thank for the upload, i used to own this Ultra Magnus toy truck when i was a child, bringing back sweet memories. but up til now i thought it was a Optimus Prime toy. i wish i still had it, is it possible to find one?

Yep, the movie. Before "The Return of Optimus Prime" there were no TV episodes featuring both Magnus and Optimus.

Did you mean Magnus and Optimus, amartinez97? If so, then the answer to your question is that Optimus died in the movie, which introduced us to Ultra Magnus. So the following season had Ultra Magnus and Rodimus Prime, but not Optimus. Optimus was given life again at the end of the season in a two-part episode called "The Return of Optimus Prime".

@gcd134 Im sorry I'm kinda late with this response. It's crazy but there is 1 Episode of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus together before Transformers the Movie. But It's To Set up the Movie premier in Japan. They Explain it on the 25th Anniverary DVD of Transformers the Movie. But it's just Really a Summary to catch them up to the Movie than a Real Episode.

@gcd134 Unless you count the first Japan exclusive cartoon, Scramble City, which sort of took the place of TF the Movie, as it wasn't released there until about 1990 for some reason. Scramble City is unfortunately the most blatant half hour toy commercial in G1, but you do get to see Op and Magnus shake hands at the end, and animated but toy-accurate Metroplex and Trypticon.

i think at one time hasbro was going to have ultra magnus as a reformatted optimus prime or prime with battle armor but when producers of the move requested to kill him off they jumped at the opprtunity to create a new character just a crazy thought of mine but it makes sense

eh no. they always were gonna kill off prime, but the toy makers didnt have access to the script i guess and so they made Ultra magnus just another commander. Just like the Galvatron toy was gonna be just another decepticon city commander.

They weren't "always" going to kill off prime.

Transformers didn't become anything remotely resembling a serialized show until Beast Wars.

Before then, there was no "big plan". The movie came along, and they decided to kill him. No one knew before then.

In the movie, Ultra Magnus was played by veteran actor Robert Stack, who was hired just for the movie. In the commercials, as in the TV series, he was played by Jack Angel.

i agree, i think people like these commercials more because it doesn't say diaclone and they understand it but look at the "early Ultra Magnus video" vid in the related section...that's just crazy!

@2346 A small child messing around. And an adult stumbling around might impale their foot (did that once on a broken pair of headphones). It's not just about poking the eye, though. The protruding full-length stacks are vulnerable to being broken, and the snapped-off ends constitute a choking hazard. Also, you know how Optimus is supposed to be able to drive into his folded-up trailer? With full-length stacks there's only just enough clearance. If the roof of the trailer has sagged, forget it.
