?). I support a network consisting of roughly 1500 Macintoshes, and 1000 Windows desktops and laptops; my 4,000 users prefer the Macintoshes by a landslide, and yet, I spend 70% of my time repairing the Windows systems. But I am definitely open to the opinions of others.
@bbishoppcm lack of software not in the sense of software as in to do basic things :editing, burning discs, movies etc.. but the software that i personally use i love all the little programs you can get on a windows pc cause there are more than a million more programs available on a pc + MAC HAS LIKE NO GAMES it has basic stuff like sims, wow, starcraft, but alot of driving and other genres are taken out
Only thing I didn't really like about the 13 was the fan. I still got it and absolutely love it but it gets a little hot streaming hd movies from netflix. Love my Mac! Mine came w/4gb memory, 250gb hd tho...
How much would this cost? I'm thinking of replacing my Toshiba with one. I'd rather have a 13" MacBook Pro than a 15.6" Toshiba that has a very bad reliability record, particularily with the SATA controller, as that seems to be what kills the hard drives in it...
@jdavid9292 Listen wiseass, I was referring to the overall body footprint. Not ALL laptop manufacturers (including Apple) have always used a body size that corresponds to the screen size.
@bbishoppcm Yeah I know what you were referring too, it still doesn't take a genius to figure out, a 13" macbook pro, is smaller than a 15" macbook pro, regardless of whether the number refers to screen size or overall body footprint. :)
@K3V214 Not possible by traditional methods... this is a surface-mount CPU (not socketed), there are other design limitations preventing this from happening, but I won't get into it.
I may be wrong here but I think the original Apple MacBook for 2006 has 3 speakers in it, one in the centre and one on eather end, as I say I may be wrong about that.
@enigmaisbetter While you may be right, nVidia builds the board to Apple's specifications. Steve Jobs has been known to demand some bizarre changes to the engineering of Apple's products, including relocating components to change the locations of screw holes under the older generation iBooks.
@enigmaisbetter yer but there was an interview with an nvidia manager about apple and he said that apple have been strict as hell with them and that there perfectionists to the letter
ive been wanting to ask you where do you get the macintosh os (like 7,8,9) and do you build your own custom computers cause i built one and im going to try to upload a review
@geekforlifevandc Vintage MacOS install discs are getting VERY scarce, fortunately, I do have a few copies of 7.1 on disc, and 7.5.3 on CD, plus I have the (still available only to service technicians) OS 9.2 disc images.
actually, yes it is. To make this earn the "Pro" moniker, they added a backlit keyboard, and firewire port. So yes, it's the "Cadillac Cimarron" of MacBook Pros.
@megamanfan3 The only time Apple has ever made a smaller, or as I would say, "Sportier" version of their more expensive (coveted) MacBook Pro (or PowerBook line) was the 12" PowerBook G4... which was a screamer of a Powerbook in a compact package.
I know on the older MacBooks where you can replace the battery you also have easy access to the hard disk and RAM, can you replace the hard disk and RAM in this machine without voiding the warranty?
This is a grey area, I'll have to check the service manual to see if this is user-serviceable, I don't believe it is. I am an Apple technician, so I'm free to poke around without voiding my warranty.
I like these machines, they look so attractive and are generally well made and highly regarded< if I had the money and hadn't developed cold feet last time I bought a computer, I most likely would have bought one of these, perhaps the 15 inch model, how long have you had this computer for?
