I met Rich and was in studio with him in calif when he did his training videos. He took what he had and maxed it out. He had some genetic faults but made it up on his hardness and thickness. He was really the first to show that you can get striated glutes. He was light years ahead of everone in hardness. His body responded well to the stuff...

In my opinion, Rich is the best ever... also, THIS is the way the lighting and a bodybuilding stage SHOULD be set up... a black background, and minimal lighting... the stages today at the big shows are WAY too elaborate, and don't give a good background to enhance the illusion of the physiques... and the lighting is horrible (too bright, and bad angles). I know that they're trying to be really fancy for the hype of the show, but it ends up doing hardly any justice to the competitors' physiques.

Overall I agree about Haney's era. But Labrada for sure got robbed in 1990. Haney was off and Labrada was ahead after prejudging. He deserved that title over Haney in 90. Gaspari was one of those guys who ended his career due to injury

Agreed. Gaspari was more disiplined than Haney. I think the 85, 86, & 88 shows were Gaspari's. The judges threw Al Beckles in 2nd to seperate Haney & Gaspari (as if we're not going to notice this freaky young kid), but I definitely think Gaspari should've been awarded the biggest upset in Olympia history... To be the youngest Olympia winner, defeating Haney in his debut appearance. Some might think that is a bit much, but I don't, I think he deserved it. The most hungry, & every1 knew it.

You talk all day long about how today's BB'ers dwarf the old skool guys, but none of the guys today except for maybe Dexter has the shape, lines, aesthetics, and balance of the golden age guys of the 80's and 90's. By just standing still for the first 10 seconds, you see how awesome the physiques were back then. Guys like Jay Cutler can't touch these guys.
