I agree that Weckl has improved, although I wouldn't say he's technically better than he was in the 80s. He is just a far more mature musician with a constantly growing understanding of rhyrhm and an incredible ability to impart rhythm (and chops) in an amazingly musical and tasteful manner.
It's a fine point, but his technique has changed hugely since the 80s. His playing (no matter what it is) now sounds more "natural" and warm than it did back then.
On one hand, he awes me just as much as he did back then. On the other, I see him much more relaxed and less mechanical sounding (re. moeller grip et al).
IMHO he's improved technically. But I guess I sorta know what you meant, too...
I can never get tired of his playing...

Simple enough - have fun with it.
I think dave improves and has so much fun large in part to playing to background and prerecorded music, like here.

Definitely a cool track. Weckl improves every time I see him, not like it seems possible. I wonder if Gary Meek will be releasing this cd soon?
