Zevon's best numbers are like folksongs out of the past--they linger in the mind, and you don't care how many verses they have. This one is an absolute riot.
Warren was satiric and "in your face" stylistically. As many as his songs are quasi-autobiographical, I wonder what part of this might be. . . .I like to think it was the part about housewives. . .
@johnthehulk1 i completely agree with you for example roland the headless thompson gunner-one of my favorite songs is much like mr. bad example it tells a story in the form of a poem which i believe truly shows warren's genius both with the lyrics and the rythm also i did not know that he was a jingle writer and one more thing he was to echo yor thoughts before his time
This song is another brilliant story told like a poem. Warren was not just a song writer, but a story teller. In fact he hung out with some of the best writers like Stephen King and Carl Hiaasen. I can see now why he was a pretty sucessful "Jingle writer", when he was writing commercials. RIP Warren. Like Vincent Van Gogh, you were too intelligent for this world.
@mrbadx19 Bullshit you faggot. The name "internet" has only been around for 14 and what was around before that wasn't a bunch of forums for you to plaster a shitty user name on. Check your time lines before you start making shit up kid.
Mr. Zevon far too cool for this world. A lyrical genius and one of the greatest story tellers who ever lived. As so many people love crap, it's no wonder his intelligent writing, and composition and odd talent for fusing the two went so unappreciated.
I Love it! I Loved this song the very first time i heard it. I wonder why? LOL. I am Mr. Bad Example...... R.I.P. Warren. Another who died too young...
Too bad a major production like Letterman probably doesn't do rehearsal or anything like that, Warren and the band must of gotten there minutes before broadcast and just slung the whole god damn thing.
That Zevon...what a bastard. Too bad they didn't bring in Michael Bolton to evaluate the tones and run the controls, because this song would be perfect paired with a rich grand piano loaded with forty six different types of reverb.
Idiots aside...wicked tune, dug that accompaniment
Zevon, you could have done better coming up with a melody that isn't a rip of a shitty song. The shitty song in question? The Piano Man.

A great song that crosses the line twice.
@FleetAdmiralHog
The Web's been around for about 18 years, the Internet itself is much older, and people had handles on BBSes in the 80s. Check your own timelines.

Zevon said this song "went on way too long" and obnoxious, and he didn't care, b/c he and Jorge had so much fun writing it.
Love it! Miss you, Warren!

maybe its 'sposed to be as artificial and abrasive as the subject of the song

@Jiggs46 The keyboards sound a lot better in the studio recording. I think the circus sound is intentional.
