  • So not to kill the whole pride they came to another version and killed only one lion. Still I don't like the idea. Might they use the exile =(

  • I kinda like the real ending better, but i like the hamlet quote and scar manipulating Simba's good nature in order to throw him off pride rock. oh, and the laugh is badass too :D

  • i think they should have done this ending

  • Well. I think that would have been rather scarring.

  • I can see why they went against this ending: because it not only makes Simba antihero-ish, but also was really nightmarish in Scar's death and was not that dramatic for Scar's realization of who REALLY killed Mufasa.

  • Game Over....

  • ... Why does Scar sound like Crispin Freeman? o_O

  • who's the lioness at the end: Nala or her mother or Simba's mother

  • @MrAlto02 That's not a lionness...that's Scar...I think...

  • Wow. That's a really dark ending. I can see why they changed it. o.o

But then again, we see a similar scenario happen in the sequel with Kiara and Zira, so they sorta re-used this ending. XD

  • Simba is still alive in the end. That blackish charred looking lion is him.

So Scar, for all his laughing and madness, still died for nothing.

  • that means simba is a loser LOL

  • @Mechagodzilla34 But Simba's still alive.

  • very Hamlet like lol

  • @LadyTaurus95 But Simba's still alive.

  • And thus Fortinbras becomes the new ruler of the Pride Lands. Or something.

  • Yes scar wins simbas loses bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.take that simba!!.im scars baddest queen ever

  • simba died?xD

  • @mortebianca000 no, but he was burned more than likely. took me a nit to understand that.

  • hey why isnt jeremy irons takin role in this one?

  • oh loving the evil laugh <3

  • Okayokay im sooo confused. Usually you would die if you landed in the middle of a fire, so did simba live? If not, who is at the end? And scar didnt really win if he died within 2 minutes e.o

  • @TheArtsyWolf Simba was thrown into the flames, but managed to escape. (1:17)However, Scar thought he won, and keeps laughing, but he doesn't notice that the flames were slowly burning him alive, so eventually, Scar died. At the end, you see Simba alive, and the lioness is probably Nala or his mother Sarabi.

  • Disney was responsible for 90% of my nightmares as a kid.

  • YESS finally an ending where scar wins

  • simba was the main guy of the movie why did they thot to use this

  • @thegamemaster5500 because the lion king took ideas from Hamlet, in Hamlet both Hamlet (Simba) and Claudius (Scar) died at the end. But as you said, Simba's the main character, so he can't die. This ending also would've implied that Scar wasn't the result of a bad childhood, but was flatout deranged. Both endings are great but have separate meanings. As MAnnaconduit explained before, the one they chose has more of a meaning than this one.

  • This would've been the Viper vs Mountain if they kept it this way... almost. :D

But oohhhhh Scar saying an actual Hamlet quote <3

  • the reason they chose the film ending was becasue it shows simba earning the right to become king and avenging mufasa, also to have the hyenas, scars own troops turn on him becasue they realized he was only manipulating them, shows an ironic death, that the villain brought on himself, that his hate and jealousy lead him to this fate, makes his death all the sweeter, this here shows Scars insanity but it would not have made the lion king what it is today.

  • "Good Night Sweet Prince"

  • So...so.. fake.

  • Scar going totally insane and burning was a pretty epic/shocking scene. Though it would've been kinda' cool if they had kept it, it sucks that Simba lost in this version. He never got to avenge his father. I can see why Disney deleted it.

  • @Callabashful2 No Scar threw Simba in the flames.

  • That was terrible. I would have hated if they used that. HORRIFYING

  • can't say I agree with this after all scar always said he never had brute strength and simba is clearly stronger scar just wouldn't be able to win even in the real ending scars attack was desparate he blinded simba before attacking so sorry but this ending just doesn;t make sense if you put it with the whole film it makes simbas return seem pointless

  • I actually really like the "Goodnight sweet prince"

    Because it really IS Hamlet

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that The Lion King II is Macbeth...

  • @Emocliae its romeo and juliet

  • @THEEROFLMAO

Oh really? I haven't seen it, but I heard something about a controlling female character

  • I still prefer the current ending. It's just better and even more ironic, seeing that the same hyenas who helped him become king were also his undoing. Here Scar has gone so utterly mad that he doesn't even care about himself anymore when he has (seemingly) killed Simba. Well, in the end it depends on your opinion. I just think the current version works much better.

  • I dont get it, or lets say, I cant see it. The point to Scar hanging is the same right, but he throws Simba into the flames?

As far as I know, Scar gets shredded by the hyena's in the movie.

    About a movie: who's gonna see/has seen it in 3D? :D

  • Wow. I can see why they cut this out. Thank God they did, Simba went out like a little bitch in this one.

  • Uhh.... Disturbing much? Lol.

  • No wonder they changed it, seen it too many times. Just think of Gaston for example.

  • @Kreloar What do you mean? In this it is SIMBA (the hero) who gets thrown off while Scar gets burnt alive.

  • @ThePoketeers That's not what I meant. I meant the "begging for mercy" part. Just like Gaston, when he begged the Beast for mercy, the Beast spared him but then Gaston stabbed him in the back and he fell to his own death. In the actual movie, Scar also begs for mercy, but not to that extent. Indeed there are even more parallels to Beauty and the Beast if you see the "throwing off the cliff" part as "Gaston's backstabbing" and "Simba's survival" as "the Beast's survival".

  • @Kreloar That was not Simba getting up at the end. It is obviously one of the lionesses. Either his mom or Nala.

  • @ThePoketeers What are you talking about? I'm not talking about the lioness at the end but about Simba getting out of the pool of water he fell in or whatever stopped his fall in the first place. I can't really see well what happened when he fell.

  • .....I think it's more fitting that he got killed by his own followers after he abandoned them for his own (ironic) safety. :p Still, I like the idea.

  • omg they should have so have done tht xD

  • Hehe, I kind of like the "Goodnight, sweet prince" line, kind of a shout-out to this being based off Hamlet.

  • little to mutch like Hamlet.

  • 1:08 O.o

  • This is kinda...scary.

  • @CLF211 Agree!

  • This should had been the ending..it's actually more realistic and metaphorical..

  • ...I don't understand what just happened

    someone care to explain?

  • i like this ending more somehow, i guess its because it makes me not hate the hyenas for killing scar

  • Im confused, what just happened? Sorry, the pics make it kind if hard to follow

  • At the end were it showed Simba walking up to Sarabi....I thought he was walking up to Scar's chard body XD

  • Just think though, if it ended like this, Zira couldnt possibly blame Simba for killing Scar (or Taka) so there would be no TLK2.

    Strange sequence though, slightly disturbing,

But I love the Lion King, and always will!! 

  • Is it me or is a lot of the deleted scenes in this movie more heavily influenced by Hamlet? It's not a bad thing, just interesting how much the play really inspired the artists and producers. "Good night, sweet prince." is directly from Hamlet.

But I like it. This will always be my favorite Disney movie ^.^

  • @BaltosGirl Well, the movie itself is based on Hamlet, but I think I know what you mean. I would have liked this version of the fight better thanks to that line, actually, along with his dying thanks to his own insanity and not because Simba actually knocked him off the cliff.

  • @rentheadangelcollins ///the movie itself is based on Hamlet///

    It isn`t.

  • @ialsomakecrocodiles It is...That and, whether the creators will admit it or not, Kimba the White Lion. Still, the idea for the plot came from Hamlet and WWII. The characters came from Kimba.

  • So basically Scar throws Simba off the cliff and he dies and Scar ends up dying himself by getting engulfed by the flames ??

  • @Bigtailhunter Yes and no we see Scar die, but we see Simba again so Simba survives but dosent win the fight.

  • The final version was much better. I like how Scar reveals that he killed Mufasa in the final movie alot better than in this, because in the movie you could really see what a huge revelation this is to Simba. PLus the line "I..killed...Mufasa!" is something of an inside joke in our family. Our favorite line in the movie

  • i guess the cats out of the bag

  • "HAHAHAHHA!! YES! I DEFEATED MY OWN NEPHEW! I AM STILL THE KING AND WILL ALWAYS BE FOREVER! NOW I'LL LAUGH MANICALLY AND KILL MYSELF IN THE FLAMES AND NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!"

  • i can see why this wasnt in the film. being made for children the movie was already a little on the adult side. but i still like this scene, very good dialog when scars hanging from the cliff. and a good twist to the real ending.

  • I think both this death scene and the actual movie death scene fit Scar's character. Here his insane desire to hold on to his title as king is as fervent as the fire, both of which overwhelms him, leading to his death. In the movie, his constant betrayal of his family and his allies, the hyenas, to further his plans for self-preservation (i.e. covering his tail), finally caught up with him where he is outnumbered and ultimately devoured by the scorned hyenas. I honestly think both endings work!

  • way to spoil it

  • Scar's evil maniacal laugh scares the crap out of me O.O

  • Hmmm.... this alternate ending gives food for thought.

I think this ending would've been cool if they both died. But hey, it's a movie for kids so of course the bad guy gets his ass kicked. D=

The cliffhanger scene was very deep though. "Are you no better than me!?" Great dialog. I would've like seeing that in the final version.

  • Wait. They both die?

  • @ytimg62 No Simba landed in water and survived.

  • Interesting take on the scene. I honestly can't decide which version I like more. Scar being engulfed in flames does seem like a more dramatic death, but the Hyaenas getting revenge was sort of more fitting.

  • @sonic16913 I know how you feel.

  • Nice evil laugh

  • i like this version of the fight better than the original movie version

  • It's basically the same, scar dies and simba is alive

  • I'm glad this wasn't the final script in terms of dialogue. The finished one is much better. XD

  • By any chance, does anyone know who voiced Simba and Scar from this storyboard?? They sound really familiar. I know their not the same voice actors... These voices sound...really hot. :3

  • They should've left the Scar Cliff hanging scene in it. I think that would've been cool, especially with that line

  • This is horrible, but it has truth in it. When scar is hanging off the cliff he yells "are you no better than me". Wich to me is very inspiring

  • @Pogomitch And they kept that in the film.

Scar: "You wouldn't kill Your own uncle..."

Simba: "No, Scar. I'm not like you."

And that's the only time Matthew Broderick ever gave a believable performance. lol

  • @zerozordon620

Hey! Matthew Broderick made a good adult Simba! What was wrong with his performance.

  • @Passions55 NO no no I dont mean that he sucks as Simba in the whole movie NOT at all.

What Im saying is that this is the only movie I can believe Brodericks acting.

And its that scene in particular where Simba jumps outta the flames and is blood hungry for Scar. ".....Murderer! You don't deserve to LIVE!"

Or when he saw Scar bitch slap Sarabi.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldnt RIP YOU APART!"

    I get chills every time.

I love this movie...to bad my BluRay player isnt updated yet. XC

  • this would have been horrible

  • ...maybe it's a good idea they didn't go with this ending.

  • I can barely understand the pics?

Did Scar laugh while he was being engulfed by the fire? The only thing I like about this is the part where Scar cries: "help me" just like Mufasa did when Scar was killing him.

  • okay than creepy scar there very creepy

  • @TheDavul it's just the storyboard artists voicing the demo shots for demo's sake. obviously the good version would be voiced over by jeremy irons and the rest of the cast

  • yet again, they take out the best parts

  • i couldn't even understand the pictures

  • This would have been much more creepier if they did animate it, and when scar was burning to death it slowly showed him losing his hair, then his skin, then the blood falls out too, then its nothing but bones, scar still retaining his victory pose for about three more seconds, then falls apart.

  • @Joemamma69000 That would have dragged it into over the top territory, and it would have sucked.

  • @TanaSilvers Though it would have traumatized you for life if it was real.

  • @Joemamma69000 Nah, I was a weird little kid.

  • hey i love this end!!!!

like hamlet where everybody dies!!! kkkkk

  • Simba's voice sounds so cool in this! He sounds very dark and scary and Simba sounds cool like that

  • I think I would have liked this one better. Painted Scar in a more badass light.

  • Little dark for a disney cartoon. e-e

  • @FanFickChick1992 Then you havent' seen The Black Cauldron!

  • @FanFickChick1992 Try Frolo in Norte Dame; now, HE's creepy

  • @MewtwosLittleOne He's one of the few villains that genuinely scared me.

  • Yikes!

  • Simba actually was not killed, because you can see him running out of the fire after he falls.

Also, you see him again (alive) at 1:34

either way, this would have been an interesting ending.

  • @TheNevarAgain You're right!! So either ending, Simba wins!

  • so, THEY BOTH DIE

i think this is ind of a win to simba because, although he is killed, his goal: to kill scar, is fulfilled imediatly

its almost as if in response to simba dying, the spirits were enraged and ran the fire up pride rock and killed scar

  • @20firebird Simba did not die. He landed safely and later saw Scar's dead body.

  • @NDLady1985 oh, sorry. i was confused.

  • @NDLady1985 That wasn't water and that body wasn't Scar's. ^_^;

Simba fell into the fire but survived, the body he saw on the ground was either his mother's or Nala's(most likely his mother's). She lifted her head and smiled at him at the very end of the clip, indicating she isn't dead.

  • @20firebird Simba survives, you can see it in the video. You see him walk to his mother laying on the ground. he nudges her and she responds. Either way I am sure the plan was for Simba survive so he could take his place as king and scar die. I guess Disney didn't want scar to stand victorious. Either that or they thought this version was too gruesome . Come on, scar literally is burned to death. I like both endings,

  • 1:40 - Simba, Nala?

  • Comment removed

  • This alternate sequence would have put a real bit on irony to the movie: The villain defeats the hero, BUT HE STILL LOSES I think its supposed to be somewhat symbolic, as it shows a tyrant who basically does whatever he wants instead of actually tending to the kingdom he just justice is doomed to failure anyway, either at the hands of an usurper or by his own hubris biting him in the ass.

  • I like Scar laughing as he died. He was unraveling the whole story, it fits him. I like this ending, I just think Simba needs a better way to survive. :p

  • I think its rather intresting. Simba survives but Scar meets his end due to his own insanity that was building throughout the movie. The only problem I have about it is Simba didn't get his revenge.

  • Nightmare fuel. Thanks Disney.

    xD

  • Perhaps that's a spirit of Simba at the end meeting with Serabi?

  • And does anyone know who that lion was that Simba was saving at the end?

  • @Joemamma69000 Serabi, his mom

  • Wait a minute, didn't it say "Scar is consumed by the fire that engulfs Pride Rock"? So doesn't that mean that he was saving Simba rather than screwing him?

  • They were right not to go with this ending.

  • @SimbasGuardWT Though it would go more with the Hamlet theme that they were going for.

  • @ShadowFox909 O.K. that is a very good point. However I think it is more epic that Simba won back his kingdom through right of battle rather than by default.

  • ... I like this better. Scar wins. -:3

  • @ThePeregrinestar and loses in the end.

    =P

  • This gives me goosebumps.

  • they should make a colored version of this and add this as a bonus feature in the diamond edition coming this fall.

  • the line "good night sweet prince" is an allusion to Hamlet, which the story of The Lion King accurately follows...it would have been amazing if they kept that line in the movie!

  • 0:35 You know what would've been perfect for that? "Oh dear, I've said to much

  • Glad they cut it. It wouldn't have made much sense for Scar to die engulfed by flames on a giant ROCK while Simba survives down below, after a bone crushing fall, in the burning vegetation, that is supposedly so hot and large it just engulfed Scar on a giant ROCK. Yeah...definitely a o_O moment there. The current ending fits much better and is much more realistic/believable IMHO.

  • Woah O.o that would have been way too dark for Disney >_<

  • hmm Weird could hardly tell what was going on. My guess simba thought of when mufasa died and Subconciously saved Scar. I like the final ending, in the movie.

  • Unless you guys can do a better job of explaining what the hell went on in this video, as far as I'm concerned I'd say the main ending was better.

  • I can see how this would have been scrapped I mean simba going through all this drama and self discovery to die?!? good thing they kept it a happy ending, though are you sure he dies? I mean look at the end, Good Night sweet prince should still have been there as a last minute omage to Hamlet

  • Man, that laugh would have made me love Scar's death instead of lament him going out like a punk. Which admittedly he was but still.

  • If they had kept that "Good Night Sweet Prince" line and still let Scar have his death by Hyena karmatic death it would have been perfect. So, now it's just nearly ;3

  • Or he just lets him fall. That too.

  • This death of scar would make scar more of a better villain than he is now seriously kist standing there laughing so evil Thile the fire burn him...AWSOME!!!

  • ok, i can barely tell what's going on. why didn't the crew just make the scenes like.....normally instead of doing it in drawing? and did simba really get defeated here and scar wins???? i couldn't tell

  • @mileycyrusfan197 first of all Wat looks like what happens is scar throws simba off and as he laughs hysterically he is engulfed by the flames and assumability killed, simba on the other hand either also died or maybe survived the fall as you can see him comforting sarabi right at the end, and secondly the reason its like this is its obviously an early concept and didn't make it past the storyboard stage (probably because it was so sinister) so they never actually animated this scene :)

  • @mileycyrusfan197

Hahahahahahaha, makes the scenes like normally? Yes, drawings are so abnormal.

  • This is...whoa. Amazing. Love the Hamlet reference; "Good night, sweet Prince". Oh, I wish that had been kept. Well, honestly, I wish the hold ending was kept; the fire sequence, Simba's hesitation, Scar noting the difference between them...although I think, as a kid, the laughing at the end would've scared me like crazy. o.o

But, still, awesome. Must add to favorites!

  • I don't like the idea of that grand rock catching in fire at the end... even as a kid I would be stunned to see Scar dying so "clearly" and Simba been defeated. Also, the ending would have not been as powerful because the "defeat that become a victory" and the main villain dying after laughing hysterically is really kind of confusing for a child. (And freaking dark!)

  • This is quite an amazing ending that stays a little more loyal to Hamlet, but I'm glad they stuck with the other one. The Lion King we got was my all time favorite movie as a kid, and the thought of Simba being defeated at the end would have scared/shocked me back then. I do wish they had kept the "Goodnight, sweet prince" line, though.

  • Simba dies, Mufasa was still alive and came back.

  • I'm confused.

    Did Simba die?

  • @Teufeldolch No, he doesn't die. He just loses the battle, Scar is the one that dies.

  • Who's lying on the ground at the end? Nala? Simba's mother?

  • @Teufeldolch Most likely, his mother.

  • 0.0 Yowch ...

  • Does Simba die in this ending? The sketches are so difficult to make out, I can't tell.

  • @BlazeIgnitus Nah, he doesn't die, just gets severely burned from the fire.

He loses the battle to Scar and Scar burns to death.

  • Holy Shit, that was dark!

  • Holy crap.

  • dude that shit was intense... it would have made a neat ending too

  • Wow! This ending is epic. I certainly won't watch the movie the same way again.

    XD

  • this end is AWESOME!!!! HOLY SHIT!!

why didn't they put this in the movie, this rocks

  • I like their stile in this storyboard

  • "Good night, sweet prince..."

where have I heard that before?

  • Comment removed

  • @katinka0921 FYI, I wasn't being sarcastic. And if you read any drama, you would know that this is a line from Shakespeare's play "Hamlet". So dont comment unless you know what your talking about.

  • I wasn't trying to criticize you! ! I was only trying to ask if you knew where that line was from because I didn't! But, to point out, I say sarcasm when one thing is said with an opposite meaning, but I guess that is really verbal irony lol. Like "where have I heard that before?" even though you did know where it was from before asking. And I have read drama, but not Hamlet. Don't blame me for my lack of knowledge about the play! Blame the school system of Florida, it's terrible xD

  • @katinka0921 ok sorry :) I didn't mean to be so harsh. But yeah, its one of the last lines in the play Hamlet. actually, I'm reading the book in school right now :D I skipped ahead and read the whole thing. But im glad they changed this scene because millions of people have read Shakespeare and alot of ppl would have noticed this line lol XD

  • @sweetbug123 it's all good :) And weird coincidence, we are starting the book in about a month xD

  • @katinka0921 lol cool! i hope you like it. it's very good :D

  • @sweetbug123 It's from Hamlet I believe.

  • @sweetbug123 William Shakespeare's Hamlet!

  • @sweetbug123 Hamlet. Haha

  • @sweetbug123 Bambi! ^^
