The funny thing about this game is Visual Concepts who was the developer for most Sega/2K Sports titles didn't develop NHL 2K it was developed by Black Box Games which was later bought by EA.

Which makes the line Mark gives about this not being good as the EA Hockey games extra funny.

Sega Dreamcast had it all, I wish Sega was still in the market. I loved the DreamCast, but to bad it got destroyed by the ps2 which i did buy since they stopped supporting the Dreamcast.

Dreamcast's problems back in 2000 was it's popularity, and ps2. Not enough popularity for it, EA didn't want to support it. Then the ps2 owned the Dreamcast cause it had a dvd player, which most people back then couldn't afford.

I bet if the dreamcast had a dvd built it, and more support, it could of won

EA's refusal to support the Dreamcast had nothing to do with the DC's poor popularity, EA was upset over Sega pulling out on the Saturn suddenly and well before the Dreamcast was ready, which left them with tons of unfinished and unsold software.

Thats where the 2K Sports games came from, Sega had to make their own sports titles for the DC. Then they made them for all consoles after they went 3rd party, before selling the franchise to Take Two Interactive.

Dreamcast was awesome.

Yeah, Dreamcast was Popular and it's gained a cult following due to it's awesomeness+short lifespan. Dreamcasts launch was so successful it was compared to Box office sales results for Phantom Menace.

However, Sony's announcement of PS2 "with a DVD player and plays PS1 games" more than a year before the launch of PS2 did much to kill sales of the Dreamcast. By the time the November 2000 launch rolled round, Dreamcast wasn't selling at all. Sega pulled out in January 2001.

That said, Dreamcast still sold 10.6 million consoles in just 2 years.

@iGadgetsTv Sega Dreamcast may have had it all but it's too bad thought about it too late, instead of making 400 accessories for the Genesis they should have created the Dreamcast since Saturn, if you ask me it's either Dreamcast released in 1995 when PS1 and N64 where debuting either Dreamcast DVD in '99 you can't blame anyone but Sega for the Dreamcast fall, they should have thought about it, and I hate how a lot of gamers say Dreamcast is so underrated because of the PS2...

@iGadgetsTv they had an agressive marketing campaign. if you look at any shows made in the late 90s and early 2000s a kid playing videogames was playing the dreamcast. i noticed it in malcolm in the middle and my wife and kids

Oh no of course not but Mario can be given a good case for number 2. Mario had 690 goals 1033 assists very great record. Not to mention Wayner played more games then he did and more seasons too so who really knows how close or far away Mario would have been had he played a couple hundred more games like Wayne did. 17 seasons vs 20, 1487 games vs 915. SO its a little hard to judge but to be fair Mario was a spectacular player maybe more skillful then Wayne but Wayne tops everyoen

Few things, One:I'm Candien and thats pretty funny the way u guys said "Eh" after everything and "bueaty". 2: Wayne Gretzky was the best hockey player ever. He had 3 200 point seasons, Mario had 0. Gretzky had more assist, goals and points that ANYONE... SO WHAT U TALKIN ABOUT SUCKA!

I love the reviews. I love the casual nature, from these old videos to the new ones. I have one issue though... STFU with talking about beer EVERY VIDEO. It gets old, and really serves no purpose. It doesn't make you anymore enjoyable, nor does it make you seem cool.

I remember the graphics for this game were amazing at the time. wow, nothing like looking at old sports game to realize the graphical power we have in our current consoles. It's like looking at gameday 98 and then looking at madden 2009

I think the basic polygonal graphics have aged much much worse than than the crisp pixels of the 16bit era.

BUT these graphics look a lot better than any PSX hockey game and even today look pretty stand up good. I never played this game here. But love the CHR, review right on cue. Hockey rocks, watch it!

My favorite sport. I was even playing NHL 2002 on my PS3 and it looked muddy but this game looks great. Sad tale of the Dreamcast and Sega here.

your right. as soon as 3D polygons came in 2D went right out of fashion, but now its done 360 and the old or even a few years old 3d graphics go out of fashion quick and the 2D retro sprite games are back in fashion

Beauty! The classic Game Room reviewing some hockey. I always loved when games give you the option of using old unis. I noticed they had the old Whale jersey in this game, then why don't any of the newer games have it? The Whalers jerseys were sweet.

As for 2K hockey...I still play 2K8 for my PS3. Even if 2K9 was disapointing, my 2K8 rosters are more up to date than EA '09 (which I did purchase) but I mainly play that only for the Be a Pro mode.
