  • Oh the time you could get away with wearing clothes like that and being able to tapdance... <3

  • 5 people are retarded and unrefined!

  • Pure magic.

  • moving perfection that takes your breath away, you have to "Let Yourself Go" when watching this beauty! Many thanks for posting this clip

  • 5 don't know any better.. STOMP THIS YARD>>>Lol!!!!

  • It's heartening to see that so many teenagers appreciate this and are bored or frustrated with the music and films of the past decade or two. Fred Astaire was the best dancer I've ever seen, he and Ginger were the perfect team... they made complicated dance routines look so easy. I loved the songs then too and Fred's voice and he's delivery of them is spot on. I love the CD Fred Astaire's Finest Hour, I can't stop playing it

  • i really admire Ginger Rogers She had to do all the same steps as Fred Astaire but often backwards and in high heels!

  • they are the best !

  • They just served all those kids in those stupid step up movies.

  • They were perfect together! When they move.....it almost like their feet floated. I couldn't imagine what it would have been like without Fred and Ginger!! I am only 33.....but I have made sure to pass on my love for this era of music/dance to my daughters. Nothing will ever be in comparisson to it, and what a shame it is that some grow up without never knowing what real music and dance really is!

  • Don't worry folks, these two magnificient dancers will perform for you when it is your time to leave. You just have to ask them. :-)

  • oh to be one of those beautifully dressed bystanders getting to see that live & in color :) I'm 21, & trying to find any of the clothes that make these scenes that much more beautiful on my budget is impossible... wouldn't mind raiding a Ginger Rogers museum closet :D

  • did those other couples really think they stood a chance? XD Fred and Ginger Rock!

  • génial ! j'adoooore!

  • I feel the same

  • im 17 years old n i feel like i was born in the wrong era too!! luv the old classic movies and music!!! friends tell me that i don't belong in this generation lol

  • i saw this film for the first time when i was 9 or 10 ever since then ive known what i want to do with my life, so you can imagine how i felt when i was in an interview for joining the 6th form section of my school ( an performing arts 6th form) and they asked if id ever thought about taking english a level and having a career outside of the theatre. some people obviously dont know what its like to be so sure of something at a young age, guess im one of the lucky ones.

  • i wish i could dance like ginger

  • Please, somebody, upload "I'd Rather Lead a Band" from the same movie.

  • Simply magical......

  • This is one of the best dance in the world! And of course the best dancers!!!

  • 5 DISLIKES? FOR WHAT REASON?

  • @02chevyguy

    they couldn't let themselves go

  • This was in an era when dancing was dancing and music was music. Both were SENSATIONAL!

But, in this day and age, how the hell are you supposed to dance to RAP???

  • They simple rock :D

  • My god...Im freaking 16 looking at these freaking classics...If i could only move like THAT...

  • WOW back then you actually needed talent to make it big.

  • Why can't we have movies like this nowadays? My favorite of all of the Astaire-Rogers films is "Swing Time."

    I was born too late...

  • I'm a 24 year old DJ and every time I'm out in the club DJing and I put on some swing music from this era, people lose it on the dance floor! Love this music.

  • I don't like dance. But, this is amazing!

  • I've meet Gingers in Paris when she was doing a show .She was nearly sixty nine

at the time She was not a great singer but she had the star quality something you can' define a real pro and a very charming lady . anice souvenir for me

    Jmb

  • THE BEST OF THE BETTER

Wooowww times what never go back...so shame.

  • sick move at 0:27

  • Ginger rules. Say what you will about Fred's later partners, there's a reason why people still talk about Fred and Ginger. She's his mirror opposite. She's everything he is, and isn't, she meets him everywhere he goes. Go Ginger!

  • @Gryphonalia Thers'a a classic line about Ginger: she could do everything that Fred could do, and do it backwards, while wearing high heels.

  • love this movie have on dvd

  • I want to be in a swing classes so bad! I love the 1940s. it,s to bad that no one in my school knows what I am talking about :(

  • I want to be in a swing classes so bad! I love the 1940s.

  • Love Ginger's outfit here and of course their dancing!

  • @UnholyxBlood and @BrokenBulletteam i am 13 and grew up on this. It is a shame that all we hear on the radio is rihanna or something.

  • 75 Years of letting yourself go, of facing the music and dancing.

What more can you ask for?

  • Is it just me, or did Ginger look particularly sexy in pants?? If anyone reading this happens to have a recording of this tune by Ray Noble's orchestra (same year) PLEASE would they post it, as it is just phenomenal!

  • Incredible dance number-- for sure...

  • one word.......WOW!!!

  • Five people won't let themselves go.

  • Before Ginger even met Fred Astaire, she was an award winning dancer and had already made a name for herself. The rumors that Ginger was not one of Astaire's better dance partners are ridiculous and not true. Matter of fact, Fred has attributed much of their success to Ginger, and has done so numerous times. Their success goes beyond dancing abilities. They had that magic chemistry together that happens so rarely. Like they say, Ginger did every move Fred did, but backwards and in high heals.

  • @mdshullaw52

this routine alone illustrates how lame that old saying is. Ginger never does what Fred does backwards. Not once in the entire routine.

  • 5 people dont know real talent T.T

  • Say what you will about Fred and Ginger, but watch this or any other of their videos and then watch Holiday Inn or any other film where Fred dances with a more competent dancer that lacks the "it" quality Ginger brought to their teamwork. There's a reason why everybody talks about Fred and Ginger, and nobody talks about the great actresses and dancers who danced with Fred after Ginger.

  • 5 people are jealous!

  • How can anyone dislike this? To all the critics out their why don't you try performing this number, and let alone in those chunky heels Ginger was in LOL

  • @ladidacow1 The movie where that musical number comes from is Shall We Dance, and it's called Let's Call The Whole Thing Off. It's not actually in the snow though.

I suggest that you see it, because they do an absolutely incredible dance in roller skates straight afterwards.

  • these people in the party were lucky enough to see Fred and Ginger dance LIVE!

  • what ever happened to his sister Adele?

  • You did ask for a comment... I loved this video! It's another classic of Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger that should be shared with everyone. I remember when they were alive. I miss those days. Now we can relive them over and over again. Thank you for sharing.

  • People like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers should never die

  • I'm 17 years old and watching all these videos of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire just makes me think that I was born in the wrong decade >_<

  • @UnholyxBlood I know how you feel. I'm 14, And everything in this decade somewhate agrovates me. :/ I suggest you join Swing Classes. I'm on a Swing dancing team, and it's good fun. Perhaps if we all unite, we can fix up this era we live in.

  • @BrokenBulletteam Oh my gosh, I admire you! :D

  • @BrokenBulletteam I sing, And this is the only kind of music I can sing to, no auto tune necessary! I also belive that I was born in the wring decade/era. I should have benn in the 1920s or 1940s. And I am a pure rebel, considering that this is the fashion i prefer to dress in, none of that other stuff!

  • @BrokenBulletteam Count me in as well ^^

  • @BrokenBulletteam

    I couldn't agree more.

  • @UnholyxBlood that's because the film industry had a way better grip on the media back then.

  • @UnholyxBlood

I sooooooooooooooo understand how you feel...

  • @UnholyxBlood Agreed!!! I'm nearly 16 and I feel the same!!

  • @UnholyxBlood i'm the same age i totally agree with you!

  • @UnholyxBlood I feel the exact same thing.

  • @UnholyxBlood i TOTALLY understand where your coming from, i feel the same way. x

  • @UnholyxBlood here here. I'm 20, but what you bring up is a beat we can all dance to. unfortunately for people like us, it takes a great deal of the population to make it a good generation. but so long as I see someone else out there every now and then that stands for what's right, I smile with hope. =)

  • Comment removed

  • @UnholyxBlood i hear ya im 17 now and i keep aking myself : why!?

  • @UnholyxBlood same age and same situation! :D

  • @UnholyxBlood i'm sixteen and i'm in the same situation you are!

  • @UnholyxBlood Lol. I'm the exact same age and feel the exact same way. =0)

  • @UnholyxBlood Don't you worry, youngster(s), you were born in the right decade for you. All of you will learn that as you get my age and appreciate ALL the decades --and the people in them--there ever were.

  • @UnholyxBlood All you kids have to do is tone-down the arrogance (in you AND around you) and the vulgarity. You will be surprised how much your appreciation of your life will go up.

You don't have to eliminate it around you--nor all quite within you--but "tone-it-down" is good enough. The more you remove arrogance from around you, the more you will not feel the alienation you (don't know you) are complaining about. And vulgarity will give way to self-(and others) respect.Try it! Try2BE NICE!

  • @UnholyxBlood: I know the feeling, 18 years old and prefering these MGM musicals, Disney, Tim Burton and Harry Potter to today's nonesense. This is just perfection, and I also think I was also born in the wrong decade too :/

  • @Aryankhan65 What Fred and Ginger films have you seen? Look at the Barkleys of Broadway or The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle or Roberta, then tell me she isnt versatile in her dancing as i recall in at least these three films she does several non tap dances.

  • I love all of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films, but the dancing, the music, the lyrics, and the jokes in "Follow the Fleet" make it my very favorite.

  • One thing that strikes me is how long this is for a dance sequence. Marvelous as they were, they hold our attention effortlessly. But it's long. I shudder to think of the rehearsals.

  • Wonderful. Thanks

  • Let's see ... how can I sum it up? Think I've got it ...

Fred & Ginger: Poetry in motion

Today's pretentious junk: Poultry in motion

  • @pnutbutrncrackers lol i think you hit the nail on the head bro :D

  • Wonderful.....

  • que buen gusto que tienes!!!! gracias a tu buen gusto por el arte puedo disfrutar de este video que no tiene nada que ver con los horribles bailes de ahora!!!

  • Amazing what an extraordinary performance of dance within about three minutes!

    exceedingly impressive and amusing:)

  • Ginger can do nothing else except tapping! I guess Cyd Charisse, Ann Miller and Vera Ellen are more great dancer than Ginger Rogers! All of the Ginger Rogers dances are tapping, she was never a versatile dancer. But Cyd, Ann and Vera did so many different and beautiful dances and always proved their versatility.

So every-time same kind of tap dancing makes peoples a bit bore!! Ginger Rogers dances are sometimes very much boring. But the dances of Cyd, Ann and Vera are always great to watch.

  • @aryankhan65 ELEANOR POWELL is the one who was all tap. Ann Miller"s specialty was tap

Look at the rest of the Fred and Ginger movies, you spoke too soon.

  • @BOBLA90069, I actually haven't watched that much of Eleanor Powell, so no words about that!

Yea its correct that Ann's specialty was tapping but she have shown us much more than tapping too in many of her films including some like Hit The Deck where she did two beautiful dances without tapping and a beautiful flamenco dance with Cyd and Ricardo in film Kissing Bandit and many others too!

But probably Ginger never proven her versatility except tapping! All of her films just have tap dancing!!!!

  • @aryankhan65 your comment is very ignorant.

  • American Stepdance that's it !

  • This is true heaven ... watching these two - they were pure magic !

  • One word...MAGIC

  • Os musicais modernos deviam fazer um revival desses antigos...aliás...deviam se transformar neles de novo.

  • Simply great. Almost as from another planet...

  • That is so cool.

I'm surprised Ginger Rogers didn't break her heels and sprain her ankle. I surely would have.

  • I still love the quote: "Ginger had to do everything that Fred did, except backwards and in high heels."

  • One of their best tap routines. Thanks for posting.

  • @MoonStarDutchess your ears bleed when you hear swearing? Fuck...

  • por qué ahora no se puede disfrutar de estas maravillas. AMO EL CINE MUSICAL !!!!!!!

  • The other couple just got PWND.

  • Now THIS is 'dancing with the STARS'!

  • Love it!

  • Wow, they both have legs for miles....

  • Awesome!!!! which 1 is the movie where they r singing in the snow and its lk u like potatoes and i like potatoes and he says them different ways? well if u know what i'm talking bout can u plz tell me?

  • @ladidacow1 Its Shall We Dance :))

  • @sleepyhead246 ok and is that the name of the song i'm thinking about?

  • @ladidacow1

I think u r thinking of two different movies. In "Swing Time" they sing in the snow. The potatoe song ("Lets call the whole thing off") is sung in the movie "Shall we Dance" but they r singing it in a roller skating rink, not snow.

  • @lotrlovermr Though potatoes do get mentioned as well in the lyrics of "A Fine Romance," the number in the snow in "Swing Time." The line is, "We should be like a couple of hot tomatoes/But you're as cold as yesterday's mashed potatoes." The marvelous Dorothy Fields came up with that.

  • @lotrlovermr oh ok ya i get it thanks

  • Along with everything this man has ever done - absolutely fabulous!!

  • If you didn't already notice it, Fred's chewing gum AND dancing at the same time. Now that's what I call TALENT! :)

What is that odd dance step they're doing at 0:47? The penguin?

  • Goddamn. Fred & Ginger are OG's.

I'd like to see the people on So You Think You Can Dance try this.

  • Amazing!

  • Pure poetry in motion! Thanks for posting!

  • thank you for posting such sharp footage of the most amazing dancers in the universe!!!!!!!!

  • Icons of the cinema

  • Follow The Fleet! <3

  • Great Irving Berlin song. Fred & Ginger are THE GREATEST!! Thanks for posting.

  • I just love Fred.

  • My God!! how good they were!! Is a long and difficult dance sequence, incredible

  • Fred Astaire is just a GOD.

    Ginger is a perfect partner.

These two know how to dance.

  • wow I love it soo much

  • It doesn't get better than this... Fred and Ginger...WOW!!!

  • Thanks for the post. Saw this one al the way through Saturday night--an absolute gem. Just wish Astaire and Rogers had ten made more movies to enjoy!

  • @papaT10932 Why the hell was this marked as spam?

    You are 100% correct.

"Dance" today is basically sex with clothes on!

  • Its a shame that young people today don't have entertainers like these two to admire. What is dancing today? Grinding and mosh pits. What has become of the world?

  • @papaT10932 ssssoooooo true.

  • Oh boy you gotta love them together. They were wonderful together. Thank you for posting this. I strive to be as good of a dancer and Ms Ginger. Thanks!

  • They are athletes of the first order and artists beyond compare!

  • @Hoontasan 10 out of 10 for your observation.

  • ahah

  • AMAZING

  • POUR UN PREMIER COURS DIFFICILE a SUIVRE AVEC FRED

  • too good, i adore them...

  • Hah. How things have changed. It's not hard to miss the good old days, even when these ones are before my time.

  • This is one of their all time best numbers! I don't know if you've read Arlene Croce's book, "The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Book," but she states that part of what makes this movie so enjoyable is how much Ginger had increased her range as a dancer at this point in their movies.

I made a modern day Fred and Ginger style short film, "Red, Black & Blonde," and posted a clip on my page if you want to check it out! I'm hoping to make it into a feature. :)

  • fred astaire, ginger rogers dance on air(8)

  • Now that is how it's done! A dance-off against Fred and Ginger? Haha um, just give up guys, they're kind of unbeatable! :)

  • Damn I'm speechless. Cannot fathom how they could move like that...real talent. Don't we all wish the 'Golden Age" was still among us?

  • Boy when those two were together... it's like explosion of talent, really, really incredible. :)

  • this is magic, it is simply the most amazing thing ever created!!!!!!

fred and ginger are artist beyond anything!!!!! i love dace and these people soooo much!

  • i hope these videos never dissapear! we must cherish them forever.

  • You know what? If Ginger could, so can I! I've been inspired! I'm gonna learn to tap dance!!!!!!!!

  • @vintagefan92 you go girl!

  • It's interesting to see in this column that I'm not the only one who feels this little 'quiet' number was one of their very best. Others are are more celebrated and were bigger productions, but that doesn't = better. This dandy sparkles. Plus I really like the tune, which helps considerably. Nothing done today in the name of dancing comes remotely near.

    My 2¢.

  • Oh How I LOVE this! Amazing! ty

  • I spent 5 year in the Navy and I gotta say Fred make those "cracker jacks" look good.

  • who here is a teenager like me but wishes some aspects of ''that time'' were still here today :)

  • I am 14 years old, and I can't stop watching these things. I started checking out Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger's videos in the past few days, but I ABSOLUTELY love them. I can't stop dancing around the house :)

  • @TheCorrsFriends I'm with you!!!!! hehe :-]

  • @TheCorrsFriends: haha i'm 16 and your right and these two are amazing 2gether! you should watch the movie "Top Hat" some of their best work is in that movie :)

it's so sad how sync tap dancing its almost a dead talent now. :(

  • @TheArtfulShow

    Me! me!

  • I really love "Swing Time" and "Top Hat", but this is my favorite dance routine out of all the ones they did together. So precise, beautifully choreographed and executed.

  • i agree with your comment 100 percent. this number has always looked to me, playful, simple, and fun. both of their legs look completely "fluid."

ginger's body could match any actress today. gosh they were special.

  • @hm1107g I don't thinks there is anyone around today who could match these two. In those days they had talent and class. Didn't have to walk around butt naked and endure these damned sex scenes. I just stick with the oldies. Suits me just fine.

  • So fluid - they make it look so easy. Makes me want to break out in dance myself except I can't dance and now I'm depressed about it. (Sigh...) Oh well - I'll just have to dance vicariously through Ginger.

  • It was also Ginger amazing acting that mad their movies so wonderful. She acted the way girls felt about Fred. Lets not forget their amazing chemistry.

  • Im 22 and love this. Wish Hollywood would make more movies like this. There will be no one like them again. They are angels. Could we stop insulting Ginger or Fred? What make them special are them together. Their movies would have not been the same without each other. Ginger did good dancing without having much training when they started out. It goes without saying Fred was amazing dancer.

  • I never knew that. Thats sad :( How did you find that out?

  • @davidglow3 This comment is entirely untrue. They had an amazing friendship which lasted.

May I suggest David that you read Miss Roger's autobiography and take note of Mr Astaire's comments when he received his lifetime achievement award. You should be ashamed of yourself.

They both had a tremendous respect and love for each other which is evident in their work.

I had the privilege of personally knowing Miss Rogers and for you to sully her memory in this way is terrible.

  • Simply amazing.

  • I like the movie "Follow The Fleet". I think Fred & Ginger made a dynamic couple. They got their start in the movie "Flying Down To Rio"

The majority of the sailors you see in the movie clip came from the US Naval station Long Beach.

  • I love this routine (and the song) so much - possibly my favourite FA & GR sequence, especially the synchronization during the side-by side swaying - amazing!

I really only really discovered Fred Astaire this past year and he never ceases to amaze me - he's in a a class all his own!

  • Now that is what I call Exceptional Wow standard professionalism! It was so good I was spellbound.................

  • When I was born Fred Astaire was 41 years old but I still got to see quite a bit of his career. Fred and Ginger were the best dance couple I have ever seen and Fred the best male dancer. I don't think there will ever be a match for them.

  • I love classic movies like these. This one is one of my favorites!

  • Thats a 10 from me.

  • I think this is my favorite Ginger and Fred movie. :0)

  • These two are golden!

I wish so much to have been alive when Fred was.. I was born long after he died...

Fred Astaire is my absolute favourite!!! I love everything he does!!! <3

  • What a great dancing pair. This episode was trully wonderful. We don't get stars or talent like this anymore. Thanks for posting.!
