  • Al Brisco, the Country Gentleman! What Chet Atkins (R.I.P.) was to the six-string, Al is on the pedal steel. THE SMOOTHEST, THE SLICKEST, THE BEST!! More please...

  • A small correction: The amp is an Evans RE150.

I incorrectly posted another model number, in an earlier post.

  • Ah pick it Al ,the Moon will never be forgotten nice work RIP Waylon and Moon

  • ciao, veramente bravi,e la pedal steel guitar very good sound, che marca è?e modello?reggards Francesco da Italy

  • Just shows you could get a good tone with out all kinds of effects pedals, nice job Al.

  • 1:44 - 1:48 How does he do that??

  • Never mind I figured it out. Great tune!

  • the the pedal steel guitar looks odd but my good it kicks out a nice country sound when played properly nice one!

  • Saw Al do this live at the TSGA convention n Dallas. We stayed all night just to hear this song and it was WORTH IT!

  • AHHHH!! That's nice!! You need to be on the Marty Stuart show that's on the RFD network on Saturday nights!! You would be right at home there!!

  • Hi Joey--That was Just Great--Many Thanks.

    Ian (TOMMO7) England

  • Very Great song, you capture his licks, sound, and style. I had the pleasure of meeting him at my wifes aunt house at a family and friend get together, he was a great guy, and very down to earth we had a great time. Thanks for the song!

  • Strewth! The pedal work alone lost me! :-) Very nice sir!

  • Nice pickin'!Sean spearman from Detroit!

  • WOW ! absolutely awesome ... If only I could wake up one morning and play like that !...

  • Al,

It is always a joy to hear someone play who obviously has spent countless hours perfecting their talents. Your tone is just great and your timing, . . . "Ladies and Gentlemen, here he is, Mr. Smooth, Al Brisco!"

Nice guitar work as well Joey!

  • Howdy Al : A mighty fine tribute to our mentor, Ralph Mooney. Closed my eyes and thought for sure it was Mooney himself. I'm sure he would be in agreement that you've written a grand piece of steel guitar instrumental. keep em coming..Bernie

  • what kind of amp?

  • Hi Joey,

Just watched your video of "Ralph's Reel". Wow! You sure captured Ralph's sound. He has always been my favorite steel guitar player. I first heard him on Wynn Stewart, Merle Haggard and Buck Owens records. His sound totally blew me away. I've been a professional musician/singer for over 45 years so I know what I'm talking about. You've got it man! Look forward to more of your videos. Take care.

    Your friend in music,

    Frank James

  • Do you use any effects on the steel sir?

    Thank you very much,

    Mario Forte

  • No effects, except for the reverb on the Evans AE100 amplifier.

  • Al is using no effects, except for the amp's reverb.

I noticed there are 5 "dislikes".

I can only assume they must be the result of jaws dropping as they listened to this wonderful music.

  • Boy, I gotta say, you really nailed it on this one. Great job. Great playing. All I gotta say is "Who is this masked man". That's my way of saying, you never know where your gonna hear a great steel guitar player. Just because "I've" never heard of him, doesn't mean he "ain't terriffic". Thanks for a great tribute to a classic player. Marc Trainor.

  • Fantastic I too loved to listen to Ralph Mooney and am glad you are doing that style of playing...play on and post more

  • Excellent job! I could never play like that, guess that's why I gave up steel for the banjar in the early 80s (can't play THAT much either!). Oh well, the music's the thing.

  • That is a great tune!

    Way to go!

  • i have a steel guitar but i have no idea how to play it.. can anyone teach me how?

  • Al and Joey; What a fantastic job on doing the Mooney Style of pickin. Ralph has always been one of my FAVORITE steel players; but I surely love your tribute to him; Is that a Rains Guitar you are pickin on? Keep em coming, Al..Bernie

  • Al is playing his Carter in this video.

He also plays a 1960s Fender 400 in this DVD.

  • Really, Really, nice. Man, you have Mooney nailed. I love the tone of your steel too. Nice, Nice, Nice.

  • you guys are good good work fellas keep it up !!!

  • Al.....you are the greatest! you just brought me back in time.....I first heard of Ralph when he was with the Buckaroos...and then with Waylon....keep it coming!...who cares what kind of steel it is...all that matters is how it sounds in the end...and buddy, keep it coming!!!................John........

  • I could listen to this guy play all day long.

  • smokin!

  • you are what steel pedal is all about. What about a band to back you up?

  • The tuning information (and more) is at

the web page listed in the info box to the right of the video.

(I tried to post it in this reply, but YouTube didn't allow that.)

  • thats cool :)

can you tell me the tuning of the lapsteel please ?

  • This is a pedal steel. A lap steel is a different animal. His tuning is at his web page but won't do much good if you think this is a lap steel. Pedal steels start at about 1000 bucks. Good music theory is a real plus. This is a seriosly talented musician. He's not wanking around with a piece of steel. thx for posting.

  • lapsteel tunings vary from player to player. I use an open G6 that I innovated myself. Starting from the bottom, it's E(highest),D(lowest),E,G,B,D. It takes some getting used to, but it's by far my favorite tuning. Having the high string on the bottom makes some licks more comfortable. Can't use a regular set of strings though. Have to buy a set of at least 8 to get the gauges right.

  • Beautiful!

  • just an old steel picker kickin ass!!

    check out Majic Sam Stomp.

  • you are a master !!

  • Just like listening to the ole Moon himself. Awesome

  • It reminds me of the Rainy day woman cords

  • Al is a master of the instrument.

  • I love this!

  • From somewhere, Larry Dee is applauding you.

  • fuckkkk!!! whyyy i'm living in argentina :( thats instrument does'nt exist here...

the sound its beatifull, you are great!!!

  • The steel completely overpowers the acoustic haha

but I lvoe it, nicely done :)

  • this is kinda country...

  • god i want to learn how to play

  • sounds like my dad's playing....he's a great steel player, too...almost a lost art...steel guitar playing

  • What UKSteeler said! Thanks for sharing!

  • What can you say!! a fitting tribute to a great musician by a great musician.

  • nice!
