  • 10-4, especially the one with the video play in a second floor bedroom and at the window. If you haven't heard any other before "Juice"'s version it would seem that it was specifically written for her[Juice],, her voice and the arrangement has not been surpassed - yet!,regards,

  • ok !! Good version ...

but Juice Newtons version is still the BEST !!!

  • Thank You, those camera phone shots were great.

  • For some reason everytime I hear this song comes to my mind my little daugther and I always for some unexplicable reason start to cry.

  • sorry but someone will have the Spanish translation?

  • THIS IS SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER VERSIONS!!!!!

    MERRILEE RUSH IS JUST STUNNING!!!!!!

  • any one have the follow up ,"Angel On My Shoulder (1970)'?

  • @barneyronnie- this was '68? i always thought it was an early '70's tune. nice to hear it again anyway

  • which is actually the best version of this song

  • definitive version...

  • Merrillee Rush rules!!

  • This and Juice Newton's are both equally excellent.

  • Others have done this song, But it is so pointless. The song has already been sung.

  • My favorite version and the best!!

  • This IS the original!. Thanks for the memories; I enjoyed it.

  • @lovesdoowop1 Evie Sands was the "original"

  • This is the US hit version! Wonderful.

  • 1968!

  • There is no other version than this one. Thank you for sharing this. And the pics are great. :)

  • Was it the Chad?!

It might of been the Chad

    ....it was the Chad

*drops plate of pancakes and falls in the lake*

    XD

  • This is the best version of this song by far. Thanks for putting it on here.

  • Fantastic song and the pics were really good.

  • The songwriter, Mr. Voight, is indeed the brother of actor John Voight--went by the name of Chip Taylor--he also wrote "Wild Thing".

  • This is by far the best version of this song IMHO.

  • I am ashamed there are other versions, imagine Juice Newton giving account on Judgemet Day

  • @memmies +n

  • @memmies What does that mean? And you should never be ashamed by musical variety & other artists doing their own interpretation of a song. I don't know about "Judgement Day," but I'm surprised to find out that you 're the one doing the preliminary judging. Thanks for clearing that one up for me...

  • There are other versions of this?

  • @takemeback2 No. There aren't.

  • Thank you I was having trouble finding the original artist this better than any of the others.

  • Im a man. And I belt this song to the top of my lungs every time i hear it.

  • Merrillee Rush OWNS this song! No other version comes even close!

  • Once in Seattle I walked onto this woman by mistake chasing my kids while i was singing this song,epic!!!.....Since then my little girl always sings this song for me and for the woman , she was Merrille Rush.

  • This song brings back a flood of memories--- :(

  • I MISS YOU...... 8..(

  • Every version of this song is very pretty and Juice Newton is a terrific singer but as I just said a minute ago, the first time I heard this song in my life was by Merrillee Rush, and she also is a great singer.

  • What a treat, the video, for sure, but hearing this song virtually for the first time in almost 40 years. Thank you. Major chills.

  • A beautiful song . Remember, when it was released in 1968.

  • This version is still the best (to my ears). Many have great versions of this song -- Juice Newton -- but Ms. Rush has the killer. Recorded with Elvis' Memphis studio band & nominated for a Grammy. (There's that word again). People can prefer other versions but that's what they are -- versions. Try to enjoy the song by the artist you like -- leave the comparisons at the door. You don't win awards for topping an original version. Most people remember Ms Rush having the hit.

  • Timesless piece of music and art

  • I don't care that most people think this one is the best. When it comes to songs, it's always a matter of opinion. I like Evie Sands' version WAY better. In fact I don't like this version at all.

    Peace.

  • Good version. But not even close to Juice Newton!

  • @dandydon777 You have to be kidding or don't know too much about a good singer

  • So this is the original of all the versions?

  • @konata00 yes it is the original and it has been out for yrs and yrs by marrillee Rush.

  • TOYOTA

  • Love this song! Thank you for posting it! Blessings!

  • My mother is now 75 years old. She has finished writing her autobiography. Each one of her eight children received a copy. My copy of her autobiography is now tear-stained. From my own tears. I would like to give it to you. May I, please?

  • Juice Newton's version is good, but it's not the original by M.R.

  • Mom is 75 now. She wrote her autobiography, and each of her 8 kids got a copy. Mine is tear stained, and I wish to give it to you.

  • @JosephDillon57 Wuold you like to explain?

  • @jdrock14 '

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;P

  • @JosephDillon57 Nobody knows what your talking about, would you like to elaborate on the subject???

  • Simply the best version ever!!!!!!

  • Simly the best version ever!!!!!!

  • una cancion sin madre , a toda madre , muchos recuerdos ¡¡¡¡¡

  • @narizoniz SPEAK ENGLISH!!!

  • I remember listening to this song by this artist while getting ready for elementary school . The other song that brings back fond memories is Love is Blue by Paul Maurait .

  • @altatoth1958 There is a nice video of Love is Blue here on youtube. Just type in Love is Blue.

  • Thank you for posting this version. I haven't heard it in years. Super! I also enjoyed the photos.

  • @tertius21 Thanks very much! I always loved this version. Glad you liked the photos too. ^_^

  • My first slow dance, middle school, 1969 or 70. With a young man named Billy. In Indiana....

  • it works

  • I like this version alot better than Juice's but everybody is entitled to their own opinion!

  • What a tear jerker for this old man so many years a go

  • Written by Chip Taylor, the same guy who wrote Wild Thing. Even more bizzarely, they both feature the same chord progression.

  • I think I actually like Juice Newton better for this song

  • juice's voice is better .

  • Yes, Merrillee Rush's original hit is by far the best version. THANKS for posting !

  • my mom used to sing this :/

  • Wonderful Song by Merrilee Rush.

My Darlin' I Want To Always Be Your "Angel Of The Morning"

"I'm So In Love With You".

    Yours Only Always,

    Your Little Angel, Robby

  • no es necesario el original esta no tiene igual "gracias"

  • Very good!

  • Very good!

  • Very good!

  • Very good!

  • Very good!

  • @asbpab1966. Your right Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Ponys sang it .Good stuff!

  • it is a beutiful song

  • this one could give juice a run for the money shes good sings from the heart

  • As a 50+er one wonders what happened to all the others that wandered down the road of this ethos. No I didn't but know a whole lot of really special people that did.

  • Just call me angel in the morning by Merrillee Rush and Gale Garnets "We'll sing in the sunshine" were ground breakers because they portray the woman chosing non-committal sexual lifestyles. Wether it was for a one night stand or a one year affair. The woman in charge of her sexuality!? That was bold stuff back then.

  • @honypoboy There was another song on that same theme called "Dancing to the beat of a Different Drum" which came out in the late 60's. I can't remember who sung it.

  • @asbpab1966 Are you talking about "You and I travel to the beat of a different drum/Can't you tell by the way I run everytime you make eyes at me...?" That's "Different Drum" by Linda Ronstadt & the Stone Poneys. The song was written by the one and only, my daughter's namesake & birthday twin, the great Michael Nesmith.

  • @MAMsMom97 Yes, that's the one. Great song.

  • @asbpab1966 Just played it on YouTube. It was indeed the song I was thinking of.

  • I was in Vietnam when this song came over Armforces Radio, it made me so homesick.

  • Not to take anything away from the other artists but this version is absolutely incredible, love it at 2:44.

  • I agree too .. this is the best version

  • man she was hot

  • The first time I heard this song she was doing it the a show called "Happening" hosted by Paul Revere and the Raiders. The show would come on in the afternoon on ABC I think the year was 1968.

  • The first time I heard this song she was doing it the a show called "Happening" hosted by Paul Revere and the Raiders. The show would come on in the afternoon on ABC I think the year was 1968.

  • shaggy....

  • no disrespect but this is anything but a sweet song, not saying I don't like it because I do, but she's talking about a one night stand. (read the lyrics)

  • Sweet song. My dates always seemed to swoon when this played on the radio. Wow. Those were sweet evneings for sure. I wish today we had more of these songs. Oh, well. It is what it is. My time has passed.

  • One of those magical songs from my childhood.

If you grew up on this version, you'd like it better than Juice Newton's. But if you grew up with Juice's version, you'd like that one better. I grew up with Merrillee Rush's, so naturally I favor that version. Juice did a good job, also.

  • Hey Merrillee - I dated your cousin.

  • enlightened 147 andphoenix311987: awesome posts. So true.

I took a "bite of that apple" . Now how to spit it out!!!

  • Sara',ma questo e' uno dei rari casi in cui preferisco la cover italiana

  • Michelle Larrere, if you happen to be listening to this song, please know that I am thinking about you and wondering where you are. Remember Library of Congress, year 1968... John

  • @pheonix,

What you've written is so beautifully said. I'm sorta in this situation now and your words are a direct bulls eye. Best wishes.

  • My favorite version is the one by Juice Newton

  • The definitive and only version of this song. Forget the others.

  • Are you an idiot or just retarded?

    Juice Newton sings this best.

  • Juice Newton does it better though. Sorry! :(

  • Ha. Get your ears checked buddy..

  • Stop being an idiot, DUMBASS.

  • @TheMikejk Precisely...only version that matters. Definitive.

  • @TheMikejk What others? See - I've already forgotten them!

    Juice Newton RULEZ!!

  • @TheMikejk Amen to that. The only version I ever care to listen to.

  • ahh love. The onrequited, unattainable kind. When you can only have a glimpse of it it makes it you want more. Better not to taste that apple if one bite is all you can ever have. This song is about the bitter sweetness of that chance encounter full of emotions and feelings yet signifying nothing. To sleep, perchance to dream. The thing is that this is a universal occurrence to the romantically inclined whether it actually happened or was just imagined.

  • Haha, my mom is good friends with Merrillee Rush

  • The first, and the best;

but the inspiration for a host

    of worthy reinterpretations.

("By their fruits ye shall know them...")

  • Thank you for making and posting this :)

  • Merilee is still a looker. My guitar when I was 14 fellas. All analogue. basic 5 players done in Seattle and the rest in LA. Mid 60's. Fun lives we had then.

  • Romantic song

  • I love this song but there is very little romance involved in it.

The music is soothing but what exactly is romantic about sleeping with an involved man that's in a hurry to get back to his girlfriend before you wake up in the morning?

  • @MultiAwesome7 the sound of it is romantic---regardless of the words.

  • @MultiAwesome7 I don't see it that way. It could be the ache of a woman who doesn't want any entanglements, but she's silently listening to the pulls of her heart. I've been in a relationship for 15 years and although I love him, it's better that he go home in the morning.

  • Merrilee was the second to record Angel Of The Morning. Evie Sands was first but the record company went bankrupt.

  • I think this is the original b/c on the radio I've never heard it sung any other way. I love this song!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The editing didn't seem rough to me.

  • This is also in Girl Interupted.

  • This is used in Angel by Shaggy feat. Rayvon.

  • I agree Merilee Rush is the best....such a sweet song.

  • A truly BEAUTIFUL song and NO ONE can match the original performed here by Merilee Rush !!!

  • she's good, but juice newton has her beat.

  • Definitely the best, by far, no two ways about it. Juice Newton's take was great, and there's that rapper fella, Shaggy or whatsisname, he's got an interesting spin on this old classic, but Merrilee's version absolutely puts the rest to shame.

  • this is the original isnt it?

  • Yep!

  • It is the original version and it's nominated for a Grammy.

  • @munchkinOoOo

Nope, Mnguy57 is incorrect. Evie Sands recorded it first. Her's was much cheaper in the production and it sounds more, "raw" so to speak. I have yet to find a version of this song I DON'T like. I do like others more, but I do not find any bad. I personally prefer P P Arnold's version. No real reason, I just do. However, I would never refuse to listen to Ms. Rush sing it either, which is why I vist this version nearly as much as I do P P's version.

  • Merrilee's version of this song is by far the best and she can still belt it out after all these yrs!!!!!!

  • Is this Julie Herron that's related to Jerrell Herron???

  • I don't think so... could be down the line some where maybe. But not that I know of. ^_^

  • nobody can do this song any better than Merilee Rush

  • Beautiful song. There have been many versions of this song. Juice Newton did a good version but often the original is the better of them.

  • Actually the original was by Evie Sands according to "Before They Were Hits" vol 5

However, I do agree Merilee Rush's renditon is by far the best. Evie Sands' original, has a similar arrangement, but somehow lacks the energy of Merilee Rush's famous rendition. Her's IS the first version to become a hit.

  • This has to one of the most beautiful songs from its era. ronjm23, you are right, Merilee's version is and will always be the best version of this song. Good job maskedfragment.

  • This another one of those songs that has been recorded multiple times by many artists but in my opinion Merilee's remains the best. Your visuals are pretty good as well. Thanks for posting.

  • Another forgotton oldie.

  • bhite41 Where did the quote 'life is not about you" - God come from, The Bible?

  • Merilee and this song gave my 13 year old mind impure thoughts...

  • this song gave me so many ideas... oh!

  • everyday i take the time to wake up and watch the sun rise because this life will not last long, there is an irony in the sky and humility of my soul each time the edge of the sun appears on the horizon, 'life is not about you" - God

  • GREAT CROSSOVER HILLBILLY.

  • Funny thing it's been about 40 years now since I remember this song on the radio and the jukebox at Moms & Pops Pizza. Seems like so long ago now. I still like the song.

  • se siente un pocko de esperanza ahora en el casi fin del mundo amen

  • I still love this song!

  • Such a sad song...a string of one night stands.

    Sad but very beautiful.

  • May have started to popularize that trend

  • Merrliee is the one to popularize it of course sounds better than Evie Sands or any other after her to sing it since, to boot. (IMHO)

  • @hotwaterintub

I agree Merrilee's version is clearly the best.

  • I agree, Merrillee Rush's voice was just made for this song. This is beautifully done.

  • BEST version, hands down.

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for posting this, as apposed to all those shit versions of it floating around youtube.... as if anybody would want to listen to them... why did they even bother posting them

  • lovely song

  • I made the treck from Florida to the beautiful scenic land of upstate NY a few days ago... as my dad was dying. The cloud formations above the pine trees and telephone poles left a lasting imprint on my mind, from hours of meditation and reliving the past with my dad. Although he was in a coma, when I touched his cheek I know he recognized me. He died this morning, then this song played. The video is perfect, thanks Masked Fragment. Bruce Manell 2.26.22--7.7.09 RIP my Angel of the Morning.

  • Thank you for sharing your story, it was very touching. I'm glad you liked the video. My condolences to you and your loss.

  • Angel of the Morning" was written by Chip Taylor born James Wesley Voight, younger brother of actor Jon Voight and uncle to actress Angelina Jolie who also wrote Wild Thing a hit for The Troggs in 1966 and I Can't Let Go a hit for The Hollies. Rush's recording of Angel of the Morning was featured prominently in the film, Girl, Interrupted for which Jolie won an Academy Award. Angel of the Morning has also been featured in the movie Jerry Maguire and Fingers starring Harvey Keitel.

  • Is Chip Taylor the same guy who produced for the Monkees?

  • Where were the pictures taken?

  • They were taken in North Carolina. ^_^

  • @maskedfragment Where in NC? It's hard to see through the trees, but it looks like it might be Highway 301 near Fayetteville.

  • @asbpab1966

Most of the pictures were taken around the Greensboro/Burlingtion area.

  • It's hard to say if this or Juice Newton's version is better. I, like most of the younger listeners, am more familiar and used to JN's version. This version is from the 60's so logically the 80's version has a bigger production and it sounds more grand and epic but this original has an innocence to it that's very appealing. I think music, like everything in life is very relative. If someone in the 60's heard JN's version then they might think it's not as good as MR's version and vice versa.

  • Merilee Rush. There is no other version.

  • Yes there is - UK;s Billie Davis, who is still performing this song on a tour this year, I agree that Rush's version is very good, but just listen to Davis's - great brass.

  • I'll check it out.

  • also version written by chip taylor, performed by juice newton

  • Everybody's got different taste, but I've listened to about a dozen versions of this and for my money, Merilee Rush nailed it the first time and did it right.

  • So pretty .:)

  • to be honest, its my first xperience of hearing this original version. i used and familiar with the JUICE Newton version, its very nice, i learned to love this song way back then but never heared it again till this day..... realy great great song,,,,,, memories from behind[:].>>>>

  • I like this arrangement the best. Had and affair that started like hers. Should've left it at that, but couldn't leave it alone for three years ('79 - '82). Ought to write a song about it: "It Was Desperation I Know!" Can laugh about it, now. () ; LOL!

  • i love you darling, your angel is watching over me everyday...........

  • What wonderful memories hearing this song brings back, particularly this version by Merilee Rush. It's so much better than the Juice Newton cover.

  • merrilee rush and the turnabouts without a doubt recorded the best version of this song.Another one hit wonder from a pacific northwest group

  • I listened to the Nina Simone version of this song non stop every day whilst driving to visit my dad in hospital earlier this year. He died on January 25th and I sang my heart out to this song as I drove home that night. I had the Merrillee Rush version played at the end of his funeral, this song is truly moving. Wholly inappropriate for a funeral (when you listen to the words) but never the less a truly meaningful song to me and one that I will treasure forever. Love you dad x
