They sell well because they have a Ford badge on, and every car with a Ford badge on sells well - regardless of weather its actually any good or not. Add to the fact that yes the Focus is practical, fairly spacious car which is good as a family car, then you have a car that is going to be very sucessful.
@1997FordProbeGT i cant say anything about the zetec.. my old 00 focus had over 100000miles on the engine and i think it would of probly lasted for 300000 haah just the 03 i have now has no overdrive.. it still gets me to work though, :D i aint worryed about fixing in cause i wanna try to get the new 2013 focus st if i can get the loan, and it the world dosnt end before then... hahaha

@1ns4ne1d10t we had an 1.8 TDCi at auction - leaky clutch cylinder, wheel that is unbalanced, engine cut out due to faulty fuel sensor. I think we've got over the problems now and it runs fine
@TimpBizkit My mates dad has a 2003/53 Focus 1.6. Its total garbage for such an expensive price tag. Its rusting around the edges of the rear wheelarches and everything on the inside is poor quality plastic which rattles and doesn't fit right. Its not been very reliable either. Its got gearbox problems after 40,000 miles and the engine is beginning to pack up. The thing that baffles me is that its been well looked after.
i think they are crap too! i love my car none the less though. fricken out of a car for a week while it get's a whole entire new engine after a sparkplug got sucked into it. there's somthing wrong when a company can't make a car to last 100k miles mine is only at 92k.
sounds like a pile of shit for lack of maint. any car that gets regular maint done will run for a good while. you obviously never washed the salt off the car to let it rust, and since I know of foci going 200k+ miles, I laugh at your ignorance.

@1989rockztar Funnily enough Hondas are cheaper to buy new and hold their residue better, better engineered, 100x more reliable with better rust proofing. All Ford motor company like to do is make money. I think most people will agree that these old 1980's CVH Escort engines supposedly fettled by Mazda after 2001 don't have any engineering excellence over a V-tec. Zetec engines are modernised CVH crap with cheap cylinder heads and thats the good engine. SPI is even worse...

i've got a focus (euro spec) for 5 years now, only thing that went wrong was a shitty li'l plastic stabilizer rod....used to work at a Ford garage and i must say: i've worked on euro as well as us spec focus' , but the euro spec is much better built, fuckin' us cars had NO rust protection on them whatsoever as well as other issues...and yeah, in exception of the ST and RS models, it's kind of a granny-mobile, but as long as it drives and handles, i'm not complaining.
the only focus I've ever been in belonged to someone who couldn't see. They put orange tape between 50 and 60 miles an hour and drove everywhere they went that speed, no matter what the speed limit, because they could only track the needle and those two pieces of orange tape.
Loud cars to ride in, that's for sure. made of recycled cigar boxes, I think.

i have a 52 plate 1.6 lx 5 door hatchback it has 90,000 on the clock its needed a new clutch but i put that down to previous drivers
it drives like new and the only thing not working properly is the front wipers on the manual sweep function and that just needs a new relay
i hope to get plenty of miles of this car and plan to do so
i have seen ford focus's with 300,0000 on the clock and the engine still sounds like it came from the factory
