I Flunked The V.A. Sleep Test

So i am an RPSGT sleep tech. We normally get patients up at 0530AM. I assume the "flunked " thing is a joke. When i worked at a hospital lab we ran people from 8PM to 5AM, so i don't think that's unusual. It's amazing the things sleep techs hear over and over and over again. Believe me when i say you're not alone. Also, to those that think apnea is only weight related, My husband is 6 3' and 160 lbs, and has awful apnea. So no, it's not just weight or age related. It's usually genetic.

hey bud..whenever patients cant sleep during their study..we give them the option to go home..but we dont tell them they have to leave. We normally wake them up at 6 am though. Sounds to me like the tech just wanted to be done early. It is possible for you to sleep as little as 15 minutes and be diagnosed with sleep apnea. For your next study, ask your doctor to prescribe you a sleeping pill, just for that night..or maybe some type of ant anxiety pill. Dr's usually do that with our patients

Marie (aka Sissy) doesn't come around much. 2 or 3 times a year maybe for about 30 minutes visit. She stays about 40 minutes' drive away which is out of reach of momma's hoopdee car.

77ammada I hate to disillusion you....... I am a tall, skinny, youngish female, and I have sleep apnoea. (That is how it is spelled in Australia) Just today I saw a sleep specialist who told me, even little children can have this problem. The overweight, middle-aged man is a myth when it comes to disruptive snoring. In my case, I have a deformity inside my throat which I never knew about.

I had that happen to me once... I had to schedule a return trip the next week.

Fortunately I live down the street from the Sleep Clinic. The visits were covered by my insurance.

The followup test went well, and I eventually got my BiPap machine.

They can give me a machine that I hook myself up to and it emails the graphs to their machine. I should probably hook it up to my dog and freak them out, shouldn't I!?

The V.A. is a government b'rocracy. Somebody will tell them in a year or two.

They kicked you out of the hospital when you failed the sleep test? I presume that they would have let you stay if you`d fell asleep, so what`s the point in sending you home when you can`t sleep. It just seems stupid to me, letting a sleep deprived man drive home. It just seems to be a recipe for disaster.

Ask your Doc if you can do an at home sleep study. All you need is an Auto-PAP and a Recordable Pulse-Ox.. It's not perfect but it will tell them what they need 2 know. BTW I have been on CPAP 4 over a year now...

Messes up the wires. They gave me a cup to pee in but asked that I pee laying on my back. I don't know if all tests are like this or I just got a Nurse Ratchet.

Pee cups are underrated. Beds with drains even better. But unless you have a "stadium pal" or are catheterized, you can't pee facing up, I'm sorry.

I think they will do a day test if they can round up enough day sleepers to be cost efficient. Remember, V.A. hospitals are socialized medicine. Do you think you have sleep apnea? Do you snore? I tried the oxygen mask they use to force air down your throat. It was weird at first, but I liked it.
