帰省のたびに新幹線を使っています。

乗継の特急列車が、最優等「のぞみ」(博多行き)と連絡していた­ので、子ども達を連れて帰る時、下りは一桁番台、上りでも二桁番­台若い列車番号の「のぞみ」に乗ることが多かったです。

1997年11月の東海道区間デビューの翌年1998年夏と19­99年夏に500系のぞみに乗車しました。一方の年は、切符の予­約が遅れて、グリーン車に乗車しました。子ども達は大喜びでした­が、懐は痛かったです。(笑)

ここにある多くの御意見同様、私も500系が新幹線の最高傑作で­あり、最も格好良いデザインだと思います。(^-^)

今は観られなくなった貴重な映像、ありがとうございました。○┐­

Japanese SHINKANSEN is NO.1 in many respects. How safe, how comfortable, how fast.....The maximum speed of Shinkansen isn't the fastest in the world, but taking into consideration Japanese geografical condition such as the number of tunnels, how steeply curved rails are, it is fast enough to be proud of!

@MurphyColeman It is fast and there are lots of them. They can be faster but they have to use the same track system that the earlier bullet trains use which somewhat slows them down - been on them - fantastic and they arrive and leave on the second they are supposed to !!

Because of residential (densely populated) areas near the Shinkansen route, it has no way but to run more slowly than it can unlike foreign high-speed lines such as TGV in France.(/o_o\) Shinkansen has to be more appreciated all over the world!

@MurphyColeman Yep, even if other high speed trains goes faster, nothing beats the Japanese Shinkansen. Puntuality, safety, etc. The shinkansen may not be the fastest, but is the quickest and has the most smooth and quiet trains to travel along. You may be inside a 500 Series Nozomi or on a N700 Nozomi, and if you get asleep or even if you don't look out then you wouldn't notice that those trains are rocketing @ 300km/h.

It's very regrettable that Chinese authorities played down the safety of the passengers and stuck to the highest speed in the world. They should recognize it's nonsense to pursue superficial efficiency and reputation. Unfortunately there is no accumulation of how to operate the high-speed train safely.

An incredibly sleek, handsome part of the Shinkansen fleet! Its acceleration out of Osaka's (dedicated?) station appeared breathtakingly smooth and rapid, a crew of three drivers having entered the lead unit only a minute prior to departure. Would that we in the US had such a passenger transport system, with swift rail corridors connecting our cities. God, I'm bloody dripping with envy -- up JR!
