I am Italy fan but the penalty against the socceroos(wich I love as well) was definetly not fair!

The penalty was justice, when you consider Italy was playing with 10 players against 11 vs Australia. That red card early in that game was NOT fair either. Italy was still the better team and proved it obviously as the tournament went on.

Penalties aren't supposed to be awarded to even out team numbers, though. Yes, the red was too harsh, but a penalty for a blatant dive in the dying seconds was much harsher and furthermore unfair.

If you watch that play carefully you'll see it actually was the defenders fault. Even the Aussie commentators said you never leave yourself on the ground in penalty area against an attacker with the ball. It's only become a "so called" bad call after Italy went on to win the Cup. I think the Malouda dive in the 1st half of the final for France was much more blatant.

True, wrong tackle for the situation. Still a dive, though (albeit a convincing one). If you look at the incident using a perspective along the line of Neill's tackle, there is no contact. Match commentators noted the error immediately, but it didn't receive widespread attention until it became clear that the incident had allowed Italy to win the cup. Not that I blame the ref - he couldn't have picked it.

And, yes, Malouda's was far worse

I'm glad you are fair about the Malouda dive. I still feel Italy would have beaten Australia even without penalty though. Tradition i guess. And i honestly think without the 1st half red card it wouldn't have come to that anyway. But we'll never know.

Without the red, Italy would've surely won. The penalty was against the flow of play for the entire half, though. But, like you said, we'll never know. That's how it goes.
