  • Wow the video finished and I'm just like this -> :O

  • Terrible. Do they have to catch a train or something? All Bach's beautiful melodic lines are flushed through in this childish competition of "who can play fastest"? The movement is 'allegro', not 'prestissimo'.

  • OMG....the best, energy, passion, chemistry...!

  • You are the best Niegel, i love you!!

  • the fast forward buttom hasn't been changed. Nigel get a grip. As the Americans so delicately put it. Your heart is bleak and therefore can display the truth not showpieces.

  • BMW 1060 III,,,,Super sport.

  • topclass performance!

  • What did the emperor say to Mozart? "The human ear can hear only so many notes in a day"? or something like that. Well he should have said "the human ear can only hear so many notes per minute" Slow down next time and enjoy the music.

I listened to the first 20 seconds of the Largo and gave up, It made me more tense than calm.

  • @hamballsario "Allegro" is certainly up for interpretation these days, as with Bach's final movement in his third Brandenburg concerto and numerous other works.

  • 1700 MP/H!!!

  • too fast, yea. but loads of fun. I'm playing this with a chamber orchestra and it's a blast to play it this quickly.

  • this man should be play only hard punk rock.

  • @officinatangueraTO And he sure does already!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaa

  • is this a competition? ridiculous

  • Its too fast!

  • i just don't understand WHY. impression? style? difference? FAIL

  • I'm not a musician, just an ordinary person who loves classical music, especially of Baroque period. I also prefer when this piece is played a bit slower, but I value & enjoy Nigel Kennedy's performances. You can totally tell he's one with the music & knows what he's doing and that's really what I'm after. I don't care much about musicians who play like robots, even if they are technically correct.

  • in bad taste

  • overdoing a bit..

  • Is this was played at least one beat slower it wouldnt have sounded so good.11

  • horrible ! mataron a bach !!

  • pues si es virtuoso, pero en obras como esta y por la época se va al extremo este cabrón, mas que interpretar parece disfrutar demostrar ante el público la rapidez de sus dedos.

  • All of you who think that this is too fast are wrong. I've performed with Kennedy and he is very exacting about his tempi and extremely well studied concerning the compositions.

  • @danwojc - that's true: faster doesn't mean better! I think Nigel likes to be a bit controversial with his playing! He does the same thing with Vivaldi! But he is a very good player. Apparently Mozart complained that people played his music much too fast!

  • It sounds like they're having an argument :D

  • LOL. That was a true battle. Great players, both, but Nigel overestimated his qualities a bit; in the most fast movement for the violin in this III part it goes wrong:

    1) At 1.09m. he cannot come with the tempo and at 2) 1.16min a few wrong notes.

So the oboe won the battle ...

  • absolutely beatiful music.... played brilliantly.. just love it... there`s chemistry between the two. .thas what matters

  • Very well played - much faster than it is normally played!

  • @tachuman Faster doesn't mean better...

  • WHAT IS THIS FREAKING TEMPO???? CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS AN ALLEGRO NOT A PRESTISSIMO MOLTO!!!!

  • c'est trop vite!!!!!!pas de charme ce seulement la course!!!!c'est pas Bach!!!!dommage!!!!

  • @andy66100 how do you know how back first played the piece? were you there?

  • Quelle honte ! C'était un concours ?

  • Quelle honte !

  • troppo veloce! cos'è, hanno fretta?

  • Con un tempo endiablado, pero una ejecución brillante. Nigel es un excelente y heterodoxo violinista. J.N.Mella.

  • I love it! awesome!!

  • que dura esta caraja!

  • They're just having some fun, criticising doesn't make you better than them

  • Instruments that make people look ugly while playing them, number one: the Oboe.

  • what ist this? This is no music. Rather, the rat race

  • Way too fast, at least for me to savor any notes whatsovever. The speed and pitch standards have changed since Bach's time. Let's at least keep the pitch at A=440 forever.

  • Allegro! This is presto or more. Besides, Nigel is always so tasteless.

  • @jsnauwaert If it's so tasteless, I don't see you with better taste playing up there with hundreds of thousands of people watching. Where is your crowd at?

  • TOO FAST!!!

  • by that complain of how fast? that would be boring if all the melodies were played in the same way. Support Nigel.

  • great!!!!

    no more words than great!!!!

  • they're shredding, i dont see what the problem is, he's not just playing fast, there's lots of dynamics , there's more than one way to play bach.... its not to fast, ....niggers

  • dear god why are they playing so fast?

  • im just going for a cuppa tell me who wins

  • @5050zulu1 may be one of them or both needed to pee, so hurry hurry hurry to avoid a tragedy

  • @5050zulu1 , it was a photo-finish... but the oboe just won by a nose ;-)

  • Why so goddamned fast?? What a waste of good music. Vivace at least. No pleasure in listening to that. Need a valium

  • Maarten,zie het positieve,dit is toch geweldig!

  • MY GOODNESS!!! And seeing their faces, it seems so easy! They play... playing!!

  • Wow, this sounds more like Vivace than Allegro to me!!!!

  • may be a little fast, but still very nicely played. Keep up the good work!

  • ...but this IS too fast :-) the music doesn't breath this way. It's more like a statement/experiment, I guess...

  • Bach's works are so perfect that even this tempo is not able to perish them

  • brilliant. I bet the union hack orchestra bitched the whole time. Too bad they drag. They ought to keep up.

  • @CaseyRocky HAhah, I agree, the music is so lively, I love it!!

  • Way too fast. This is preposterous.

  • i'm agree!

  • the melody is lost in the speed.

  • too fast. I don't like this performance, the tone of oboe is nice though.

  • corny as hell, but the ultimate quality is great!

  • You gotta give Ms. Casey credit!! She kept up with Nigel. I've played this piece several times (oboe) and I'd have killed the violinist if he/she had taken that tempo!! . Many oboists would have sounded "honky" at the tempo. And it was at least fun. And the performers were having fun. Check out some of the looks Ms. Casey gave Nigel!! Yeh it was too fast , but Ms. Casey did a great job I wouldn't give this much artistic merit, but sometimes we just need to have some freaked out fun!!

  • WOW, What´s your damn rush?

    Sounds like music for bees.

When you make love would you be done in 30 seconds.? It sounds like you can´t wait to get to the end of the piece.

  • this version good for a change

  • as typical with Kennedy, way too fast

  • woooh did they tune up a half step?

  • 1:54, I love this part =)

  • I've got to say this was really fast but I just love fast movement

    specially when is allegro

ps. Wow that dude was sweating

  • robysalain --Vous avez raison mon ami.--(French there ,Not bad for an Englishman).I`m old enough to remember Nigel when he wore formal Black.Much nicer!(Dommage!!)

  • how and why find a reason to complain or not be happy with thier perfomance!!

    LOVE

  • Also I have to say, Nigel has a lot of Bach on youtube. Listen to the rest of it and then this interpretation might be more within your reach.

  • I suggest you stick to your area of expertise; chunky ladie's prodigious rear ends.

  • I suggest you stay within your realm of expertise; racist movies containing prodigious drug use.

  • are you discriminating against chunky ladies, guy ?

  • Ok to all of you who think that this performance is "too fast and unmusical" I've PLAYED Bach with Kennedy and he is flat out one of the greatest musicians I know. He does not pick his tempi willy nilly but is extremely exacting in his interpretations. Listen to this rendition again attentively this time and without preconcieved notions of tempo and you can hear more nuance and musicality than most recordings at half this speed.

  • Nigel Kennedy : No one like You..So sweet !

  • This tempo is INSANE!

    Insane and UNMUSICAL!

  • it's very very very fast , I prefer the normal speed version

  • Oboist steals the show! What beautiful playing....

  • GREAT !!!!!!

  • beaucoup trop rapide,l'esprit de bach n'y est plus.dommage !!

  • TO FAST, TO FAST, TO FAST, TO FAST........."MUSIC IF IT'S PLAIED TO FASRT IT BECOMES IMPOTENT " Bernstain

  • Bravo.

  • Quelle force!!!! il n'y a rien à dire cela est sublime. BRAVO

  • It's much too fast, they didn't play so fast in baroqe

  • BWV 1060 is the best bach piece.

  • That wasnt'a duet, that was a duel.

  • :) I agree

  • This is Allegro..

    not Presto!

  • firebreathone2: But why play it like hundreds have played it before? It is interesting to hear it at this tempo...

  • I've heard numerous performances of this piece, even played fast, but this is definitely TOO FAST. That's presto, not allegro. Where Bach meant vivace or presto, he put it down thus. Just listen to the violin at 1m06s-1m19s, what's that supposed to be? On can hardly distinguish the sounds! It's not innovative to make the audience suffocate. It's simply unauthentic

  • Hehe, you're right. It's interesting, but I don't want to listen more than once.

  • What gives you the right to call an interpretation unauthentic simply because you don't like it. You didn't live in Cothen Germany in the early 1700s. You haven't the foggiest idea what authentic actually was. None of us knows. If you don't like the way someone plays, by all means say so. But attacking someone's artistic integrity (especially one of the greatest violinists of our day) belittles you. Oh and listen to 1m06s again...every note is hit cleanly and musically.

  • The 1st mov.was fast but abs.enjoyable to me,

    this is absurdly fast.

I love N.K.overall,but totally dislike this rendition.

  • BRAVO FOR OBOE!!!!

  • Haha, it's funny that they decided to make concerto a little bit more LIVELY at the end :D unpredictable xD

  • Quite fast!

  • Well now...this is what I call "kicking ass" on the oboe. Small wonder Nigel worked up a sweat! BRAVA to Ms. Casey and the Irish!

  • AMAZING playing, but definitely waaaay too fast! Some of the best bits just get glossed over, which is a shame. Still fantastic to listen to though :)

  • i think they were just bored an wanted to have some fun with that speeeeeed! listening to it is almost exhausting but playing it that fast for sure is fun...

  • this is good. it should be a little bit slower to be perfect.

  • not bad really. i didnt hear this one being played that fast before.

  • i know thats right

  • great!!

i've never seen such a fast Bach!!

  • yeah, this is played just a tad too fast...well, thats a lie...a LOT too fast. but regardless of that, it was pretty good. I'm an oboist and i'm going to be playing htis by christmas

  • A real master at playing an instrument knows when to put his virtuosity aside and concentrate on the content of the piece. Which is rich and supposed to bring delight and not the impression of a hare trying to flee hounds during a hunting!

  • A real master at playing an instrument knows when to put his virtuosity aside and concentrate on the content of the piece. Which is rich and supposed to bring delight and not the impression of a hare trying to flee hounds during a hunting!

  • I've played this concerto (2 harpsichords version, in C), I've heard numerous performances of this piece, even played fast, but this is definitely TOO FAST. That's presto, not allegro. Where Bach meant vivace or presto, he put it down thus. Just listen to the violin at 1m06s-1m19s, what's that supposed to be? On can hardly distinguish the sounds! It's not innovative to make the audience suffocate. It's simply useless.

  • beaucoup trop rapide,l'esprit de bach n'y est plus.dommage!

  • Just listen to the three G (2:33/2:34) of the tutti, which are full of drive in this interpretation contrary to spreading notes of other performances, which befoul such a magnificent music. Everything is right, everyone plays with one another. Simple emissions, pure sounds not polluted by too much stupid vibrato of pretentious performers, only good at show off their little talent ... Shall you listen other pieces by N.Kennedy ?

    CONGRATULATIONS !!

I look forward to attending a concert ...

  • Here is an outstanding interpretation at last !! Beyond all the hackneyed performances we constantly hear, thanks to most musicians (all the more conservative than poorly innovative) , Nigel Kennedy, Aisling Casey and the ICO succeed in performing genuine music with the required energy : baroque music has to be led and it needs anticipation, which is mostly lacking. We can find here the power of Bach, the immutable tempo of "quiet Force" with things bustling inside ...

  • LOL!!! "They should perform it in a rock concert"

I like this piece fast! Regardless of the tempo, they are amazing. I really like the oboe player in all three movements.

  • It's an abominable interpretation.

They should perform it in a rock concert.

    Poor JSB.

  • damn to fast!!!! ruin the magic!

  • More like Presto than Allegro here.

  • NO MATTER HOW FAST IT IS PLAYED IT TAKES SKILL TO SOMETHING AS INTRICATE AS THIS, I WOULD KNOW i PLAY THIS SONG

  • Yes it takes skill. Skill that Nigel Kennedy doesn't have. No Sond, no bowing technique, no vibrato and intonation is more as bad...

He should give his strad to a young violinist!!!

  • nice video, a little to "showy" though, this movement is definitely too fast, but they were only playing for show anyways, so it doesn't really matter that much.

  • At exactly 0:42, Aisling Casey's thinking, "HA! I'll show you - this tempo's nothing for me!"

  • is this Baroc or Rock music? poor Bach...

  • that was an inhuman speed...amazing.

  • Whoa...way too fast

  • Best Composer ever - and Nigel fits it! Love it.
