Stupid Americans! They build wooden houses in areas that are prone to hurricanes. Then they act shocked when the houses get blown away. Why don't they make concrete building like people do in places such as Okinawa and the Caymen Islands? Instead they just keep rebuilding every year. Morons!

Actually, concrete buildings can be quite beautiful. You would be amazed to see would builders are doing with concrete in Okinawa. They can even make it look exactly like wood with a grain pattern. And of course, concrete can be molded into any shape and so some people are very creative with it.

Yes, there is insurance in the U.S. But every year everyone's insurance rates go up because of the unending stupidity of a few. All homeowners pay for those houses that get rebuilt every year.

I am pretty sure even the concrete houses would have there roofs off, because the hurricane does not blow the roofs off with the wind, but rather the extremely low pressure outside, and the high pressure inside, cause a pulling effect, much like when your ears pop. So i really don't think the houses would make much of a difference, unless you solve the air pressure problem, which i think they do build certain houses for that can withstand a hurricane, but i don't think concrete is the answer.

For me, this hits close to home. I live near the coast in Louisiana and we recently have been hit by Gustav and Ike. Our family stayed near Shreveport in a motel. Katrina and Rita 3 years ago were terrible. My sister, mom and dad rode out Rita. All they remmember was a long, dark nightmare of wind and rain. Trees were felled in the yard and roofs were blown off houses. I was living in Shreveport at the time. No one was killed but never take chances with these deadly storms!

Tornados are more dangerous than hurricanes. Tornado winds are far more severe and destructive. The thing with hurricanes is that hurricanes do more widespread structural damage whereas tornados only destroy everything in it;s path. lso with hurricanes, the main problem with them is flooding.
