  • the eastern asians r more skilled fighters. just kidding, it just depends on the person's surroundings and the location of where he or she lives. wdf was this video about anyways? o well, at least it's better than no video. in the end, if u never swore in ur life, somehting is wrong with u. unless ur a monk or buddha.

  • hmm..not sure about this.. i answered a certain way because that is what i was taught when i was in grade school.

  • I said monkey and panda because both were animals. NOOOOOOO, I think like white people. I have disgraced my family. Uggghhhhhhhhh.

  • So dumb.. These people doesn't understand the difference of language and it's usage! Happy in English is as simple as feeling good. East Asians don't normally use "happy", they use happiness or the state of being happy!! The question asker should have asked "does he look like he is in the state of happiness" instead!

  • This is the most biased and non-random sampled survey ever.

  • this is bullshit. different people are different and it's got nothing to do with their race

  • Canadian and I connected the monkey with the banana as well. But the other tests I was consistent with the Western results except the flower test.

  • i believe happy! ^^ ... id like to belive happy :D

  • Do you have the other parts? It is very interesting and I want to see it all

  • lol at this documentary

biased as fuck, and why do they focus on greek philosophers?

how about newton, huh? I guess he doesn't fit into their view so he isn't included

  • maybe that also explain why white people tend to be more racist than other races since they tend to see everything in categories

  • @telecake I totally agree!

  • @telecake I completely disagree. Westerners educational system encourages thinking outside the box while easterners are taught to think inside the box i.e. patterns. I believe this is why more asian tend to go into fields with patterns like engineering. Because asians see things inside the box and patterns they tend to believe people also follow patterns and tend to stereotype more-so than westerners. Just my own assessment.

  • @logsandswirls Field of Engineering requires thinking outside the box ; Innovation, Creativity, Logic and Brain!

Pattern Recognition is one field of logical/mathematical study and essential for building new technology.

  • @classicpiano123 If you say so, Im not an engineer but all the ones that I know lack in the creativity department...

  • @logsandswirls Many engineers or surgeons etc going into the field even though they got artistic talents; simply for economy. It pays a lot better to be an engineer or a surgeon than being an artist or a musician. I play classical piano and had aconcerts etc but I can make a lot better living as an engineer. Many surgeons and dentists are great with hands and eyes (fine art, sculpture etc.) - I know them as friends so. There are some true "geeks" that their hobbis are computer/ lab also. :-)

  • @telecake ....im white and i don't categories things or people.....i thing that was rather racist, narrow minded and that you categories

and these questons where misleading in the fact they did not exsplian what they whanted

    sorry for bad spelling

  • by the way, i know you're all smart and all. but, isn't it easy to forget though that almost always, there are exceptions to the rule. and yes, this is a quasi-scientific study based on a survey of a sample population, not the whole population. nice to keep that in mind.

  • one day it's not going to be east vs west or white vs black or whatever. it's going to be WE and US, earthlings, vs. non-earthlings. better prepare for that than waste time on "i'm better than my brother from another mother" arguments. hahaha

  • @Homoautokus lol? this video is a loaded crock of crap. It's a lie. OF COURSE the people it's lying about are going to respond.

  • Sorry, but I think this is a crock. I am a westerner and I noticed those in the background instantly. Not only that, but she askes "does HE look happy?" not do THEY look happy. I am willing to bet that they had to pick through the responses to get the results they wanted on this little "experiment". Total fail on your part.

  • @ThisIsMySockAccount Are you American? You know what, I think this is more like American vs East Asian, not necessarily Westerner vs East Asian.

  • Why People always talking about the Differences, why not talking about the Similarities instead?

  • I'm Asian American, and I connected all three pictures. I saw the monkey and panda and banana. I didn't connect the three.

  • For those people who're freaking out saying Eastern culture is better or Western is, read the damn title, it says the DIFFERENCE between the two cultures. It dosen't claim either is superior or inferior in anyway.

  • @americanoxford

He says that Americans see things in categories, and Asians see things in relations, it's not inferiority or superiority, it's just differences.

  • western is way behind compared to the middle east

  • @Noobury True. Most of what the Europeans have came from Middle East. They can fight that all they want, but even in their school books they acknowledge Sumeria.

  • is they something like this with Africans?

  • Uh, they said to focus on the kid in the center. The first lady even asked, "same one?" in the first example. Focusing on ONLY HIM, he did look happy in both pictures. So the phrasing "Does HE look happy?" is a bit loaded. I wonder if they are phrasing these questions the same way to each person. I'm sure cultural differences do affect perception on a variety of levels but this video is doing a terrible job of showing it.

  • you make sense. Yah, like if you only focus on the things you are looking at, it is like you place what only matters to you the priority. Therefore the issue is about you, you only think of you. Where as, if you try to see if there is any relationship the thing you are looking at with other things..surroundings..for example, like asians then you would place family priority because you have the relationship with your parents..siblings and relatives..is that right?

  • @jasluvtian

Little experiment? Was this video part of a scientific study?

    The video is obviously biased.

  • @Dascoo

Then in your own term, explain or give your point of view on the interest difference in answers between asians and europeans. Do you think its only cultural or biological difference?

  • Asian circle jerking nonsense.

  • @Dascoo

i dont give much thought to your comment because it is not true. The very least that everyone can take as fact is the little experiment they did in the videos showing the interesting difference between asians and westerners. This is biological i am talking about, not culturally. I can see the difference for both races evolve in different settings...

  • @jasluvtian There is most definitely a biological influence. I am half Asian and half American. But my father is the Asian. Both my sister and I have come out more Asian not only in appearance, but most especially in behavior. We are not even close to our Father, we're close to our American mother. But the Asian behavior, dietary habits, and how we function in relationships is completely different than those with White fathers.

  • well, i thought the boy was putting up a front so he wasnt as happy as the first picture; as for the monkey-panda-banana correlation, i thought the monkey was more related to the banana (unless the question was, 'which of the two are living things?')

i dont really understand the concept of looking at the picture but it might explain why i cant stand a giant wall of text =/ (i'm southeast asian by the way)

  • The second picture gave me a bad vibe lol like i was getting started on ... just kidding kinda. I always say you cant know what someones exact feelings are...subjective n what not and thats why its frustrating being human....are our feelings so qualitively unique. I just considered the situation and if he was happy or not in relation to the people behind him, even in the first picture i wasnt sure if he was happy.

  • Well im sure east asians dont drink rat poison and watch tv laden with subversive messages and programming like we do in the west.

  • i thought the boy was still happy in the second picture. However cause i dont understand korean, i sort monkey and banana toghether..then i realize what was aked i was like damn i am really asian. I thought of the concept of monkey+banana rather than of panda+monkey are animals in a group. I think of concept but not the group. I was at first skeptical about this but i realize i think like the asians. I chose A in the previous experiment. I am vietnamese by the way.

  • @jasluvtian

That's fascinating. I'm 3/4 Caucasian and 1/4 Native American, which of course are descended from Asians. I live in the US. I also answered all of the questions the way the Asians would, and so did my brother. Btw, when you talk to people, do you sometimes feel like your conversations almost move randomly from topic to topic?

  • @VigilanteNighthawk

So its fascinating to know this, but then what can we learn out of this..anyone any idea..something positive from this.

  • @jasluvtian First, it's interesting that we seem to be the control. While raised in Western society, we both think like Asians in Asia. This could suggest a possible genetic origin for such thought patterns. It may also help to explain political and social structures of various cultures, such as why Eastern societies tended to place the family above the individual whereas western culture tends to promote individual effort above the group.

  • The Westerners R just answereing the '?' Directly as it should , which is: Is this "Person" happy? in both pics, which is yes, if the '?' was is the atmosphere in both pics is happy? then the answer will focus on the bk-ground aswell, the asians didnt answer this '?' correctly cuz it was focused only on the "PERSON" not the whole scene,

  • fascinating.

  • I am Korean and I think the boy in second pic looks like he is a bad guy because other people look angr or sad because of him. haha. It's the difference of way to think between Asian and white. lol

  • @zzangolla

That's funny. I'm biracial, and I was a bit confused when answering the question. I thought the boy looked happy, but I thought he was happy because he did something to piss everyone off.

  • For the record I am an American. ^_^

  • I didn't think the boy was happy in the second picture I immediately thought that his smile represented his mischieviousness. I thought he did something and was smurking about it. Regarding the Panda and the banana. Since the question was not asked in englished I thought it was what do they have in common and of course, I thought the monkey and maybe the panda eats banana alhough I was unsure about the panda. Seeing the animal in the wild I was looking and thinking that land looks really dry

  • so whats this shit all about what does it prove

  • i dont understan if they are asking about one boy and if hi=e is happy yes he is happy in both pics why he is i dont know mabe where every one looks made he just won a game and people dont like him .... if i am happy i am happy who cares who is made behinde me i may not know thoses people and they might not have anything to with me i just dont get it....

  • I'm American, but I connected the monkey with the bananna.

I guessed that the kid was happy in both pictures, though.

  • I am Asian grew up in the west. I have the same asnwer as u. I am just AMAZED why pp would c the happy as "sad" just bc the change of the background! He IS happy, alright?! Weird.............

  • @capyle1981 _ I'm Asian American and I wasn't sure how to connect monkey either to banana or panda....LoL

because I saw two different connections. The kid samething...I thought he was happy on both pictures but I was also thinking he must have headach to be around unhappy people. A very interesting test.

  • I was totally shocked when grandma looking mans voice spoke lol 7:53

  • its because ur probably american and don't see the whole picture :P

  • whoa that's really cool!! I would've never thought of the monkey and panda together! well it didn't hit me straight away at least. that 's really interesting about the happy/sad background thing. I was really surprised that all the east asians said that the same kid in the second picture was unhappy.
