  • I went to this last night and they actually had a broadway performer as Father. Dallyn Vail Bayles. Such a beautiful production. I loved every second of it.

  • I don't get it... The guy who plays God can obviously sing all the notes, but he's flat all over the place... I could sing it better and I have a lower voice than him.

  • i like their modern version of it. father is fantastic

  • We're doing this Musical for our school next semester, honest opinion, did you really like doing this muscial?

  • @Cletzenbougen I wasn't in THIS production, but i played Cain years ago, when my high school did this show. And, still after all these years, it is in my opinion the most fun i have ever had with a single show.

  • @Cletzenbougen My school is doing this musical now...and i know this is an old post I was just wondering what you eventually thought of it?

  • DON't sing with father!

  • whys he waving his arms around?

  • 1)some very good choreography

2)the actor that played father, while not a bad singer, was casted wrong

3)the speaking portion towards the end of "let there be" should be said as a group. as should the whole perfect song. NO SOLOS!

4)you guys seriously couldn't hold that last note the whole time? its forgivable to sneak a short breath, but when over half of the storytellers VISIBLY take a gulp of air...

  • @bambam111992 wow, you're right

  • @bambam111992 Oh my God, calm down. It's a high school production.

  • @SuperCheese1223 so? every production should be treated with respect. it doesn't matter WHO does it, or WHERE it is done. if the actors treat it as 'just a high school production', that is exactly what they will have. But the production can grow into something much more, just by having the people involved treat it as a professionally done show. What i gave was constructive criticism, designed to help those involved, and those possibly getting involved to improve themselves and their performance.

  • FATHER has a really stereotypical teenaged voice. not bad of course.. just totally doesnt fit the character. but thats not really his fault he was cast as father.

  • Can I please please brag on my director and fellow cast members just a bit? I'm in this show in Oklahoma City and our director has done an INCREDIBLE job making this show amazing--like cutting out the cheesy lines like"Whoa, that's bright" without cutting important stuff. About this one--sorry Father--ya kinda sound in pain this ENTIRE SONG! Especially the word "snails" LOL

  • u cut the line 'thanks for the help in scrubbing it out' 2 so cheesy lol

  • Er, no-one cares?

  • your whole ensemble singing sounds really good and sharp :] but... in ours.. we are having father flying in from the top.. :]

  • Our school is doing this now and wow this father is good. Our father sounds kind of similar. But ours hasn't had actual vocal lessons so he does amazing as he is.

  • we did better than you guys !!!!

  • Well ok my grup isn't that good but we are good! our father has an ego issue

  • Well its no sondheim! lol! i just think if they got a good script writter in then it would have been good. when we did it we cut a lot of stuff out like Eve making stroodle for lunch in Eden [WTF?!?!?]

I mean even wicked has some painful stuff in it, eg: Glinda:Whats in this punch?

Fiyero: Apples and lemons and Pears

    Glinda: Oh my!

    LOL!

  • im confused about the jeans thing

  • didn't u know? angels wear jeans. it's all the rage in heaven.

  • i would have to agree with addison1daniel2rose4 he does go flat numerous times in this number.

  • ..Let there be what?

  • LIGHT!.... Whoa...thats bright!

  • I saw it in Beavercreek too! It was amazing and the best performance of it I have ever seen!

  • i saw this at my edta state thater conferance in ohio and beaver creek did it perfect

  • so did i

  • wow small world lol wish they would have recorded it

  • i love being able to see myself perform

  • The music is fab, theres just a crap script, the book is awful, lol.

Im not too keen on the cheoreography on this performance either........

but god has a brill voice

  • Ehh. Okay. Here's my beef with the book. It has it's moments. Ex - "Whoa, that's bright". That line should not exist. However, the thing that the book and music accomplish together is really connecting the first act characters to the second. The parallelisms between characters and repetition of musical motifs and dialogue really give the themes more significance. The book isn't perfect. However, it manages to accomplish the things that are necessary for the story to be powerful.

  • lol i love that line 'whoa that's bright' its a bit of comic relief to let the audience know that its not going to be a 'gothic' show.

  • Oh my goodness. Whoever is playing Father is amazing.

  • no he isn't.....

  • I completely agree with you. He is flat and is way to hyper to be Father

  • your american correct, im english, just to make a fact lol.

I love the coreography, its far out, but i just didnt like the fact that all the cast were wearing MODEREN CLOTHES. in our version, we all had Before christ clothing, i just didnt like it because of that

  • To sum this up:

I was disappointed for my own reasons, and you got angry. I got worked up and said something :that could be: untrue. I think I have just reasons for what I said, I could have said it in a different context, and I apologize for doing so. Beyond that, I don't feel that I'm in the wrong.

  • *for not doing so

  • But I was angry because you were being mean/sarcastic, while you were angry because I was disappointed at the content of a show.

  • It wasn't just because you swore - the fact that you attacked my opinion and said God would love it added to that. God only appreciates things done to glorify Him. Taking a story from His word and adding bits to it that very well may or may not have actually happened doesn't fall into that category.

So I take back the 'obviously not a Christian' - I meant to say your actions didn't protray Christianity.

Of course you'd say, neither did mine. And that is true. (Running out of room)

  • No wait, I'm not. First of all, let me say this. I shouldn't have judged you so quickly-cussing doesn't make you a non-Christian...however; serving mass doesn't make you one.

If you know what I mean? But the thing is, when you got so angry at me because of my opinion, I freaked out. I was saying that I was very disappointed because it's such beautiful music, and now I couldn't watch it (not allowed/don't want to because of untrue content). Then you seemed very upset so I shot back.

  • I'm done.

  • Hey, I have an opinion, my goodness. I'm sorry if I offended you, but I happen to think that it's against the bible...it IS a great show...that's exactly why I'm so upset. Now I can't watch it. Alright? Don't attack me, please.

  • Seriously SFGAmfreak4life, it's a play. Considering the fact that we're "made in His image" I'm pretty sure God wouldn't mind if Christians liked Children of Eden. It's a kickass show, and I'm sure even God thinks it's great -_^ Don't take everything so literal <__< it can lead you the wrong way.

  • Well, obviously you wouldn't understand...you're not a Christian, since you swore in your comment.

  • Hate to break it to ya, but I am ^_^ I serve mass every Sunday in fact. Simply saying a wrong word doesn't disqualify me from being a Christian. To say that I'm "obviously not a Christian" is a false statement. To bear false witness against your neighbor ring a bell? Don't judge people before you get to know them. Foundational Moral Experience is to realize the sacredness and value in all human beings. So don't judge ppl before you get to know them. What about Forgiveness? -_^

  • Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Hypocrite. Plus bang up job confusing God with Muhammad!! ^_____^

  • DARN it!!!!!

I thought this would be okay for a Christian to like but it's not, since they show God...

Because in the bible it says not to give God an appearance or display Him or anything. DARN!

  • I think you're taking this a BIT too seriously

  • I don't.

  • You're getting Islam mixed with Christianity, minor mistake, lots of people do it. No worries ^_^

  • I saw this show at Ford Theater in DC and absolutely LOVED IT...

But I did not get the chills like i did watching this version!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE COE

  • I think they did a great job,if you know someone a little older that does opera cause he looks a little young but he still did good, but thats my opinion.

  • God LOVES pink

  • God could have had better rythem. He sped up in multiple places on his solos. (and i no i spelled it wrong)

  • Well first off, the guy who played Father sung his face off! (which is a good thing). I liked the choreography, but it could have been a little cleaner. I thought whoever did the costumes on the other hand should be tarred and feathered. But thats just my opinion :)

  • aw i miss this show terribly :(

  • GREAT performance! I'm doing this show too soon!

  • What? Too soon? Maybe you should put it off for a while until you are ready.

  • LOL i meant the other too as in "also"

  • :-)

Then you need to put a comma between the words...

as in, "I'm doing this show, too, soon!" or, rearrange the words, as in, "I'm soon doing this show, too!"

    regards,

    The self-appointed guardian of syntax.

  • "self-appointed guardian of syntax"!

    lol

  • "the self appointed guardian of syntax"!!

    lol

  • Well, correct syntax does make all the difference in the world as to whether or not your message is understood as you intended or how it is interpreted!

    Regards

    The Anointed One

    oops I mean, "Self-Anointed" One.

  • Looks good on the staging. I like the job you have made of this.

  • I'm in the play Children Of Eden.

  • same here.

i saw it about 3 or 4 years ago, but now that I'm in the show, I can understand and appreciate it a LOT better.

  • this musical has a really awesome score.

  • Good musical, just yesterday i went to my brothers university to see it, he got to play the part of Father, it was really well done

  • Where are the homonies? I know there is more than 2 parts written in the score because I directed it years ago.

  • do you mean harmonies?

  • You mean harmonies? It's written for SATB (with the occasional splitting of these into more than 5 or 6 parts). I have the piano conductors score if you want to message me.

  • You have the piano score? I'd like to hear more about that. Please message me.

  • This is Phenomenal. I was in CoE recently, and I was father. We did it in a round. This guy gave me my inspiration. If someone taped it, I'll try to put a clip or two up

  • It's Great but the music over powers the singers

  • what a fantastic show! it's now been over 20 years since it debuted....do i smell revival?

  • actually they are reviving it i recently met with jason robert brown who recentlyu talked to stephen shwartz and its in talking right now...they dont no exactly when its coming back but within the next 2 years probably way sooner

  • im doing this with a community theatre....soo much funn....we only have until april 17th to pull it all together.....

    only 8 performances....

  • love this musical soooooo much!

  • this is my school!!!

it was so good, i love nelie and yonatan!!

  • What an Amazing Chorus!!!!

  • Phenomenal!

  • i love coe! i wasjust in a production of coe.

  • Very nice. This is one of my favorite shows!

  • wow, they're american, i only just realised that! haha!

  • this is one of my favorite shows. it actually may be headed to Broadway! i hope it does. it's a little overdone, but it's great. this production is great. FATHER in particular can really sing...KUDOS to whoever was a part of this.

  • It has been on broadway....that why its released to companies for production...

  • actually it never has......it's been OFF-Broadway. and besides...shows don't need to be on broadway before they can be released to other companies.

  • im in this musical in november!

    its very good btw!

    x

  • even though i had a smaller auditorium we had a lot of scenery and it didn't look tacky, this looks so boring and i think the storytellers should have matched instead of wearing their street clothes

and it sounds like the person playing god rushes the song to much

  • Father as Ben Vereen!!

  • ahhhh yeah our theatre program has alot of people...kind of a big school.

  • Gosh the choreography was awsome! And so many people also. But father was a little to inmature hes to young and when he sings it sounds like pop music.but good job for a high school

  • this is one of my fav songs of this production. but when we performed it we had a female play the part of God and i liked it better that way

  • Oooooh! I better tell my director that. We're gonna be doing it next semester and we don't have very many boys. Great idea!

  • omg! we're doing this for our musical this year and compared to your cast, ours is crap. omg, you've got so many people, and so many excellent first sopranos!

  • i've watched the other videos from this production and i think that for a high school production, it's really great. i was just cast as eve, so i'm really excited to start working on it.

  • I thought it was really good. The only comment i would have is that Father could have used a little more of a head-chest voice mix. Don't feel like you need to belt everything when your on a mic, when you do belt, the pitch is harder to controll.

  • easily. he could have done a character choise to actually sound like hes father. they just should have casted someone with a more mature voice.

  • this is good, but i dont like how father's voice sounds like hes like 20. somebody with a more mature voice should have been cast

  • ... this was a high school production, how can a high schooler sound any older?

  • well,

a classical resonance, as apposed to a pop resonance, would be a start.

    soft pallet up, not down.

an open sound, singing from the open throat as apposed to singing through the nose. (not to say that this father was, cause that might come off as an insult, and that was not the purpose of this comment)

most all highschoolers can learn how to do that some time during highschool, where else would you learn to do that?

it might hinder someone, if they didn't know that in college.

  • This is definatly some of the best coreography that I've seen for this this song. Usually it really sucks.

  • imm sorry but god sucks he just not god type at all he moves around way to much and he acts like a hippie

  • when i did children of eden back in january we used a screen with everything too .. ours rocked SOOOO MUCH .. it was good!!!

  • oh my god. (no pun intended). I think God does a great job. It's ridiculous how people are saying he isn't "classical" enough. Having different people makes this production "fresh". Nobody likes productions that are identical. some people just need to quit hating and enjoy the magic of Broadway for what it is....originality!. haha

  • The chorus did the opening in unison...pitchy is NOT a musical term. The chorus has spread vowels. Father's voice isn't very developed.

  • ive seen better

  • While I agree that God doesn't fit the stereotype I can understand why they would put him in simple colors like that. I don't get why the chorus is in regular looking clothes though...

  • Pitchy chorus. God isn't enough classical to my taste, but hey...you cast who you have right? He was kind of pitchy too, but it wasn't that bad. Overall it was decent.

  • i agree God isn't classical enough

  • who are you to say someones pitchy? for one, your not simon, and 2, i bet you dont sing

  • I don't need to be Simon to tell when someone's pitchy and I do sing. I haven't found a way to fit my videos to the 100 mb limit. At any rate, even if I didn't sing, it doesn't take a genius to tell when someone's pitchy. Thanks for the comment though.

  • mmm... good point

  • well mind you, not everybody has a broadway voice. his is exceellent now. and every high school chorus is bound to be pitchy.

  • how did u get this?
