I'm pretty impressed. Nice crack on the snare and pretty boomy kick. Bet those would sound phenomenol mic'd. And Deftones have gotta be my favorite band right now...you hear any of the new album?
DRUMMERS! I have a decision that I need help with. I have a choice between Sonor Force 3007's and Mapex Pro M's. Both are maple, the mapex costs a couple hundred more AND the Sonor comes with hardware. Which would be the better (and longer lasting) choice? Please respond, I really need help choosing.
@dragonman0000001 Not sure if you know this, but Sonor's Force drums are built in the same factory as Mapex (known as KHS). They use a lot of the same manufacturing processes and tools, but yield more or less the same sound. (When comparing the 3007 to a Pro M). I'd say go for the Sonor, since some people argue the quality is a bit better, it comes with hardware, and it's cheaper.
@dragonman0000001 sonar is much better than mapex. better for travelling, movement, rythmetric and bounce. mapex is expensive and just makes you look good on presentation nothing more.
yeah man. too loose on them tom heads.. bass and snare sound fine Love the sound of that A custom of course. play with a little more conviction overall. good to make it a habit even if your not with a buncha loud band mates--no more feather playing!
Haha of course this video was made to display your playing! How can I tell? You do the same fills that every other drummer tries to do, and that simply bore everyone, the hole shuffle beat and double bass drum licks with the toms. But don't worry, it's human nature that we try to show ourselves off a lot, in this case, in a poor way.
this video wasn't made to display my playing, it is a demo of how the Pro M sounds. I admit they sound nasty here, but I was using stock heads and a shitty camera microphone. Chill out bro... why don't you post a video if you can do better?
hey dude! im looking for a new drum set.. and i found this kit .. please tell me.. is this a good kit for the price? thankx alot :) i will apreciate your opinion
You know, I don't know the exact size. Right now it is packed away. But LP only offered Ice Bells in two sizes. It is the smaller one. 6 or 6.5 maybe. Glad you like it. Did you see my video of the bell I made from the cracked cymbal?
yeah i know the stock heads suck. But I sold this kit a while back. I never got a chance to re-head it. Oh well. As far as the snare, everybody has their own tastes. Most people crank the hell out of their snares. I liked having this one tuned down a little. It had great sensitivity and that's what I was trying to display in this video.
i like that metronome you have, that's actually smart hahaha i like your kit, but i like pearl more, just because this kit sounds like a studio kit, and it's not really loud!
What was the depth of the bass drum? Cause I'm looking to get a Pro M classic four piece. The one I'm looking at is I think 22" wide and 20" deep. I love a long, booming bass drum. And those stock heads sound better than I expected. Except the snare..
The bass is indeed 22" wide and 20" deep, but the extra depth really doesn't show once you muffle it (which most people, myself included, prefer) I've played bass drum that are only 14" deep that will shake the walls.
Well, I usually just use a Remo Muff'l ring that you put under the head on the bearing edge.. I've noticed a big difference in the longer bass drums, but the only ones I played weren't muffled, so I'm sure you're right. But I also love the look of the long bass drum.
If you like a booming bass drum I'd suggest looking into some 24" models. I'm playing a Kirchhoff 24" x 20" acrylic one, and I love it. Lots of attack, and plenty of sustain if you want it. If not, a t shirt on each head fixes it.
I have a pro-m kit and I'm using aquarian preformance 2 heads and I cannot get a good floor tom sound. I love too many overtones, even with the built in dampener on the head.
What size is you floor tom? I use Performance II's on my 16 and it sounds GREAT even with a stock reso head, but I will admit my 18 can sound shaky at times. Try putting a dapender ring on top of the head, like remo rings... aquarian offers rings too, I use those on all my toms.
Thanks. The Pro M shell pack was only $780 for all the drums you see. The cymbals and hardware are from previous kits and have been acquired over the years. I guess the total for everything to see here is around $2700.
I do. This kit was an experiment for me. I had never owned/played a Mapex kit before this. Also the sizes were new to me, I had never played a 20x22 kick or 16x18 floor tom. The quality of the Pro M kits was top-notch. Great maple shells. I loved the finish. It came with a bonus Black Panther snare drum. The only thing I didn't like was the factory heads, but that is the case with a lot of kits in the intermediate price range.
basically I'm playing a repeating 5 note phrase. Flam, kick, right, left, kick. When I take it over to the toms I (tired to) invert some of the accents, then I switched to a triplet pattern of right, left, kick.
traditional finish. I haven't seen them offered in brilliant finish, but then again they might be a special order item. I love mine, but I would like a set of Zildjian A Custom Mastersounds too...
I agree you aren't having fun, maybe it's cause you have to keep count with your snare, instead of enhancing with your snare. Sounds very generic. and human.
Wow ur a great drummer, but man u don't look like ur having much fun. The whole point of the drums was to have an awesome beat and have the most fun while making it. ROCK ON MAN!!!!!
If you mean the Ice Bell mounted ontop of the ride...it was free to me. I think they sell for around $40 normally. If you are talking about the HHX Stage Ride it was about $180.
I have never liked "studio rings". The farthest I will go is some moongel. Studio Rings take away far too much tone and liveliness. Thanks for the tip though.
these are big sizes so the natural tuning range is lower than most standard size drum sets, this is about as low as I would go with them. But I did crank the reso heads up a notch or two with pleasing results. I should say I prefer an open, boomy sound rather than a tighter sound with less sustain, but you can tune that way if you choose.
I am getting a set of these in a 10,12,14floor,16 floor combo and switch between a low rumble tuning for rock and then work up to a swing/bonham style tuning which is higher. I read this evening a review of the Meridian series which is replacing the Pro-m in Modern Drummer and they said it favored only one style of tuning. The guy didn't change the heads to really put the drums through the paces.
do you like your hi hats I'm thinking of buying some and I play in a church band so will they be too quiet, too loud, and what type of music do you find them most useful for?
I do like them. They aren't a bad cymbal at all and they were a HUGE upgrade from my old B8 Pros. They are darker sounding, They aren't the loundest I've played but they work well in any style.
I've tried both side by side and the Pro M had more of what I wanted in a drum. That being said the M-birch is a great sounding kit too with excellent finish. But the deal I got was so crazy I simply couldn't pass the Pro M up.
Be aware. Both the M-Birch and Pro M are discontinued as of this year. Now Mapex has the Meridian series. This time the Meridian birch has the same hoops as the Meridian Maple which plays a big part in the sound. Plus new finishes.
depends on what you sound you like. These are geared more towards louder rock/funk styles. Being a pro level series, they are definetly worth it. Sabian tends to be the cheaper of the big three.
yo for the snare (not the panther) was that the 7"by14" snare and the mapex pro m classic, cause when i look on google for the mapex pro m classic it shows a 4-piece, i was just wondering if you added another rack tom? don't mean to sound stupid, i am just really curious and that snare sounds amazing!
Thanks. You don't sound stupid that's why I'm here is for others to see and hear what I'm using and ask about it. The kit is called the Pro M Classic Plus configuration. It includes 12 and 13 inch rack toms, 16 and 18 inch floor toms, the 20x22 virgin kick, and a 7x14 snare. Plus the Panther.
Starting this year the Pro M series is discontinued and replaced by the Meridian Maple which has the same shells but with new lugs and ITS mounts.
ok, thanks, i am trying to find a drumkit with one rack tom, 2 floor toms, a nice deep snare and a short bass, do you know of any brands that have that presently?
ddrum offers the 1 up 2 down and deep snare but with a 20x22 kick. You can get the 1 up 2 down from anybody really...you'll probaby have to get a deeper snare down the road.
thanks...it's actually a deftones song called Rx Queen. The drum beat to From Yesterday is nearly identical....maybe their drummer ripped it off of Abe.
Thanks...I actually sold that kit about a month back. But you're right the toms needed new heads. I wasn't use the big sizes on this kit but oh well. Hey I checked your videos...Placebo is the shizzz. And I saw you favorited a Jay Dickson video...he is nuts. I wish he still had his older videos on youtube. Peace and Merry Christmas.
Yeah I needed some fast cash and this kit had to go. I kept the black panther snare though. I can't believe Tama isn't going to make them anymore...they must have something rediculously good to go in its place.
Thanks but no thanks. I never did like to use the sound rings because they take away tooooo much echo and vibration. They make the kit sound cheap. However I do use Moongel to get some of those overtones under control...just not in thise video.
those are such small cymbals. what size is that ride!?

I do like them. They aren't a bad cymbal at all and they were a HUGE upgrade from my old B8 Pros. They are darker sounding, They aren't the loundest I've played but they work well in any style.

thanks

Chad smith uses those hi hats, and he plays hard rock/funk

im seriously considering a mapex m-birch kit, would you put the extra money and get one of these, a pro m or stick with the m birch?
craggmire 3 years ago
I've tried both side by side and the Pro M had more of what I wanted in a drum. That being said the M-birch is a great sounding kit too with excellent finish. But the deal I got was so crazy I simply couldn't pass the Pro M up.
Be aware. Both the M-Birch and Pro M are discontinued as of this year. Now Mapex has the Meridian series. This time the Meridian birch has the same hoops as the Meridian Maple which plays a big part in the sound. Plus new finishes.

what hi-hat do you have?
kortedfranela 3 years ago
the hi-hat is a 14" Sabian AAX-celerator. Complete setup details of all the cymbals and drums are in the description.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
are the aax.celerator worth it?
kortedfranela 3 years ago
depends on what you sound you like. These are geared more towards louder rock/funk styles. Being a pro level series, they are definetly worth it. Sabian tends to be the cheaper of the big three.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
i've read comments about the aax-celerator saying that it sounds bad when its closed.
is this true?
kortedfranela 3 years ago
listen for yourself....don't pay attention to what other dudess say.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
Lol cool metronome style...tucked in the hat
Nice kit and great playing, just lose the double kick :P
patricebrisebois19 3 years ago
yo for the snare (not the panther) was that the 7"by14" snare and the mapex pro m classic, cause when i look on google for the mapex pro m classic it shows a 4-piece, i was just wondering if you added another rack tom? don't mean to sound stupid, i am just really curious and that snare sounds amazing!
drummerliger678 3 years ago
Starting this year the Pro M series is discontinued and replaced by the Meridian Maple which has the same shells but with new lugs and ITS mounts.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
ok, thanks, i am trying to find a drumkit with one rack tom, 2 floor toms, a nice deep snare and a short bass, do you know of any brands that have that presently?
drummerliger678 3 years ago
ddrum offers the 1 up 2 down and deep snare but with a 20x22 kick. You can get the 1 up 2 down from anybody really...you'll probaby have to get a deeper snare down the road.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
ok thanks for the info man!...
drummerliger678 3 years ago
Oo nice :) Did i hear a bit of From Yesterday in there?
ManicStreetPeaches 3 years ago
thanks...it's actually a deftones song called Rx Queen. The drum beat to From Yesterday is nearly identical....maybe their drummer ripped it off of Abe.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
Was that a bit of Deftones i heard in there?
Benjomatic 3 years ago
'twas
deftones 4 life
ironcobra8 3 years ago
tune up your toms mate, anyway, nice drumming!
F1CO 3 years ago
Thanks...I actually sold that kit about a month back. But you're right the toms needed new heads. I wasn't use the big sizes on this kit but oh well. Hey I checked your videos...Placebo is the shizzz. And I saw you favorited a Jay Dickson video...he is nuts. I wish he still had his older videos on youtube. Peace and Merry Christmas.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
Oh you've sold them? how come?
And yeah, by your nick i can tell your an iron cobra fan, they are no longer being produced from 1.1. .. atleast i heard that
p.s. all the best you too man!
F1CO 3 years ago
Yeah I needed some fast cash and this kit had to go. I kept the black panther snare though. I can't believe Tama isn't going to make them anymore...they must have something rediculously good to go in its place.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
You mean Mapex.
daveysindaclub 3 years ago
nice kit...u should get some studio ring's, they just sit on the toms and snare and take away the vibration and eco... i recomend them!
clitlicjon 3 years ago
Thanks but no thanks. I never did like to use the sound rings because they take away tooooo much echo and vibration. They make the kit sound cheap. However I do use Moongel to get some of those overtones under control...just not in thise video.

DrummerMatt93 3 years ago
I love the crack of the snare! :) Great sounding kit.
craycpanda 3 years ago
what exactly are you playing starting at 0:49 ?
drumsticks135 3 years ago
It's a linear beat taken from the Deftones song called "RX Queen." It also closely resembles the drums to "From Yesterday" by 30 Seconds to Mars.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
hey man whats up are those the pro birch or the maple...they sound "huge"
religiousMurder 3 years ago
thanks....The Pro M is maple.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
i dont know why but i liked the sound of your old kit better
EMBERSxLEFTxBURNING 3 years ago
me too :) I would never expect them to sound as good as a Masters....also the Pro M sizes were too big for my style. Both are great kits though.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
why did you get mapex then? not to say that mapex is bad in any way
EMBERSxLEFTxBURNING 3 years ago
I wanted something different...plus I got them for more than 50% off.
ironcobra8 3 years ago
How?
