Final destination seriously sucks. It's flat, boring, and flat. And boring. And FLAT.
Some morons say it's a "Fair fight", but on the contrary, it is NOT fair. It has no gimmicks. Gimmicks are there so the best player doesn't always win, gimmicks are there to mix up the gameplay, gimmicks are there to ADD AN ELEMENT OF LUCK.
Did I say they were there so the best player doesn't always win? Wouldn't it be boring for everyone else if the best player always won? Yeah, it would be. :/
@Sparkz1607 Heh, I find it interesting that you stand in direct contrast to the competitive players, nearly all of whom will want to see the best player always win. What keeps it interesting for them is that they all want to be that "best player."
Final Destination is an unfair stage even under their own terms, actually, because without any platforms, it heavily favors characters with long-range projectiles like Fox and Toon Link. Characters like Donkey Kong are disadvantaged there.
@Sparkz1607 If one player always wins, everyone else always loses. That isn't fun. That's why all the stages have some sort of gimmick, whether it be varying terrain height, lazers, falling rocks, or random objects that do a bunch of damage. It's to mix up the gameplay.
All the best games, even FPS games, have some sort of element of luck to them. Team Fortress 2 has critical hits. There's an example for you.
The point is, all skill and no luck makes gamers dull people. It just. isn't. fun.
@Sparkz1607 I agree with you that it's no fun when one person always wins. And yes, I do feel that competitive gaming gets pretty dull.
However, I've studied competitive people for some time, and their drive to prove themselves better than the current "best player" is so strong as to keep them playing against their preconceived rivals. To them, they want to topple the champion and take his or her place, hence they play with as few things to get in the way as possible.
@Sparkz1607 Wow that's the worst argument I've ever read. So what you're saying is that gimmicks are fair over a plain "boring" stages such as FD because the "best players won't always win". Are you serious? According to you the only way a bad player can beat someone good is if gimmicks and luck are involved. How is anything that involves luck a fair fight? FD is fair because it relies souly on skill in order to win. Apparently skill doesn't make you a fair fighter.
@Andriodacg17 You completely missed the point--he said that the gimmicks are there so that the same person doesn't always win all of the matches and because he finds it more interesting than the plain dull stages.
@Overhazard Oh no I got his point. It's one thing to say a stage is boring and flat. That's understandable, it would get tiresome if you had to play a stage multiple times in a row. I'm not a huge fan of FD either. But it's completely different to say FD isn't fair because it has no gimmicks. Gimmicks aren't fair. They are unpredictable events designed to distract and entertain the players. Yes, that is what the element of fun is. A stage cant be called unfair because it has no gimmicks.
@Andriodacg17 If we're splitting hairs, it CAN be unfair for other reasons. I've noticed Final Destination has quite a bias against characters with projectiles like Snake and Link. Characters like Donkey Kong and Sonic get the disadvantage because in order to reach far-away characters with projectiles, they have to dodge them; whereas with platforms, characters with projectiles actually need to move around. The game was designed with Battlefield in mind, not Final Destination.
@Overhazard I see your point Overhazard. FD can be an uphill battle for some characters against others, but the same can be said on pretty much any stage. Just because a stage is or isn't flat is not going to stop a Pit or Link from spamming arrows or a Fox or Falco from shoot their lasers. The platforms do make a difference yes, but my initial quarrel was that just because FD lacks any gimmicks, that in its self does not make it a unfair stage. If anything its a break from the chaos of others.
@Andriodacg17 Yeah, what you say is true too. (I'd still say Battlefield is the fairest of the stages, though it's impossible for a stage to be compeltely fair.) I can't get enough of that chaos though.
Man I feel Metaknight users are noobs. It's just the constant crap being used over and over and nearly every attack he has there is no way of getting out of it.-_-
Most places that sell computers or computer parts sell video capture devices. I know CompUSA and Fry's Electronics sell them, but for some reaosn, Best Buy does not.
Video capture devices aren't too popular, so you might need to search around a bit before you find one.
There are many companies that produce video capture devices. I use a Miglia TVMax, but it's designed for Apple computers only. If you're using another operating system, people tell me good things about this thing called a "Dazzle." It's red and shaped like a croissant.
Many are cards you'd fit into the computer, but some are external, like mine and the Dazzle, which plug into a USB 2.0 slot.
The price varies tremendously because the quality varies too. The ones designed for Windows cost between $40 and $80, but ones for Macs tend to cost around $100.
Also, I forgot to ask. Oh. How long does it take to upload each video clip on your video capture card onto YouTube? Just asking. With my Digital Camera, it takes one hour or more. D:
It depends on the filesize more than anything else. A good video capture device will allow you to set the videos to a definite amount of kilobits per second.
My videos run at 1330 kbps, by the way, which comes out to about 10 MB per minute.
lol, when ike fell in the race circuit it looked like when chapter of a serie reaches the point where is more suspense and appears the hated signal(to be continued)
Oh yeah, btw: you picked the CD and I was wondering, that was a wi-fi match, does it mean everyone is getting the song or only the player who picked it up.
You mean in Sudden Death? That's to prevent the tiebreaker round from lasting too long: After 30 seconds, if the players haven't decided a winner, the game decides one for them.
Your rumble falls is my warioware and Mushroomy Kingdom. They're my first choice when I go into a room. Honestly, though, some of the stages I choose just for music.
Oh, and on a completely random subject, there should have been the mario rpg underground song in brawl (the one that plays in Hinopio mart). Just finished the VC version and smithy was EASY!
"Beware the Forest Mushrooms" (Forest Maze) was originally going to be in this game, but Square was unwilling to allow Nintendo to use stuff from SMRPG. If it makes you feel a bit better.
I see how full the room is full of Final Destinationers. If I feel there's only one, I go to Luigi's Mansion to figure out which one it is. If there are two or three, I pick WarioWare, Rumble Falls, Big Blue, or Spear Pillar to mess with them.
I don't like the music Ground Theme 2. I Like Team Galactic Battle!, Underground Theme (Super Mario Land) and Fire Emblem Theme (Should be Called Main Theme, don't know why it isn't).
Quite often, it isn't. I see a lot of Final Destinationers pick Zelda too. My guess is that Zelda's weak spot is below her, and there's no attacking from underneath in Final Destination. (Not very often, at least.)
Ah those "Sniper" Zeldas, I love facing them, I can see how they can be annoying in team battles (Which i mainly am in) but 4-ways I don't see much use in long-range fighting.....
What happens with me, it seems, is that everyone but Zelda is crowded in one spot, allowing Zelda to aim away. And when I try to get toward Zelda, I have to simultaneously dodge Din's Fires and fend off people following me there.
I suppose everybody wants to get rid of her or something, since when I try to take her down, someone else knocks me aside and I get caught in a Din's Fire.
Haha, I loved the Falcon FS at the final seconds. I always try to do that when I'm Falcon in taunt parties. Comon, Blue Falcon!
Was it because that sonic got the Smash Ball? Anytime Sonic gets a FS, its basically +3 score for him.
Good serious matches too, especially with Wario. I's just tell you to use more D-airs with him, its really good. Wario actually has one of the best horizontal air movement speeds in the game. And I love KOing with Wario's U-air; that clap is so awesome.
Sonic got the Smash Ball, though only once. I've never seen so many KOs in one match though, as Sonic could pull off a ton of KOs without the help of a Smash Ball.
Of course, hitting people with aerial attacks wouldnt't work so well on that match in Mushroomy Kingdom. Most of the time, everyone wanted to remain on the ground as often as possible.
Really? That's pretty shocking, I've never heard of a Sonic getting so many kills outside getting like 2 Smash Balls in a match. Pity he couldn't translate that skill anywhere outside of FD.
That's the beauty of Wario's short hop. He can even hit Metaknight with his short hopped D-air. You did pretty good with Wario beyond this though, The only things I could suggest would be a the SH D-air and a bit more F-smash.
You are definitely getting better though. Keep improving!
Which, of course, leads me to believe he's a Final Destinationer, as he falls short in any stage that requires movement to survive. WarioWare is a great testing ground to see who's a Final Destinationer, since the most "hardcore" among them don't really know how to do the microgames. You can see Sonic getting caught in most of them here.
Short hopping is something I should work on too then. I try short hopping on the Practice Stage but get a lot of normal jumps.
Yeah, I love watching FDers on non FD stages. They are particularly bad at Delphino and Rumble Falls (the later of which is actually a really hard stage with Peach. Her jumps are so short and she is so light. At least she can float with the stage.)
I still mess up my short hops at least once or twice during a 2 minute with anyone match, so it just comes with practice. Soon you will be able to short hop in, attack, and space yourself back out like its no big thing.
Yeah, it seems I have some working on with Wario on Rumble Falls myself. I already knew Wario can't jump very high, and it put me at a disadvantage at times. (Ike apparently fared worse though.)
Tossing Final Destinationers in Big Blue often results in a slaughterhouse too. At least Delfino doesn't kill you if you stay in one spot.
Know how I can avoid getting conterattacked or dodged when doing a short hop aerial?
Wario and Rumble Falls is definitely not a good combination. Sure he can move like quicksilver in the air, but only in a left, right, or downwards direction.
I love the music in Big Blue enough to pick it occasionally, nothing like playing Big Blue with nothing but bunny bands on while playing as Sonic. I love outrunning the F-Zero racers.
The best way to keep from being punished for short hops is spacing.
Let's use Peach as an example (who didn't see this coming).
You want to start your hop outside of your foe's attack range, and while in the air move towards them and attack.
The idea being to hit with the tip of your attack, and after your attack hits/misses/gets shielded; you want to be holding away from your foe on the stick.
The idea being that you attacked, and are now to far away to be counter-attacked.
So the idea is to dash in towards the opponent to fake them out into attacking, but instead leap up into the air a short distance from the player to get outside of the attack range?
What I had in mind was going right up directly in front of the player, then hopping to perform an aerial attack because it's somehow more powerful than a ground attack. Because that's what I've tried sometimes to no effect.
Bingo, but you don't even have to fake them into attacking; just the act of short hopping often gets you past their attacking defenses. Another good way to fake them out is to short hop towards them, and then immediately use your second jump backwards, and then as your landing, trying to bash them with an aerial. They key is to mix it up, and short hops really help.
That only works with a few aerials (Peach's N-air or B-air for instance). Aerial priority is weird, and aerials can never clank.
Okay. So I should do this maybe two or three boy lengths away from the player, or maybe more for long jumpers, rather than directly, almost touching the character.
Yeah, that's more or less the perfect time to short hop an approach. The only time you really want to jump while right next to someone is if that character has a quick aerial that they can use to try and clear the space around them.
This WAS a taunt party, after all. The outcome of the match is unimportant. Sometimes, I see someone purposely take damage from another player, then suicide to give the point to them. That way, the game can decide a winner without a Sudden Death.
I'm usually surprised, after several consecutive matches of Final Destination, that a stage is selected that I didn't choose. It shows that often, there's more than one person who wants out.
I wish it happened more often though. People tend to figure out I'm the one who's picking stages other than Final Destination, and rather than wanting out, they go after me.
Final destination seriously sucks. It's flat, boring, and flat. And boring. And FLAT.

The best way to keep from being punished for short hops is spacing.
