  • What sort of voice is Garfunkel's? It's so ethereal, so pure, that it's like an angel's voice.

  • They sing so much honesty.

  • I wonderful sad song. I think anybody with a sadness or feeling of loss can identify with it. For me, it's a heart break. The leaves of our love turned to brown and died.

  • I'm 468 years old which by default means I instantly know about how good music is along with everyone else my age or older, if only I could be one of those young ones that 'get' what's going on, then I would be a true individual.

  • All these comments bout how old you all are are irrelevant. You can be 5 and like this music and 95 and like this music. It has nothing to do with how old you are.

  • Wow They look like 2 guys just trying to make it.

  • I'm 16 now but i never can't help feeling sad when i hear this song.

  • @luvart2607 I was 16 when I first heard this. You really need to listen to this on a "Vinyl" Not all of life is happy espcially the teen and twenties.It comes across more balanced on a record,- It is the truth and it's pretty and these guys are legends! ick a list for rainy days ,sad days, in love days and don't ever stay down for too long.Buy the Best of Simon and Garfunkel- you won't regret it:}

  • @bobmon54 Oh, thanks for suggestion. I have already been their fan :)) I love them so much. Nothing can beat those 2 guys with the guitar.

  • i love them too, the way they put feelings into their guitar playing is amazing.....

  • There's an oak tree outside of my window that is already turning red, and it's only mid-August. It's true that "time hurries on" because it seems like just yesterday that the tree was just getting it's leaves. Fall is almost here, but yet I'm okay with that.

Leaves that are green turn to brown.

  • i was twenty-four years when i heard this song; i'm forty-three now and i won't be for long--and time hurries on...

  • @kogcc I'm 43 as well, and the older we get, the quicker the years seem to pass. Sad but true!

  • any dislikes of this are simply ears that cant process genius music -- nothing half this pure will ever be written again

  • would love to know when this concert is dated to....

    thanks in advance...

  • He uses a thumbpick... awesome! :D

  • oh my god I love this so much....its even better than the studio version wow

  • @Substitute421 this version of this song is the best i ever heard too

  • Still love you Paul yor mom was a grat neighbor remember Mrs. Price PS 154

  • he sure isn't 21 anymore.

well, the leaves that were green turned to brown.

  • @ugoodHomeBoy Haha but at least he's still making good albums! :)

  • I love Arty very much and he has the voice of an angel, but the maintained eye contact is a little unnerving :D

  • @carolinavictim They are so metal.

  • I think Paul Simon is the most underrated songwriter of all time. Dylan ain't got shit on him.

  • I'm 15 years old. And honestly...I question whether any other duo will be as deep and as special as Simon and Garfunkel was. Their music is so amazing, and I can't find anything like it. I wish I'd been around when they were touring.

  • @yaldah1995

Hey man try Kings Of Convenience

there the closest things to Simon and Garfunkel

there fantastic but of course not as good as S A G

  • @MyFrankbooth I'll definitely check them out! Thank you! :D

  • @MyFrankbooth nice one, not trio wise but I will say iron & wine has some major similarites as well as fleet foxes with the harmonies. great music is still alive just burried a bit.

  • @yaldah1995

    they ARE touring

  • @yaldah1995 try fleet foxes and iron & wine

  • Such brilliant insight at an age when most of us were just looking for the next party, the next illusion and the leaves that are green turn to brown.

  • Garfunkel keeps on looking at the camera lol

  • "Paul looks like spock"... funny, but I was thinking that Art looked a lot like Doogie Houser! My but they were so young! I shouldn't say that though... this recording was 4 years before I was born. Great music is timeless though, as it should be.

  • A portrait of Genius !

  • It's kind of funny, you hear those iconic 3 words "Simon & Garfunkel". To think they started out in the 60s just 2 guys and a guitar, and now are known for being possibly the most beat, greatest artists ever. Songs like "Sound Of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" it's quite amazing. They are possibly the biggest inspiration in my life!

  • Thank you for making my life so much richer, Simon & Garfunkel.....

  • Every great Simon & Garfunkel song has at least one line that just sticks to me like the smell of cigarette smoke. In this one it's "Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl; I held her close but she faded in the night, like a poem I meant to write". Sends a chill down my spine every time I hear it!

  • @Waspinators Hey, yeah! Absolutly that is what I feel too, when I'm listning to songs by simon and garfunkel :-)

  • it's my birthday this morning, and this song made my day.

  • I had no idea Rick Moranis played guitar with Garfunkel in the 60's... He looks strange without his glasses tho... A bit like Paul Simon actually. Oh...

  • you know...the music of Simon and Garfunkel will forever be inseparable from my favorite place on earth and from my father. Good mood, bad mood, their music always seems to be able to take me away

  • Hello hello hello hello, goodbye good bye good bye goodbye...that's all there is...

  • i love how amidst their amazing talent they always have a slight air of being suprised to find themselves in the spotlight

  • "Yes, yes indeed. Some Simon and garfunkel for my science projects" thought the guy stroking his beard at the begining ogf the video...

  • es genial, y no es de ls que mas se oyen

  • A sad but beautiful song.

  • a song that makes u a bit sad , but u feel good 2 b alive, and able 2 still feel...

  • One of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel tunes. The live version is even better than the studio version.

  • Holy mackeral, are they *young* here! Just shows you could have a bad haircut and still write great music.

  • Absolutely lovely performance. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • I'm in a band and i write songs myself so trust me when i say this, these two are wizards of music, but paul simon, in particular, i believe, is the greatest musician of all time.

  • This song made me cry when I was twentyone. Everything seemed sad and difficult; thank you, Paul, you were my Guardian Angel through all that storms. <3

  • Simply fantastic.............that is all.

  • A type of "These Days" by Jackson Browne in that certain people in life realize from an early age how precious and fleeting life is and not only grasp that but LIVE IT.

  • Ah, this captures the feeling of the 'quarter life crisis' so well. I am twenty four, and I feel that I won't be young much longer.

  • @unknownkingdom You are, don't be afraid! x I felt the same at your age. It's not true. Now I am 47, I feel afraid, though I know when I will be 70 I will think: ''Oh my god, how young you had been in 2010!''

Just relax and enjoy your youth, whole life has only just begun :)

  • magic

  • Unforunately....

Neither you nor I will ever hear music like this again.

  • Two singers --

and a guitar. Perfect harmony. Incredible song.

No need for "other" music or "dancers" or distraction.

Um... I believe they would define this song... this video as

PURE music at the ultimate artisitc level.

  • i always hear how sad or depressing Simon and Garfunkel's songs are......negative or not............i just feel happy when i listen no matter what mood im in

  • Excellence. I'd love to meet either of them - Both would be awesome

  • ya know what sucks? being 14 and being one of few that really understand what music SHOULD be. and having other kids be like ".....wtf" when i say i like the beatles, the animals, michael jackson, simon and garfunkel, ect. These are the people play REAL music

  • @DancerlifeXOXO the exact same for me , im 14 and my year in school dont even know who these guys are , it sickens me

  • @DancerlifeXOXO how can you compare michael jackson with beatles, animals, simon & garfunkel ? :OO

  • @DancerlifeXOXO don't worry about it-just like what you like and let them

  • @DancerlifeXOXO You are lucky to have a good taste in music my friend. Today, the young people decide to settle with what is fed to them through the radio and other media forms....but...you are doing well with your music choices for sure...so one day when you have children of your own...you can show them this music and they will understand the same feelings that you are having now when you hear this music.

Best of luck my young friend

    -Zachary-

  • Fucking Hell! No wonder the boys are struggling! Looks like a roomful of fucking mathematicians!

  • I remember hearing them play this song live in Detroit. So good.

  • One of my favourites of Simon and Garfunkel

  • My favourite of all their brilliant work

  • the most sensual song iv ever eard

  • beautiful sound, beautiful lyrics..... makes one aware that everything is fleeting... time most of all

  • yes the crowd wouldn't have known that this band would be performing in 2010 in front of 30,000 or more people. 45 years after this performance.

  • its funny how the crowd has no idea that the band theyre watching are going to shape music forever,

  • Such a beautiful song like always. Simon & Garfunkel are genius.

Lyrics remind me of Time from Pink Floyd. A song about how the time in your life flys past you quicker then you realize. Life is too short so make the best everyone. Because quick enough the leaves that are green turned to brown.

  • Whoa, that's deep.

  • The leaves that are green turn to brown...

    How very true!

  • if you go on youtube and you click on all of there studio albums it tells you the person who wrote the songs. and 99% were written by P.Simon

  • beautiful, oh my gosh, no one writes songs like this anymore!! love it x

  • i notice here he sings "like a poem i meant to write" - the first time i heard this song was on their "old friends" dvd, and he sang "like a song i meant to write". wonder why he changed it...

  • If you listen to the Paul Simon Songbook, which he recorded in June 1965 and featured this song, he actually says "poem". The original word was always "poem."

  • ah. that's interesting, thanks!

  • throughout history poems/songs are interchangeable words... poems were written to be sung up until modern times, just an interesting tid bit for ya ;)

  • I can not agree with your first statement. In early time poems may have been read accompanied by music. The two were just happenstance. In today's world these are two separate genre, Tho sometimes closely related. The use of words are governed by two distinct sets of rules and considerations. Throughout history can cover millions of years and thus is way too much time to be considered in such a short statement.

  • I have noticed the same in a number of his songs. I cannot explain why, it may be that commercial considerations had some thing to do with it. Also I have noticed that it is some what detrimental to the meanings of the pieces. But I guess as long as we know what the original world were we can just ignore these anomalies.

  • That´s maybe cause he doesn´t consider himself as a poet......I think he his!!

  • one thought i had was that maybe the original lyric was in some way influenced by art garfunkel (a poet) - please note i said influenced by, not written by! - and paul changed it during the time when they were apart...? just a guess... probably nonsense... lol

  • Hi again ! maybe you´re right but I can´t share it because ( as I know) the only one who wrote all the lyrics was P.Simon.......for me ( personally ) the only one poet in the duo was Simon...

Who knows? maybe they just changed the word by mistaken.ha ha !.....anyway we all love this song whatever the words are, don´t you think so?

    See you !

  • The best poet in my opinion!

  • @goldenslumbers01

I don't think that I could agree with you more. I have seen Paul Simon songs in poetry textbooks. There is no doubt that he is one of the greatest American poets of our time.

  • this is a timeless song, just incredible how they can do this so simple and so beautiful

  • im 22 now but i wont be for long...

  • ditto.

  • simon and garfunkel are just amazing. not one song off of them is bad.

  • @personwhosnowboards I agree, since I can remember I have been listening to their music and I'm still not tired. I have almost all their albums and keep listening and listening, great music is rare. Thank you Simon, thank you Garfunkel

  • @personwhosnowboards

Ever heard "Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine"?

  • i'm 21 now, and these guys are now in their sixties....I guess they were telling the truth

    my days are numbered =(

  • Don't let it get to you: you have four decades or more to do something extraordinary or memorable. The song

is about the passage of time.

  • I just turned 22 and this song is so beautiful, but it makes me sad every time I listen to it. :(

  • I think he's just talking about the passage of time, as the next line in the verse suggests.

  • paul looks like spock a bit

    haha

    anyway

this music is what music should be...

  • @NiNtIEs4EvEr

    Art looks like Gary Busey!

  • @NiNtIEs4EvEr Art looks like Gary Busey!

  • try to feel

  • Funny comment! :)

  • beautiful, i don't think its sad. i think its touching and sweet :)

  • its beautiful but sad...its about how everything can sometimes change regardless if we are ready or not.

change is inevitable and things rarely last forever...

  • Oh yeah, I almost forgot, what kind of guitar is Paul playing? If it's a Martin, what model?

  • Holy Sh#t they were great! If i could sing, write songs, or play guitar half as well as Paul Simon I'd be a happy dude, dudes...

  • they ARE great!! :D

  • I say "were great" because Paul never plays like that any more. At least I haven't seen it...

  • I saw Simon & Garfunkel 2 days ago in concert and they were as great as ever.

  • They're still playing together in tours?

  • pirate, yes, and they sound as good as ever!

  • What show was this from?

  • Absolutely amazing song. Paul's technical skills on the guitar have always been unique.

  • Oh really really thank you to you dear friend, its really a big help for me, thank you so much to you, youre so good... millions of thank you from me..

  • please send me the lyrics of this song..

I really like to know this song..

  • Paul Simon is a genius! And wouldn't be the same without Arty's voice!

  • this version in paricular is so beautiful: so quiet and understated but so true to life.

makes my eyes water every time

i'm so glad that my parents played s &g when i was younger :)

  • me too :)

  • so simple, calm, brief, perfect

  • Still with me after all years, never grows old, I know every word to every song, the stories they wrote and told, I still listen intently and sing along.......

  • same here, They are work of art that refuses to die! I also still listen intently and sing along....... and play their song unceasingly! I mean..just never get enough with them!

  • hey i love the music but i get kick at how the look at the camera, i want simon to look at garf. and look at him and give him the eye. iam i the only 1?

  • beautiful!

  • Pure poetry...

  • Oh, so beautiful! I had completely forgotten about this song. Haven't heard it in at least 10 years. So simple and profound - love it.

  • so nice!

  • greatest unplugged music, so pure & unpolluted, no such masterpiece nowadays

  • No need for fancy lighting, stage displays, melodramatic antics, backing groups and all the other trashy trinklets and electronics that underpin many of today's so called rock stars(musicians and singers).

Just pure talent, musicality and real soul.

    Sing on S&G.

You have made the world a better place and me a better person. Basil

  • @biltboard I'd agree... But Roger Waters puts on an incredible show along with amazing music. You can have both, but if you mean like Lady gaga and those other whor.. Artists, then yes. I agree.

  • artie has the most angellic voice, dont you think?

  • I totally agree with you. That's what I thought when I first heard him sing after I found Simon and Garfunkel on Youtube. Their voice blended so well together in harmony but Art got the most beautiful divine voice.

  • Art has a voice like an angel. :)

I heard a funny story once, can't remember where, but this guy, tripping on acid, heard S&G sing live at a 60s festival... years later he recalled it: "All I remembered was a small guy with a guitar and a a guy that sang and looked like an angel." LOL, it was a bit harsher than that, out of respect for paul I won't say, but it was hilarious.

  • psychedelicbird, I totally agree. I am instantly ashamed by my feeble attempts to "play" guitar when I watch Paul play.

    These guys are legends.

  • i want to learn to play the guitar like Paul.. amazing how he does fingerpicking..

  • Im convinced that Simon and Grafunkel are the best tihng the USA has ever produced, I cant begin to describe their significance, simply amazing.

  • Their mentors/idols, The Everly Brothers are darn good too. Check them out on YouTube.

  • So great.

  • absolutely beautiful, this is real class.

art garfunkel's harmonies are out of this world and still so unusual to this day. love them :)

  • so beautiful :(

  • and it's even better than the album version

  • i've always thought the same thing, with most of their live performances.

  • it's not sad, it's very melancholic

  • Just amazing.

  • this is real music.

  • Amen to that !

  • one of my favorite songs ever

  • It's so beautiful....

  • Unnecessary!!

  • brilliant, thanks mate!

  • brilliant, thanks mate!
