With an incredible cast, brilliant writing, excellent directing and a fresh TRUE story, this dark wonderful indie film is truly worth your time. If you get the DVD, be sure to watch the special goodies which includes a CAST Q& A that's hysterical. If your a new writer or a rookie director, you guys will DEFINITELY want to study this one because its a model in the arts & sciences of good-old-fashioned movie making.

This was good. Robert isolates himself for 40 years because when he was young he fell inlove with a married women, the husband of the women found out, beat her with a hammer and set the house on fire. He throws a funeral party so settle all rumors and tell people the truth. It was great i liked it

@frickadele Didn't much feel like compiling a list, but if I must, I'd say some recent films of a more subtle, slow-paced variety (like this one seems to be) would be;

No Country For Old Men (classic), Children of Men (US/UK production), True Grit (2010), Gran Torino (An unexpectedly sombre drama), 3:10 To Yuma 2007 (maybe not the greatest, but a pretty solid, brooding western), The Aviator, The Departed (not really slow-paced, meh). Most 'great' dramas I hear about are US; Winter's Bone etc.

I just didn't see anything special in this film that made it seem great in contrast to other recent American releases. This is Oscar worthy movie making. Wayyy better than Kings Speech. Never even saw it in theaters, at all. Excellent performances from DuVall and Muarry. Sissy Spacek also. Beautiful looking film.  Sublime direction. A+

Not to diminish any achievement by the team which created The Living Wake, the film is a low-budget independent and at times looks it, and is ultimately very uneven. The folks who worked on Get Low are absolutely as top-notch as one can find, and is based on a true incident in 1938.
