  • This version of song is awesome.

    Big,big Metallica fan ;)

  • Awesomness.

  • One of the few songs of my life !!!!!

  • I don't get this version. The original made a lot of sense, but now this awesome hard rock/metal song is like some kind of angry lounge music. This singer looks fucking weird too. Metallica should control their intellectual property a little bit tighter.

  • @izaakbenjamin Troll. :D

  • I <3 the song :D

  • My music is black metal but This is something wordless ! NICK CAVE!!!

    Pozdrav za Sokce....

  • Awesome song. Personally I like James Hetfield's voice better, but this is still great!

  • Metallica funkin` blows

  • ok first of all metallica sang this song in tribute to this guy. second its an opinion which version is better. personally i love metallica to the dick haha but hey this song is origionally by this guy so this version has to be better even though i like metallicas version better remember metallica did this song becuase of this guy remember that people!!!! METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA!!!!!!!!

  • if anyone thinks the metallica version is better.....then you are perceived as a small town hillbilly redneck.....that is all

  • @kingtroll23 nothing like making overreaching prejudice comments through the internet. nick cave's version is purer, a little more disjointed and erratic, metallica's is darker. liking one over the other doesn't make you a redneck.

  • @kingtroll23

I totally agree with you ... NICK IS A FUCKING MAN FOR THIS THINGS !!!

  • I love it how this song kind of makes it emo and depressed while James makes it sexy, romantic, and mysterious. Both rock! This song is to hear when you're sad...kinda cheers you up! While Metallica's is to hear when you are in the need of something romantic...it really makes you swoon! :D

  • Combine this dude and Ian Astbury and you have Danzig :P

  • Winningest song ever. It's not a bad thing that Metallica covered it. Not a patch on Cave imo, but if people prefer that, good for them. Maybe they'll listen to a bit more Bad Seeds in future, and spread the good news.

  • no offence to any hardcore N.Cave fans out there but imo Hetfield's(Metllica) voice fits so much better in that song!

  • @steveharrismetalgod a cover cant better suit the song. you clearly havent understood the song. which is fine but the whole point is that the only person that suits the song is the person that wrote and sung it.. metallica's version is a version hence why their version would suit their style since thats what a cover is a reconstruction of an original song in your own style. therefore the original suits nick cave and the cover version suits metallica

  • @razmataz13drums OK, so how do you explain songs writen purely by songwriters for other artists?

Anyone could sing the song and give it any style, interpretation or meaning. The original artists vision for a song cant be the only one, the correct one or even the best one. Its all subjective.

  • @foulplay99 well said, thank you

  • @steveharrismetalgod

That cover is fucking abysmal. It only serves to remind people of how much Metallica sucks.

  • BTW sang by nick cave totally sux

  • @walk3r1980

wrooooong answer ! Princes of Darkness is way better ....

  • Five Finger Death Punch ruined the song Bad Company but Metallica did not ruin this song they actually attracted people to it. I'm sure more than half of you people bitching never heard this before Metallica did it. They were paying homage to Nick Cave.

  • just wondering why you guys are arguing about which version is better, thet are in effect the same damn song! So do us all a favor and just shut up so you can listen to the fucking song. BTW, both versions of this song kick ass!

  • @TheHeadHead1 for me personally it's not about which version is better but metallica's great cover led that me to Nick's fantastic origional.

  • *sigh*........so cool !

  • so good......................................

  • Good God, the LYRICS to this fucking song. Chilling.

I'm like.. really terrified and turned on at the same time. I feel like he understands my secret rape fantasies, lol. I need some pearls to clutch.

  • this song is shit metallica version is soo better obviously :|

  • I watched this stoned..wow

  • Metallica's version is better than this

  • "....with his straining sex in his jumping paw"

    awesome.

  • I'm begining to think people like Marliyin Manson based their stuff off of his ideas

  • They should create a special music genre for this man

  • Metallica's version just sounds like some egocentric sleazebag baiting some foolish chick. The instrumentation though is pretty cool.

This original version is much more mysterious, haunting and darker- a desperate sex-crazed loner yearning to be known to the point of controlling others- just listen to how Nick howls "I've got no choice............"

  • wow this was awesome...i love the spelling out of Loverman alot more in this than metallicas way. its more sensual and creepy. yet awesome and beautiful....

  • I first heard the Metallica version in 1998 and I heard this version...less than a half hour ago. Both are fantastic. The Metallica one was well performed and produced and str8 forward. But theres more to this now that i'm listening to it, an extra depth to it. It truely is an experience, It's ....darkly psychedelic. It's disorienting and haunting yet beautiful. But that's a good thing. Can't fault the boys for their cover though. They're Metallica they should sound like metallica not Nick Cave.

  • @EcceNecro callate negro

  • Metallica did a way better job at this. It Seems to flow more with Metallica, James Growl makes it seem better, This verson sounds messy and a junk band. Could be why they sold 250 million records less than Metallica haha

  • @TheLamasterpiece Well Nick Cave is more influential than them (I mean its credit to him that metallica chose to cover it), and commercial sucess doesn't mean they're better. I hate people like you who fucking love metal and diss everything else. Its silly.

  • I agree but I also hate ppl who diss bands just because they are popular. So if that is true fuck the both of you lol.

  • @undericesinger No waay ! It annoys me as well when people do that ! I just listen to what I like, not what I think I should like.

  • @TheLamasterpiece ....there is NO WAY metallica did a better job....this is the original version......it has WAY more soul....the medtallica version sounds like american hicks emulating someone who has soul. Clearly you are impressed only by production crispness.....that makes you a DOUCHE....FUCKING POP VCULTURE DICK SUCKER

  • @kingtroll23 Metallica did a much better job...They sound better, they -are- better. When Hetfield sings, he means what he is singing. Metallica is amazing, don't ever think different.

  • @Calltoopower nonsense.. Nick cave eats guys like Hetfield for breackfast.

  • @MephProduction Ahahaha. That's very funny, since hetfield would probably kick his ass. But that wouldn't happen, since hetfield has alot of respect for Nick Cave, wich is the reason why they made that cover in the first place. You prefer his version? Fine, but don't say stupid shit like that. It's all a matter of taste and opinion.

  • @Djman66666 I don't recall preferring any version in my previous comment. Point is Cave would have Hetfield for breakfast.. or have had already. At least Metallica didn't try to copy it but their gimmick kinda cheapens the song a bit,

  • @Calltoopower ......you are clearly a middle america whitetrash redneck.....where are you from?.....arkansas? alabama? ohio? virginia?

  • @kingtroll23 dude...he cant sing

  • hes in my country soon and im freaking broke these days, theyre probably sold out by now anyway..

    Cave is a hero

  • Wow. I've never though of Nick Cave attractive, but in this vid, he makes me weak at the knees with his shirt ripping and all...

  • The version of Nick Cave and the version of Metallica are very good but I prefer the Metallica Version

  • Helluva lot heavier than metallica's.

  • The first time any wanna-be musical artist picks up an instrument or puts pen to paper, this is exactly what they should be working towards. Pure fucking emotion in every single word spoken and every chord played. Pure genius.

  • i like metallica and nick cave's version equally.

  • I dont expect everyone to love this so fuck them this is raw and dirty and its put very smoothly and spoke in whispers and it roar with anger and passion. If you hate this and if you don't like it then simply fuck off don't waste your life talking walking in shit buddy

  • I would rather watch a dog shit-out a peach seed sideways......I like some of his stuff but, this is just awful! Sorry, no disrespect......

  • Metallica is just the cartoon of a rockstar,Nick cave and his band are the real shit.

  • @ksaeed407 And I assume you're going to back up that statement with some reasons and logic to explain how he "sucks big time"? Nick Cave is one of the most poetic, expressive, intense and dynamic performers of his generation and there are more than plenty of examples of him on Youtube. And you, coming onto a video to hurl a baseless insult about him? Grow up.

  • @ksaeed407 yes, he bought all those millions and millions of albums himself.

  • lol metallica

  • - From how terrible this song is I don't get how Metallica came to 'cover' it. Much like "Turn The Page" and "Mercyful Fate" they heavily modified existing content and made it listenable. I'm glad diehards love Nick Cave but fuck this is terrible.

  • I don't get this guys... In the Metallica cover videos every comment is about "Metalliaca sucks" or "Fuck Metallica!" But in this video is "Metallica rocks"... get over yourselves! Metallica is an excellent metal band, Nick Cave is a Marvelous singer and composer... But they are completely different, don't compare them...

  • @RAAMerisima lol metallica hasnt been a metal band in almost 2 decades... but your point is valid.

except the excellent and metal part.

bob rock doesnt produce metal... he produces pop

  • @watchoosay I don't care the bloody genre... Ok, an excelent non metal band... And yes, I consider them excelent, that`s my opinion

  • @RAAMerisima indeed. and its the opinion of a new generation!

    ...

    ...

    ...

    of deaf people.

  • Metallica versions is fuckin better

  • @Orionesis so where does this leave santa claus and the kiddie fiddlers ?

  • Version by Metallica is ridiculously better.

  • @Calltoopower how dare this site check on me

  • @TeflonMaster Apparently a difference of opinion results in your post being marked as spam, which, to me, is not only indicative of a small mind, but bullshit!

That said, I hate the Metallica version, but I do take a small bit of umbrage to that remark. But that's ok, we can disagree, and hopefully do so without being disagreeable.

  • the video is very scary!!! it freaks me OUT!

  • your grammar is atrocious. Anyway, I am not going to fill up the comments for this wonderful song with an argument with a complete stranger.

  • LOL What a clever retort.

  • Dood can just barely sing. Obviously he survives on his looks. Hard for me to respect that.

  • @CaptainDummyTalk go fuck yourself, faggot.

  • @CaptainDummyTalk What do you mean exactly? By whose standards? Yours? If so, a matter of opinion is par for the course. Though the snark about his looks is a neat way to dismiss him without actually examining and exploring his work.

I am curious to know whom you would consider a good singer.

  • im one of the least ignorant people however this is the internet so u hardly hav an idea of who i am. im jsut expressing an opinion and also making a wee joke about all the shirts nick takes off in the video. i guess iv im ignorant then you have no sense of humour.

  • great song

  • I didn't even know there was a Metallica cover of this.

  • @ToddlerFondler69 Yeah on Garage Inc. on the first disc.

  • @metalgod91zb so your a kylie fan then root toot toot

  • im sorry but i like metallicas better just my opinion

  • number one- this "version" is the best its the original and metallica are crap.

number 2- how many shirts do you think nikc went through in this vid

number 3- i agree, not the same without Blixa n mick and how does it sound like the doors? very interesting perspective im a big doors fan.

    number 4-metallica suck.

  • @Gpoet6 You are beyond the where I thought the limits of ignorance lay.

  • @Gpoet6 ok, all the things that you say are saying me that you dont know nothing about music. You are so stupid man

  • Comment removed

  • Like most people I imagine i heard the Metallica cover first. Comparing the two is a bit silly I reckon, this one's more animalistic and violent, the Metallica one's a lot more brooding and perhaps has a bit more tension. "Insurmountably better"? That's not true at all.

Also is it just me or did Metallica add another verse. 'There's a devil laying by your side?' Not in this version. No big deal though, it fits well. Definitely going to be looking into some more Nick Cave though anyway.

  • @cyurisich Oh--you definitely should check out more NC if you haven't already. Boys Next Door (not to be confused w/that weird ass glam group by the same name), The Birthday Party, The Cavemen, The Bad Seeds, Grinderman...lots to choose from!

  • LOVE this song... & I also really enjoy Martin Gore's cover!

  • i personally am glad all these kids on here keep going on about how good metallica is and how bad nick caves singing is, etc etc. its just like a francis bacon painting, or like john keats poetry when he was still alive, some people just dont "get it" and thats fine with me, it wouldnt be adventurous and genuine if everyone understood it.

  • I love this song. It hurts.

  • I just listened to the Metalica version.

LOL, theirs is such a hollow, thin, lame mule of a version!

Nick's shoes are a little too big for Metallica to fill.

  • Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are a seething bucket of art. It'd take a heavy lid to keep a good song in!

Metallica are just OK sometimes, it takes a bomb to get a good song out of them!

  • metallica version is better

  • metallica so kicks this versions ass! hhaahhaahah this one is so bad lol

  • ok nevermind, this verson is pretty good too, u just need to listen to it 4 a bit

  • y does this scare me, but i am live love with metallica's verson?

  • woah its like the doors

  • Not bad, but I like the oomph Metallica puts to their version of it. James voice is much better suited for the content of the song.

  • Nicks vocals are amazing!

  • 60 dislikes??? :O who would dare??

  • @flioutsiou bonehead metallica fans?

  • @flioutsiou Soulless sad sods...

  • @flioutsiou i would and did this song is unimaginative and at some points uninteligable. the video wasn't so bad.

  • I shed a tiny tear of shame that the metallica cover was my introduction to this song, This is insurmountably better.

  • @Hithkano I will say it again, Metallica is amazing. This is a different take on it. This one made me want to recoil in fear. Metallica's made me want to bang my head and lose brain cells! :D

  • @Calltoopower Dont get me wrong i love metallica, i grew up on metallica, i agree that its a different take, for me though I apreciate the contrast that gives this version the atmosphere, it just seems to work better, IMO

  • @ArtQuakedoom95x2 XD Oh my god, that's the funniest thing I've EVER heard!

  • awesome

  • cezarlamaro JAMES IS 1000 BETTER

  • Pure genius.

  • I love how his "master plan" is to "take off her dress"

  • I've always been fascinated by this guy and somehow his intensity reminds me of Jim Morrisson....Jim or some of the wild guys from the sixties....Thankx to Satan for givin us Nick Cave.....\m/

  • how do they get away with it?

  • This one is way better than Metallica's version, or should I say Metallipop???

  • i'm in favor of the metallica version

  • Luv this guy he not only embodies SEX,DRUGS N' ROCK N' ROLL but he is also truly THE DARK GENIUS......

  • This original version i think is much better than metallica's version. Its more passionate, creative and artistic

  • wow, the metallica version is a lot better in my opinion

  • Intense roller coaster of a song. great video. I love how "n" stands for "nowin' " and "n' y"

  • metallicas version is better for me

  • Birthday Party are still one of the grt bands of all time.NickCave has it all!

  • This version seems messy. I like the metallica version way better

  • @captaind81 metallicas cover is mediocre. they couldnt understood the essence of this song. i bet that cover would be decent, if they had made it at least 7 years before the garage inc. garage days covers are well done, as they have the original style of metallica, but also are faithfull to the original feeling of the songs. sounds "messy" cos thats the way its supossed to sound, like a controlled demolition.

  • why would metallica even attempt this??? Nick is thee loverman.

  • I like stuff.

    This is original.

    Fuck Metallica:)

  • never knew metallica took this song from him! hahaha

  • I barely can take it, there is too much emotions in it :(

  • @micol018 youi need help

  • @whitenoiseization actually, O yes I do, need help, I'm trying to eveluate my college diploma, but those horribles from my school always forget to sent something to company that do that kind of things, I called them three times and again they forgot something, by any chance Do You have any advice ?(

  • great song and fantastic waird exquisite video! love it.

  • When I first heard this song I thought it was either Tom Waits or Danzig (2 completely different sounds, I know).

  • So after reading all these comments I just went and looked at the Metallica version; it's rubbish, such vapid 'aggression', they sound like kids compared to the Bad Seeds.

  • Let Love In - such a fantastic album, and some great b-sides as well especially Sail Away..

  • I think Nick is great. I,m old school though, so you guys should check out The Birthday Party if you want to see where this came from. Also his new stuff from Grinderman, if you like it grungier.

  • I like more the version of Metallica's

  • @SpookyVid is true still a nick cave song . . . but metallica do a better job in this song . . . anyway it's only a opinion . . .

  • That would be a legitimate opinion if they didn't have millions of fans and respect them and sign stuff after every show. They also play a wide array of genres and don't take shit from ur opinion. They have a loyal fan base because of this. Look deeper and you will see there is more to them. I love this version too. I love all types of music. Be less of a cunt.

  • I heart you forever. So hard. Just for this.

  • I absolutely agree with u!

  • @cfvcfvcfvcfvcfvcfvcf no, it's just different.

  • to me..this is the best point in their career ..no Warren, blixa and mick, and everything was better...dunno-that's the way I feel.. L-O-V-E-R-M-A-N <3

  • Wielki Szacun..ale przerzucam się na cover Metallici ;)

  • stoned as heck

  • hell yeah

    \m/

  • Metallica should die in pain because of messing this amazing piece.

  • Let Love In warped my mind when I first heard it.

I was unable to stop listening to it.

So much to take in and so many things that I have

come to know that are true.

  • @Darsidus , lol, this is not a version. This is the original. Drunden stalker? cool.

  • That would make it the original version then would it not? ;) I'm just saying I don't particularly care for this. Compared to other Nick Cave songs this sounds like he just wrote a song, but then could care less about the actual recording. Great lyrics, but he ruins his own song this way. He should've put some more emotion into it other than drunken-sounding slurs and his weird yelling of the chorus.

  • Version is the interpretation of something in a new form. You could say "original version", but its a contradiction. The original piece, is not really a version.

The drunken-sounding voice is the way you interpret it, sorry, not the way it is. The song is dark, he sings it like he isnt human at all. He puts a lot of "emotion" into it, just not the same fake and exaggerated way James hetfield sings for his adolescent crowd.

  • I love Nick Cave but I like some of Metallicas tunes too. Why limit yourself to one type of music? Choose whats works for you from each type.

  • Wow, stop being stupid,

  • @xreddragonx It's an opinion, get over it.

  • Comment removed

  • stop hating you bitches:

    you are lame,

    you are blind,

    you are dirty

    and you're poor

  • I love Martin Gore's version

  • This is better , but i like Metallica cover too man stop fighting it's music...

  • @tatornoob Yeah, a bit before emos. Also, I don't know many of those sort of artists that write a whole album about murder, it's normally how much their life sucks. It's cool because you get the sense that he really could just as easily be a murderer. Sometimes disturbing isn't bad. But yeah, whatever floats your boat.

  • nick cave is nick cave period , how can you cover the most original song writer out there ! Metallica are pretencious wankers and not worthy to kiss nick caves arse

  • so true man,

  • exactLy.
