When he says don't let your posture fall, he is right. So many guys try to do this on me because I have really long strong legs so any guard breaks while they are seated pretty much fail. But 90% of the time they let their posture fall and I pull them and roll inverted back for the sweep to mount. So be very careful about your posture. Also be careful about your foot placement as I find I can sweet a lot of guys straight back by opening and pulling their ankles in while pushing their body away.
I thought so too until recently when John Burke (Royce Gracie Black Belt) passed my guard using this move while using as much effort as it takes to chew gum. Since then I have been working with it quite a bit with some success. The key is to maintain good posture and to keep your elbow glued to your upper thigh which helps to lock his hips in place. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.
@real82it@real82it If you put your feet in the right place (a little more than shoulder width apart and in close to their elbows like jay is doing at 1:12) then you are good. That will make it so they can't grab your heels/ankles with their hands and pull on them as they don't have the room to. If your feet are too far back, posture is bad and you get swept. I have had guys do this pass on me correctly and it owned. Guys that did it sloppy all failed and were swept by one means or another.
do u know if in Judo, when grappling, r we allowed to stand to escape a guard or half gaurd? Some green belts are telling me no.

What do you guys think about the way Marcelo Garcia keeps his posture bent forward when passing? Thanks!

jay, don't you find that it is dangerous to stand without controlling at least one arm? Seems you are vulnerable for a few sweeps.
