Hey Crocket! If you hit the pivot with WD40, you can improve the opening speed of your knife! I did this to my Tenacious, now it flies open without the flick of my wrist!
You're getting a little excited about this knife, Frankie. You need to relax - don't do it. Seriously, though, this video is spinning me like a record, baby, right round, round-round. I like that brown, but could it be too much of a Karma Chameleon if you drop it in the dirt? It may just come and go. I wonder if they make it in red, gold, and green?
Love that knife! I have the exact same one. Well not exact or i would have yours I guess. Then you would be all Dude why the heck do you have my freaking knife! Then you would go all Jeff Speakman on me and it would be bad :( lol But I have a very simular knife to that one and love it! God it is a great knife! I send you a vid of me hard using it. Ignore the first minute or so thats me just being a rere lol!
nice I love my endura. bought mine in 98, alittle different than the one you showed but still great. it took me a bit to get used to carrying that big knife being since this was my first knife but after all this time I still wear it and feel naked without it. thanks for the vid
Good vid, Crocket. I've liked the Endura 4 design since I got my first one (and I have twenty some Enduras). I recently picked up one from knifeworks (dot com) that has an Orange color on the FRN scales. Very cool. Great knife. Like you, I also had the pocket clip come loose. Blue Locktite to the resuce!
Totally agree with you on the FRN handle. I bought a delica today, I had always overlooked them in the store because I thought it looked a little funny, but when I handled it I found out just how grippy it is. Interestingly, the grind on my delica isn't perfect either.
Wow...1990 Endura intro. I had one of those first knives, with the full Spyder edge. Truthfully I didn't like it due to that fully serrated edge. Too big for my needs as well. I like the improvements over the years though.
Nice knife. I'm still iffy on spyderco, but almost convinced. Guess I need to buy my first one. Oh wait!! Then I might get hooked like all the rest of you and have another brand of life's that I can't stop buying ;)
not a bad looking knife for a Spyderco, Never been a fan because they look so odd, you seem to like edc blades so if you are able to maybe check out the SOG Salute, Awesome knife at a good price!
@BlackLabrador183 Well hey now, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the best. I mean we have Boston, Queen, Led Zep in the 70's. That's pretty hard to top.
Eh. 1 hand isn't bad with the Endura4. Push the back lock, then push the back of the blade on anything to start to close it, then move all fingers out of the way and push it the rest of the way closed. No need to risk a bite :-)
That's it you just broke my heart with that vid... I used to have this exact knife, and last spring, I forgot it on a job site in the arctic, I landed it to a knifeless coworker, and boarded the plane back home, only after a few minutes in the air, it hit me: left it there, so I contacted that buddy to tell him that he should not shipit back to me, and told him that I was pleased to give him the best edc ever, in my opinion... never had second toughts eversince..until now..gotta get a new one!!
Love the FRN scales on these knives, currently I EDC Delicas and seem to like the smaller size, great review. More power to you to find the time to post more reviews!
@Vhammer2010 I think we should all start wearing them again and bring 'em back into style...or maybe not. Actually, as hiking pants they could probably be made into a shelter for about 12 people if needed ; )
It is so fun seeing a friend review a product I have, to see their experience with it. Despite it being slower than your other knives, it still looks relatively effortless for you - did you loosen the hinge, use secret ninja oil, or is that simply your knife wielding awesomeness, lol? I can deploy it with some speed, but I really gotta put some elbow grease into it compared to my Blur and Resilience. It's my primary EDC these days; I like that it is versatile, but does not scream TACTICAL.
@drzmanproject It is a mind/ninja/train in the mountains of endura with more ninjas technique : ) While mine is slower than my other knives, it sounds like you might have a tougher one to open. In fact I don't even notice it unless I'm opening knife x and then the Endura. I think I loosened the pivot screw, but it wasn't by much.
Lol! memories of the 'Bono' look I had back then...long hair, dark clothes...Love my Endura 1...my 1st edc blade...still rotate it daily w/ my other Spydies...Provenator, Copilot, Delica...
@TotallyL337 No, mainly just the style and much of the music. Actually there is a lot of the music I still listen to. ACDC for example. Love those guys.
@Cr0cket20 Thankfully people from the 80's also hate 80's style. I figured we saw eye to eye regarding the dreadful 1980's. But like you said, good things come from even the shittiest of decades.
Thanks for the great review Crocket! I really like the looks of both the Endura and Delica 4 FFGs and both are on my "wish list" for blades. So many great knives, so few dollars...anyway thanks again and keep 'em coming (when you're not busy with the little ones!)
I gotta say Cr0cket great minds think a like. I probably bought my endura about the same time you did. I did however go with the half serrated and just the regular flat grind. This knife is meant to jam, wedge, pry, and cut thick webbing in wet conditions. Which is why I went thicker and serrated. So far so great. I have had to sharpen out a small nick in the blade but it was from metal on metal contact ( I used it to open the hood of a car ). Great review.
Always great get your view on it. Great review. Coming from similar marital art disiplines its cool to see the vid of your knife form. Great job! Thanks for sharing! Hope the twins and the rest of the fmaily are well!

@treytd32 I have always wanted to more of that type of info out. I need someone to work on though and demonstrate certain things. It's hard to get someone to volunteer for me to hit : )
Great review... it's on my wish list for things I want. Sadly I've got other things I want first. I want to go backpacking for the first time next Spring.
Thanks for the review Crocket! This will be my next knife, but I'm not sure about the colors though... maybe I'm too oldschool but I like the black scales or something dark color. I love the british racing green that spyderco offers, but I'd like to have vg-10, and not zdp-189 steel. I have a delica with that, and althoough that is a super steel and I have a really hard time sharpening it.
@HunterRyngo You know I'm typically the same way (with the black scales). I wanted to try something a little different. So far the VG10 has been a great steal to work with. However, I don't let the blade get extremely dull before I sharpen. When I've been using it hard I generally sharpen it the first chance I get. Sharpened many times this way and each time I can get it back to hair shaving sharp.
Wow, look at young Cr0cket20 kicking ass and taking names! It's a pitty you didn't keep up with it. We need more 'run-and-knife' videos of you and Nutn to complement the 'run-and-gun' ones... tactical carabine, transition pistol, transition fixed blade, transition folder ;) Tell me that doesn't sound fun!
'80's music was good. Embarassing and with questionable androgeny and sexual orientiation, but good nonetheless. A ton of hits that are still memorable. Whiie lately, it is just a bunch of teens/tweens and 'urban', self-proclaimed 'tough' guys while hiding in the suburbs and tinted Escalades.
Hard to believe some of us were in diapers. lol. The blade of it would take me awhile to get use to it and that would be the design. The handle looks like it would be the answer. I still favor the Gerbers. Give our best to the family my friend
Hey Crocket, don't be down on the 80's. Some really great music came out then :)
I have this knife in the brown too, you have good taste! Grind on mine was nice and even so maybe you got an odd one. I close mine the same way, as long as I have the finger forward, it's no problem. Works the same on the Delica, but get careless and they will bite! Very good knife, not much not to like. Best wishes to you and yours.
At least back in the late 80's and early 90's, people were pullin' their pants up where they belong. I was not a fan of the mini trucks, mock turtle necks with the necklace outside the collar, the flat-top mullets or Polo cologne.
Good review. I have been considering a new Endura. I cant get a scary sharp endge even with my new Spyderco sharpmaker. I think I will send it in for sharpening. I will look for a good price on on an earth color Endura for sure. Thanks
@stompySharpNpointy nice krav maga, kenjutsu, iaijutsu, shurikenjutsu, judo, karate kempo, kendo and some chinese techniques i like a lil bit of everything and i like to use em all to be unpredictable, what's yer fav technique or type of techniques
@wepntech would have to be tuite-jitsu being disabled im most likely to be pushed or grabbed at so one of the best ways to defend agnst grabs and pushes is breaking the attackers arm fingers or wrist. if im punching its an upper cut when theyre in my face. they wont see it coming or a straight punch to the collarbone or hook to inner elbow or nerve strikes to the forearm pressure points
@stompySharpNpointy disabled as in wheel chair or? and ya good points on all those look into acupressure too if you wanna learn some more of how the body works most of the points for healing can also be used for harm, just a thought, and is yer stuck in a wheel chair or something, there is the thing of having a cane for reaching or whatever you can give a hel of a wallop with one of those or a walking cane also can be deadly even from sitting or laying on yer back even. yosha
@wepntech wheelchair now was crutches i have a birth defect called spina bifada. studied RyuKyu kempo and tuite-jitsu joint locking\bone breaking art in the Kata of Ryukyiu Kempo
@stompySharpNpointy yeah that sux bro but yer not lettin it get ya down ya aint dead ya can still fight so many people with no health problems what so ever cant do what you've already done keep it up trooper. respect yo
am NOT a knife-fighter. In fact, I want my hands free, as the ground beneath my feet is the most effective weapon I have found (deploys quickly!) ... That said, I recently acquired a Cold Steel Voyger XL (plain-edged clip-point), as a pocket backup to my Becker BK-2 (and as an upgrade to my Pocket Bushman). It has a 5.5" blade and the handle ergos are world class. If ever there was a fighter, tho, this is IT. You won't like that the clip is not smooth but it will do impact work and ROCKS!
The other great features, of the Voyager XL ... Will deploy without touching the blade and Red's Gear will ship it to you for under $50 ! ... If I wasn't already 52 yrs old, I'd prolly order a 2nd one.
@phrankus2009 Someone asked me the other day if I could only tell them one thing to do in a knife fight what would it be? My true and honest answer...run.
@Cr0cket20 True Martial "Art" is to sense trouble days and miles away, and navigate around it. The best strategy is not ever to even need to run. Careful choice of words and non-verbals is also key, when escalation appears to be imminent.
@glock2026 Endura lighter and much thinner. Blade not quite as wide either. Love the locking mechanism on the Manix2. Overall the manix is just a beefier knife. If I had to make the decision...I would probably go with the Endura. Although I miss my M2.
I always get stuck on websites, stores, with a bunch of cool gear and stuff. Glad I was really young in the 90's born in 93 so I don't remember the wretched fashion that was going on. lol
Good video. I still am deciding if I like this blade, I have a hard time warming up to the scales. Like you said though, they serve a purpose. I LOVE the Benchmade axis locks b/c it's so easy to flip them closed.
@Cr0cket20 I agree. That style of lock is wonderful. Like you, I'm all about the single handed deployment and closing if I can get it. The Griptilian was my first real knife...purchased about 2.5 yrs ago. Size and weight are great, but I would prefer jimping that actually added to gripability, thinner sides, contoured sides around the deployment hole, and different handle material... I don't care for the hollow plastic sound when deploying and closing the knife. Overall good knife though.
Good timing on this video, ive been wanting to pick up a endura for weeks now. Im tryin to con my dad into getting it for me for christmas. Its all ive been thinking about.
I have a KaBar Dozier, it's a lockback, and (i know this will sound stupid but bear with me) i tried stabbing a pop bottle and the blade came back and bit me! This wasn't the only time the lockback of the blade failed me, when I was batoning the same knife through some kindling (maybe I shouldn't do that?) the lock failed halfway through the wood.
I'm wondering if I should be concerned with all lock back knives, or am I just being dumb?
Stabbing pop bottles and batoning is quite bit outside the envelope for a folding knife. Most of all, why'd you want to stab pop bottles. Common sense seems to be the best solution to you problems.
That being said there are more "hard use" locks than the lock back, AXIS comes to mind. Just remember the strongest lock will always be weaker than a proper fixed blade.
Hey lol @ the Windows Vista bashing lol --- Vista is what I am using and honestly (and I'm sure a lot of people will agree) it is pretty much on par with Win 7 since it has now had several full fledged service packs.
When it first came out, sure, it was a total POS, but it now it is very good in my opinion. And I'm not at all a noob user in any way lol.
I have this blade too & agree it is a little bit of a slow deployment. I too like the size & weight ratio of this knife. As you know I lean heavily on the utility side of the fence when it comes to knives. So this one is a little big for me, but I still like having it in my pocket.
@CampfireTalk I found your answer to the knife question very interesting. It's fun how we all dig the knives and while having overlapping likes have different aspects we like too.
Hey I was born in '81 jerkface. I was a master of fish AND mammal karate by 8 years old, then I got hooked on a show called Kelly Bundys Rack and havent dropped my hotdog since. Apparently now its called Married with Children?!
I have the same blade in blue handle, "I'm lovin' it"
@PillowDood Alright alright, there are some good things that came out of the 80's. But the music...the music...please shoot me. Actually ACDC and a few others I still listen to. ACDC being one of my favs. But the hair rock and monster ballads...take the endura and shove it between my finger and finger nails ; )
I have the Delica4 and I like the size better plus you dont have to choke up on it as much when you close it. GREAT review. BTW...I just did a "review" of the LifeStraw that I posted last night, I think you it would be right up your alley...the LifeStraw that is not my review....lol
@Iam1uglyguy Overall I tend to lean toward the longer knives. Do have some 3" and like those too but prefer the longer. There's kind of a sweet spot in there.
My Endura 4 was even more hair shaving out of the box!! I bought the purple one ;) Love the blade shape, steel, handle material... everything!! I am a fan for life!
as a pround owner of the endura 4 green frn ffg for over 2 years now, all i can say is I love this blade. I use it at work pretty much everyday and I never think it is too big. Works great for cutting trout open on the campfire and is allso very good for cutting foods and such. for $40 its a must have!
Nice introduction to the Endura series, I love all of my Spyderco's especially my Endura's because I use them the most since they are my edc favorite.
i came out of the 80's you cheeky fuck lol

'80's music was good. Embarassing and with questionable androgeny and sexual orientiation, but good nonetheless. A ton of hits that are still memorable. Whiie lately, it is just a bunch of teens/tweens and 'urban', self-proclaimed 'tough' guys while hiding in the suburbs and tinted Escalades.

Great review Crocket. I liked the video clip you added, very cool. Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks

@stompySharpNpointy nice krav maga, kenjutsu, iaijutsu, shurikenjutsu, judo, karate kempo, kendo and some chinese techniques i like a lil bit of everything and i like to use em all to be unpredictable, what's yer fav technique or type of techniques
wepntech 2 months ago
@wepntech would have to be tuite-jitsu being disabled im most likely to be pushed or grabbed at so one of the best ways to defend agnst grabs and pushes is breaking the attackers arm fingers or wrist. if im punching its an upper cut when theyre in my face. they wont see it coming or a straight punch to the collarbone or hook to inner elbow or nerve strikes to the forearm pressure points
stompySharpNpointy 2 months ago
@stompySharpNpointy disabled as in wheel chair or? and ya good points on all those look into acupressure too if you wanna learn some more of how the body works most of the points for healing can also be used for harm, just a thought, and is yer stuck in a wheel chair or something, there is the thing of having a cane for reaching or whatever you can give a hel of a wallop with one of those or a walking cane also can be deadly even from sitting or laying on yer back even. yosha

an very light spine wack unlocks the blade, making it a poor «tactile knife»...but it makes an awesome food prep knife.

am NOT a knife-fighter.

Vista? I thought it was called VistaME.
lostburro 2 months ago
The other great features, of the Voyager XL ... Will deploy without touching the blade and Red's Gear will ship it to you for under $50 ! ... If I wasn't already 52 yrs old, I'd prolly order a 2nd one.

@Cr0cket20 True Martial "Art" is to sense trouble days and miles away, and navigate around it. The best strategy is not ever to even need to run. Careful choice of words and non-verbals is also key, when escalation appears to be imminent.

Good review, i know you lost your manix2 , how does this compare?
glock2026 2 months ago
@glock2026 Endura lighter and much thinner. Blade not quite as wide either. Love the locking mechanism on the Manix2. Overall the manix is just a beefier knife. If I had to make the decision...I would probably go with the Endura. Although I miss my M2.

Good video. I still am deciding if I like this blade, I have a hard time warming up to the scales. Like you said though, they serve a purpose. I LOVE the Benchmade axis locks b/c it's so easy to flip them closed.
Take care-
Boss
TheVAboss 2 months ago
@TheVAboss That Axis lock is top notch. Been playing with the Griptilian and I think that style of lock is probably my favorite.
Cr0cket20 2 months ago
@Cr0cket20 I agree. That style of lock is wonderful. Like you, I'm all about the single handed deployment and closing if I can get it. The Griptilian was my first real knife...purchased about 2.5 yrs ago. Size and weight are great, but I would prefer jimping that actually added to gripability, thinner sides, contoured sides around the deployment hole, and different handle material... I don't care for the hollow plastic sound when deploying and closing the knife. Overall good knife though.

Hey Cr0cket, nice video by the way :)
RaibidBunniez 2 months ago
@RaibidBunniez I've yet to have a lock back fail on me. Sounds like you might have bad lock up on the blade.
Cr0cket20 2 months ago
@RaibidBunniez

And I'm not at all a noob user in any way lol.
martinaee 2 months ago
I have this blade too & agree it is a little bit of a slow deployment. I too like the size & weight ratio of this knife. As you know I lean heavily on the utility side of the fence when it comes to knives. So this one is a little big for me, but I still like having it in my pocket.
Great review buddy.
