cool. how did he get the squirrely cane pattern in the final piece? It looked like a regular filigrana pull and rollup. I missed something.

the cane is spun in an optic mold ala reticello.

or in this case it appears he did it on the marver. i've never done a merletto, thats just how it was explained to me.
