like richard stallman actually has done anything for the linux kernel. His own project, the GNU kernel had its last release in 1997 and was version 0.2. His insistence on using the term GNU/Linux its nothing more than a joke, linux can and mostly does operate with little to nothing from his project.

The fact that the guy is the poster child for linux is rather sickening, he's a washed up hack.

The man who started Linux says Linux wouldn't have been possible without the GNU C compiler etc etc.. So it should be called gnu/linux and linus is happy to say so...what have you done for the linux community?

@CooperZ2 Hurd isn't even his project and its latest stable release was in 09. The reason GNU started was to write heaps of code that would be free from restrictive licenses - Linux does that so isn't it quite nonproductive to continue with Hurd when they could continue with Linux? Basically every software distribution uses the Linux kernel (compiled with gcc) with the GNU system, I think you're mislead in saying that the Linux kernel mostly operates without anything from GNU.

So, you can buy your copy of the latest Windows; but you can use, for instance, Notepad++ instead of WordPad, because it's much more complete and powerful as a text editor. And it's free software!
