  • No offense .. but the year is 2012 .. TUNE THAT GUITAR !!! ..personal pet peeve of mine .. checking out yet another out of tune demo .. talk about making a great pedal sound like shit ... " SERENITY NOW !!! "

  • too harsh n too edgy.

  • This better than Boss DS1 IMO

  • sounds good

  • hm..... either this or the exh metal muff?

  • @dbyo88 This seems to be more versatile than the Metal Muff I own.

  • 2:19 sounds like the singing wet blanket with some a-hole muffling indiscernibley underneath it. Just my thought, yeah I'll go fuck myself. Not literally though - gross!!

  • this is a dark, blanket over your speakers sounding pedal in my experience as well.will definately tame an overly bright sounding amp.

  • what's better? the distortion lll or the classic distortion?

  • @serve4life Same exact pedal, different enclosure. Classic Distortion is a Guitar Center-only limited run that ended last year, but you can probably snag one cheap on ebay or something.

  • I don't hate him. I hate idiots who praise him like some sort of god.

  • the guitar is out of tune/ a guitarra está desafinada.

  • @NeatStar Mythbusters disagrees

  • ToneFactor, thanks for good demos! Best on youtube!

  • @NeatStar according to mythbusters you actually can polish a shit haha

  • I love Mythbusters. And Carrie. It's probably wrong to think of her polishing turds though... a bit creepy.

  • drone 713, that was a huge cheap shot. Do you have a problem with 13 year old guitarists? Or slash? Keep you opinions to yourself.

  • I have a huge problem with 13 year olds who worship slash. And no, I don't think I'll keep my opinions to myself.

  • turn up the tone!!! GOD!!

  • i just like this pedal because it looks like something jack white would get

  • haha gotta love jack white

  • Any opinions wich would be better for randy rhoads tone; this or dist plus? thanks.

  • Randy used a Dist+ in front of his Marshall Plexi already crancked, so to get that sound out of a pedal, you need sth heavier...

  • yes i know that but wich one should i choose? afterall its the same pedal but with the tone knob on it?

  • well not really, I think the Dist III has also more gain... I used the Dist+ in front of a Plexi, and I really liked the sound, but was a bit noisy. both are great pedals, but as I said, the DIII has more gain

  • It's difficult to get the Randy sound because a good part of his tone was power tube distortion. I'd probably go for something totally different, like the MI Audio Crunchbox and stick an EQ pedal infront of it for an extra kick and to shape the overall tone.

  • MrBrownstone1996? Are you kidding me? That's the fucking dumbest name I've ever heard. That's basically saying that you worship Slash (which means you suck at guitar and have been playing less than a year) and that you're 13 in the same name. Could you be any more of an idiot?

  • @drone713 slash is the greatest and most influential guitarist since the death of hendrix, be quiet and go back to inbred mountain :)

  • I can't tell if you're being sarcastic because of the Buckethead reference...

  • @drone713 haha well done mate. but in all seriousness slash is the greatest since hendrix

  • @ryaniomitch John Frusciante is ma main man

  • @ryaniomitch lol what an idiot. hendrix isn't even the most influential guitarist. the one, goes by the name of Robert Fripp. look him up ;)

  • @bongmail Nobody can say who the most influential people in ANY field are, it's all perspective.

  • @bongmail if you have to tell people to look him up, how can you say he's the most influential guitarist?

  • @gwombat well cos not everyone listens to prog rock.. listen to him and you'll change your mind :)

  • @gwombat Because he influenced musicians and people seriously into music; not people who are content to let The Beatles and Led Zeppelin be the extent of their musical knowledge.

  • @Phan7om12 the distortion + doesn't have true bypass anyway

  • both are true bypass....

  • it still sucks compared to the dist.3

  • nice!

  • hello

I fell for this one: .MXR Classic Distortion Overdrive It is black and it seems that it is replaced from MXR with a new one. Is this the one ?? Thanks for help.

  • the mxr classic distortion is a limited edition pedal that usually comes out for a Guitar Center sale about every year. It is in fact this *exact same* pedal, just with a black casing and a $30 price tag instead of $79

  • Yes of course, I own it and can say that pedal is good for it. However I recently heard an as cheap as this MXR distortion that does the job better again : this is the Tonerider British Distortion. I think there are demos of it here on You Tube.

  • I'm looking for a good heavy stoner rock distortion for guitar and bass and I could have sworn that someone recommended this one. Does anyone use it for that?

  • for stoner or grunge stuff probably a boss ds1

  • I think buying a six pack is better!

  • great tool tone

  • is this any good for metal?

  • Which is better MXR Distortion III or BOSS DS-1 ?

  • definitely the mxr

  • MXR!!

  • MXR for sure. The DS-1 is a classic beginners pedal, and it has very little professional sounding tone (or lack of) to it.

  • I think that this pedal is amazing you have the classic rock sound when you play. I am using it for 2 months and I 've never hear a better distorion than this cute red box.

  • dont like it...

  • Is this the same pedal as the MXR Classic Distortion that Guitarcenter sells for $29.99?

  • nope. this is more expensive. oh, if u see that mxr classic distortion, GET IT! its a rarity

  • I got one of the mxr classic distorition, and from a website someone has taken apart the mxr distortion III and the mxr classic distortion. It reveals that both pedals use the same circuit board with the same component values. Only difference was the casing. But why would one cost abut $50.00 more if the internal parts are the same? Is the case for the distortion III worth $50.00?

  • i dont think so cus this 1 goes 4 $79.99

  • Hmm....i saw online that the circuit board is identical, even the values of the resistors and capacitors are the same. Even the documents and recommended settings shown in this video are the same for the cheaper MXR Classic Distortion. Only difference I see is the casing. Is one made in USA and other one made in China to offset the price difference?

  • Yes, same exact pedal in a different box. In fact the Classic Distortion was a very limited run until they sold out really fast. Now I think they are making more, not totally sure but I got one on the first run and I've never looked back.

  • can you play metal on these?

  • No it's pretty medium gain. You can use your amp's overdrive and with this thing ion front of it you'll get some metal. btw the guy on this demo needs to tune his guitar.

  • YES AMEN BROTHA!!!! OMG we tune cuz we care this dude obviously don't care! lol!

  • cool

  • is it just me, or does watching all these

pedal demos make you wanna jump in a pool?

  • even more so when its 90 degrees outside haha

  • haha you said it buddy

  • @44eelz ????

  • which is better the Distortion + Or The Distortion III

  • imo this one

  • Go for the Fredric effects Grumbly wolf, hotrodded Dist +

  • they have nothing in common but the name.

the distortion+ is fuzzy and the distortion III is very smooth.

however they both sound more like overdrive than real distortion pedals

  • This one the + reminds me of a ds1 *shudder*

  • A modded metal zone is not bad at all, whether it's keeley or monte allums. It's perfectly fine for recording and at small gigs if you have it mic'd. I'd recommend the guyatone metal monster if you want the best metal pedal.

  • I polish shit for a living dude so speak for yourself.

  • Actually you can if it's a distortion pedal. Keeley is a genius!

  • how did you get em for free

  • this is one of my four pedals (which i got 3 for free)

mxr EVH phase 90, dimbag darrel crybaby, mxr distortion 3, and a grunge digi tec stomp

  • how did you get them free

  • my fathers buddy works for dunnlop

  • lucky bumhole;) haha

  • this is a really great pedal if you think about the money you need to buy it (only 80 dollars).

I use it mixed with mxr zack wilde overdrive (i play with gibson les paul custom) and i can say they work very well toghter!!!

  • Really? I'll have to look into that because most MXR pedals aren't true bypass, but that is great if this one is. The BOSS pedals aren't true bypass for the most part, but their buffered signal is somewhat sound for the most part.

  • iM PRETTY SURE THIS ONE IS

  • Anyone wanna recommend a distortion pedal for like a Metallica/Megadeth sound?

  • Metal Core. May not be the exact sound, but captures the spirit. The MXR ones are probably a bit light for Metallica.

  • im looking for the same

    do you recommand any?

  • Yeah that guy down there recommended a metal core. I went to this shop the other day, and i tried one out. It sounds pretty good, but it kinda sounds too dark/heavy. But i don't know, i didn't really mess around with it too much. I'll probably get that metal zone. It sounds pretty thin, but that's what I'm going for, the whole thrashy sound

  • ok im thinking of buying an epiphone valve junior stack in a half year and i play metallica so i need a good distortion pedal but in 2 weeks im going to a big store and than i will test some

and i will keep those from boss in mind

  • Yeah man, good luck

  • the metal zone is CRAP.

get a tube amp that's better voiced for metal...used 5150, b-52 AT112, bugera, not a valve junior, it's just not voiced for metal. and you can boost any of those amps with an overdrive.

  • You should check out the Keeley modded Metal Zone. He takes regular, shitty Boss pedals and mods the hell out of 'em until they sound AMAZING.

  • this is cool sound effector . compared with DS 1 , It's warmer sound...i think it better than DS 1

  • how does the mxr distortion iii compare with the boss ds-1?

  • distortion 3 is true bypass so it doesn't suck tone whereas the boss ds 1 isn't true bypass so it sucks tone

  • how would you compare the sound quality between the two, not counting the bypass switch on the mxr one?

  • Would have been nice to hear different settings of the pedal. To hear how the guitar cleans up by lowering its volume, etc...

  • QUit giving us the finger!!!

    ROCK ON!

    GMD

  • You're a kid in a man's body. I love your reviews. ROCK till the day you die which, I hope, is after me cause I'd miss your snakeskin boots..

  • are you using buckers?

  • which is better for punk rock. This or the mxr distortion plus. the price does not matter i want to know which one will deliever the best distortion without it turning into a metal pedal.

  • how much does one of these cost?

  • ´round 80 bucks on musiciansfriend

  • I'm pretty sure that we used a Les Paul Custom Classic into a Mesa F-50 on this video. That could explain the darkness.

We've started listing all of the equipment used on the videos, so any future videos will detail the gear used.

  • @ToneFactor I'm not so sure about it because that pedal naturally sounds like some Mesa amps

  • 1993SG is right, without information of amp and guitar been used, there is no point.

  • is this supposed to be the same as a distortion+ but with a tone control?

  • Hi Great tone... just a suggestion. Please include the type of amp and which channel was being used, and what type of guitar etc. thanks for the vid.

  • is it any good as a solo boost?

  • Very nice sounding, although maybe a little bit on the dark side. Sort of like a BB Preamp w/ less flexibilty.
