@tpabaygarstud Never been to the north Georgia mountains? People did and do speak like she speaks in this movie. Her accent alone would have made her performance Oscar-worthy but she embodies an attitude that makes her accent secondary to the Appalachian strength and coarseness she so fluidly projects. Spectacular!
I have a strange feeling about this clip. I have a pretty standard reaction when I watch Zellweger act: I feel like ripping the face of a baby seal off.
Strangely enough I found this clip to be very good. Have I gone completely insane or was I insane to begin with?
"Every piece of this is man's bullshit. They call this war, a 'cloud over the land', but they made the weather; then they stand in the rain and say 'Shit it's raining!'" lmfao
Renee's performance in this movie was just spectacular. You associate her with being Ruby and not Renee Zellweger, which is what acting is meant to do. She put her whole self into her character. Love this movie.
The movie was dull till Renee's character showed up and got things moving to what counts no matter what is going on around you. Ruby brought with her a homespun perspective of war while she countered the effects bravely living the useless suffering caused by other people's bad ideas. A lot of women living in today's financial disaster could use her as a role model as we suffer in the financial hardship brought to us by the stupid men elected to care for us. Renee totally deserved her award.
man, that last part--"They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say 'Shit, it's raining!'"--it makes me cry every time. she really is incredible. i love this movie.
@Outinsider And no disrespect or anything, but Kidman didn't really give a full leading performance. I think her role can be considered lead, but I don't think that she carried it from start to finish like many leading performances do. If that's what you were trying to say. I'm just trying to have a friendly debate.
@outinsider Yes, but I think that it should be reconized by performance alone. Like, if someone recreates a role they did on stage, their performance should be judged by the performance alone, not if they had done it before. I thought that Julianne gave a very subtle performance and even though she didn't have a lot of dramatic moments, she had a lot to do internally
@TheSuppActress Oh that's an interesting year! Ingrid was great. Quite great, actually. But I haven't seen Double Indeminity yet, so I'm not sure if Ingrid will still be my pick. Did you see my profile on Signourney?
@oscarlover100 Oh, ha. Well, I really liked Crawford's performance and I think she'll be your pick! Could you make a video for Olivia Dehavilland in The Heiress?
@outinsider Well, when I watched this scene again, I thought Zellweger did a little better, but it's just too over done. What did you think of her competition?
@outinsider I thought she was good, but I felt that Julianne Moore gave a performance for the ages. One of the best I've seen. What did you think of her?
I saw Far From Heaven and Julianne Moore gave a great performance, but its conventional, already recognized. The Academy recongized Dorothy Malone for Written On The Wind, and even though she was against the type of the usual Sirk films, the main female character didn't get recognized because she isn't doing anything much, and a leading female needs to have much to do. Does this make sense?
Don't pay attention to that IDIOT outinsider. He thinks every Oscar, no matter of what convenience, was deserved. If that's no an idiot, i don't know what is.
and you think anyone pays attention to your wack ass?
and if i needed anymore proof you're a complete DUMBASS, wtf does Julianne moore in far from heaven have to do with dorothy malone in written on the wind? my guess is you've never seen ffh and since you think the academy is always write, its pointless to argue with you.
I get more responses than you do, and people respond to me more positively and constructively. All I am saying is that if it a role similar to a previous role recognized, then it won't get recognized. At least I know how to argue critically, you just insult people who disagree with you and get all white trash Jerry Springer on their ass.
Having watched The Reader, and being personally affected by Kate Winslet's performance, I can say that it was richly deserved. I understand that you are trying to have a friendly debate. That's great you want to keep it friendly. I do too, but I haven't been getting your responses in my emails and all I have been getting is BitchErica1's tirades.
@outinsider Oh, I really liked her too. But I think that Anne Hathaway should have won. I thought she created a real, honest character who was very unlikeable, but I felt a real connection with her. What did you think of her performance?
I felt that if Anne went deeper or at least offered something really challenging to play, the Award might be hers. The Judy Garland biopic might be her best bet.
Well, they are what they are every year. I'm in the theatre profession, and I know how hard all actors work, and that the Academy in the acting categories are voted on by the Actor's Branch for which the other branches follow suit, via by their peers. I will have to see the nominees and see what their peers see.
HOW THE FUCK IS DOROTHY MALONE'S CHARACTER LIKE JULIANNE MOORE'S?
That is the question, but obviously you don't know how to answer it (and you probably haven't even seen it anyways. but since you think the academy is always right then you probably shouldn't watch it anways. i'm guessing you just love sandra bullock in blind side too....fucking dumbass.
I cannot respond to a question unless the person states it in a respectful, dignified, intelligent, and educated manner. Unfortunately, you don't qualify in neither of those categories, so why bother?
If you knew anything about acting, you would know that actors do not lie, they embody a character as a human being. If I had to play you, all I would have to study was a rapid dog on a leash.
Renee deserves every Oscar there is :)

I felt they left strong impressions. But Zellweger was clearly defined in her short time on screen. That helps a lot when distinguishing.

@outinsider Off-topic, but how would you rank the 2002 Best Actress nominees?

Nicole Kidman number one of course. She dived into Virginia Woolf like a swimmer in a pool.
