I always thought it was Nastia with the execution? And the artistry. But it's Shawn who throws in the difficulty. Nastia get's medals with tiny A scores because she often receives so few deductions (besides on bars).

And this isn't the EF, it's qual. Carly Patterson was a beauty on beam, can't say too much about her other elements, but a beautiful beam worker.

part of the reason she messed up at trials was by this time her back was shot and she was in alot of pain that is why she retired

shawn johnson is very mechanical in her skills. she isn't elegant or alluring in her routines. I love her but I think other gymnasts need more credit that shawn because they have so much more artistry in their skills than shawn and thats important to have in gymnastics - not just power.

@Cabess12 yes it should be a sport i love gymnastics, i do gymnastics, and proffesional gymnasts rarley break their necks, if you really love the sport you will go to any heights to acheive your goals. So i don't think you really have a say in any of that, and the medal is more then just a medal an olympic medal is a medal that symbolizes all your hard work and sacrafices you overcame to get one

This isn't the EF routine. I'm positive bc this isn't the leo she wore in the EF. She didn't stick the landing in the EF routine, which is what cost her the gold. I think this was the qualification routine.

@kristavahey Um, have you seen Catalina Ponor's routine? Not only was she flawless, but she made her outrageous difficulty look easy. Catalina defintely earned her gold; not just here on beam, but all 3 of her Olympic golds :)

Carly has better amplitude and execution than Shawn. They both have very choppy styles, but Carly does everything textbook on beam. And you want to see a real CLASSIC beam worker, look at Nastia.

Shawn is better at beam then Nastia any day. Her routine is also on of the most difficult in the world and she is able to perform it almost flawless

Ummm... Nastia has won more beam titles than Shawn in national and international competitions combined, so you're obviously wrong based SOLELY on credentials. Second, Shawn's routine may be difficult, but her execution leaves much to be desired when it comes to the artistic elements of balance beam (e.g. inadequate split in her leaps).

Then, you choose a balance beam worker that doesn't exemplify the standards of artistic gymnastics. You appear to like power gymnastics... more in the vein of athleticism than artistry. The sport is called "artistic gymnastics" for a reason. Shawn Johnson defies that reason. She's not an artist, she's an athlete... and a damn good one at that. However, WAG is AND SHOULD BE about more than tricks.

I don't know how you can say you hate someone you don't even know. It makes no sense to me that people find ways to pick apart a gymnast that was so dynamic and consistent. Carly was clearly the more complete all-around gymnast compared to Khorkina, and I much prefer Patterson!
