  • lacks compassion so dull I'm sorry

  • @abbysmommy22 the OSHS choir has a different conducter. he tood over a year after this video.

  • The girl soloist was not singing with her mouth vertical enough. When you sing horizontally and barely open your mouth, your going to sound like crap

  • i sang this song when i was a sophmore in high school ..that was in 2006 i had a lot of fun but we sang with more power!! sorry i hope your teacher heard this you guys could of done way better!!

  • I love this song! you'll could have sang it much bettr..:)

  • the girl soloist's voice sticks out.. not in a good way.

  • ugh you guys look bored...

  • Male soloist... You rocked it!!!

  • Wow, very nice!It brigs back many memories of my own high school choir. thank you forsharing this.

  • I thought it was okay... I think it's better for two people to sing it... Not really a good choir piece.

  • This is a great graduation song... But I dislike my time in high school so I'd personally sing Defying Gravity.

  • Im sorry but this massively lacks personality, passion and there is no dynamics which is crucial for choral singing

  • @obsessinging sad, but true

  • @obsessinging Right. I was thinking that maybe it was from all the Broadway vets' videos I've been watching and the Glee, but I'm a bit more used to having a bit of emotion injected into the performances.

  • @obsessinging yea that's basically how the choir in that school is right now. i'm in the OSHS choir and it's a real problem. it's not as easy as it looks

  • damn...!!!!

  • Amazing!!

  • im in eighth grade and we're singing this right now for our graduation♥

  • did u see the fat girl giving people evils LOL

  • Definitely like this song better as a duet and not a choir song... but I understand that in a choir you have to sing it like this, with less interpretation. Though I feel like the soloists could've been more enthusiastic, I think this was very well done... certainly better than my high school choir could ever do :) I actually got chills towards the end. It's a powerful song. Great job guys :)

  • I love how the guy soloist sings alot of my parts in this song.. And I'm a soprono.. Haha. But i think they did a good job:)

  • Spetrocking1 it's not about the wicked witch of the west it's about the two charicters elphaba and gilinda who later become the wicked Witch of the west and the good Witch of the north

  • Apprently this song is about when Dorothy from wizard of oz and the wicked witch were room mates in college and their friendship im not sure if thats true but thats how my chorus teacher explained it to us.

  • @Spectroking1 Lolz, NO. It's sung by the Wicked Witch (known as Elphaba in Wicked) and the Good Witch of the North (known as Glinda in Wicked). They were roommates and though originally they loathed each other, they did develop a special friendship. If you ever get a chance, I would strongly recommend seeing Wicked.

  • Noooooo! You're spreading your vowels soloists! It may be Broadway, but that's no excuse to not flute your mouth. Nasal's fine, but don't spread!

  • Some people sang pretty well... but most people were just like watev. No emotion or feeling at all.

  • we sang this song at graduation tonight... I almost cried. I'm a guy.

  • the girl soloist is sooo good man

i would been so off-tune if i was surround by 4846 different voices

  • girl soloist is hot!!!

  • the soloest was the best part....

  • I'm leaving the 8th grade this year, and the 7th graders are singing this song to us. I'm bringing tissues. :(

  • This will be our graduation song this year. I am so excited to sing it. Great composition.

  • I go to Ocean Springs middle school and my choir is singing this song and other songs from wicked. By the way I thought y'all did great!

  • The more and more I watch this, the more I realize how much the girl soloist ruins it.

  • Why does the girl look angry? Other than that I have no complaints and the guys voice is amazing :^)

  • Mediocre performance. Much too easy of a piece for a high school choir.

  • Im a freshmen and im a bass in my choir, hopefully someday i can get the voice to do somthing like that guy.

  • Comment removed

  • I have the same solo as the guy in the beginning. Its my first solo ever, First year of Choir too. lol im quite nervous.

  • @chaseaa64 I know the feeling. Don't sweat it too much; just jam it out and PROJECT YOUR VOICE. That can't be stressed enough. Remember: No confidence=no results. Not to mention the 5 P's.

  • @wildbluefaerie just because something is difficult doesn't have good musicality. They should be able to do it all. The complicated things just make the musicality sound nicer. I actualy don't see how it can mask the lack of musicality at all.

  • my school's 7th grade choir is doing this, and i love it so much!

  • this is wayyyy too simple for a high school choir to be performing. my school's choir was singing this kind of stuff in like 7th grade.

  • @Nf9456 just because it doesn't have lots of complicated rhythms and strange chords doesn't mean it can't be a difficult piece. I don't mean difficult technically, like knowing your notes, but to make it musical and powerful and moving. I actually think the slow, simple pieces are much more difficult in that sense - there isn't a lot of complicated stuff going on to distract from the lack of musicality!

  • lol the girl behind the guy when he sings looks like shes death glaring him :L and the asian guy messed up at the end :L

  • The female soloist had no expression at all. This is a song devoted to someone who's changed you forever. Lighten up!!

  • Jeez people, just enjoy the music and stop critiquing them!

  • awesome, wish i could perform with them lol

  • Omg I sang this song when i graduated 8th grade that was like 4 years ago and i still remember it! D:

  • @BreShuna OMG I know how you feel, I'm leaving the 8th grade this year, and the 7th graders are singing this song for us, I'm totally gonna cry my eyes out!

  • @BreShuna were singing it now for grad!

  • @TheUberPeople YESSS<33

  • its a shame that these guys are not exposed to real choral music.

  • So the girl who perfomed Elphaba's solo had no emotion whatsoever... Which kinda makes me sad... Because that's one of my favorite parts in the song...

  • The female soloist lacked passion and also sounded slightly flat in comparison to the actualy song. The boy sang well, but also without passion.

  • the girl's voice is way too abrasive... it just kinda grinds on me... they needed someone with a richer voice

  • Great song, but the female soloist looked PISSED! And she needs to use better vowels. Great job though!

  • The tempo change is hard to warm up to but the choir did a good job enunciating and blending.

  • that was great! =D

  • The female soloist looks bored stiff!! If I got that solo, I'd be ecstatic

  • the girl doing the solo needs to work on her eyebrows!

smeyes! (smiling with your eyes. we stole that line from Tyra Banks!)

  • Great job guys!

  • Lol asian guy messed up at the ending

  • the male soloist reminds me of Drama from fantasy factory

  • AMAZING! PERFECT! NICE TONE! i cant typedown everything amazing about it, tere r to many things!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hmmm not to be mean but the soloists were really boring

  • wonderful solos. Andrew is HOT. (:

  • I'm sorta in love with the guy soloist!!! haha...His voice is really good and he's a cutie! :)

This whole choir is pretty good! :)

And this is a beautiful song!!!

  • That guy at the end...omg. Lmao

  • Awesome!

  • Excellent job Ocean Springs H.S. I am looking for quality choirs to feature their videos on a new sharing blog for choir directors. Please share this with your director. Search for Choir Director's Brag Blog. Please share with your director.

  • the guys should sing more out an stronger an u guys should blend more

  • WOW!! this is such a wonderful choir!! Plus this is my favorite song ever!!! Keep Singing everyone!!!

  • ok i'm not too fond of this arrangement.....the SA need to mature their sound. needs to sound more mature. the female soloist was iffy...her voice didn't soud mature at all.

  • wow. that was really good. but i have to agree that some are really into the song and some look like they realldy dont wamt to be there...but the girl at 3:37 was really into it. i think everyone needed her emotion. haha. and the basses needed to step up their game. other than that, well done!!!

  • I don't know if I agree with a male having the solo, but a nice job overall

  • it's supposed to be a song about leaving someone have a solemn && peaceful face. don't look so enthusisatic.

  • OMG the first guy that sang gave me chills!

  • is it just me or at the end, are some of the altos crying?

  • the male soloist is good!

    gave me chills!

  • Lol, I Have To Sing This For Choir On The 29th And 30th Of This Month.

  • @Xbox360Repairs2010 i sang this 2 days ago for district chorus. It wuz 7th and 8th grade.

  • Bravo!

  • the male soloist was great, but the female sounded bored and she was under pitch, other than that it was really good

  • wow... with this MANY people they should be pro, but with our 22 people we rank superior... I don't think choir directors should have people doing solos... we don't do that kind of stuff.. its either SATB or TTBB

  • Why no solos? It's more modern and wath these show-choirs like in "glee" it's something different than to sing songs with an SATB and should not be compared.

  • usually songs like ''Loch Lomond'' they have a male to sing a solo part when the whole thing is just TTBB... Solos in my opinion is like saying, ok solo then the choir comes in.. which really is lame/boring... the song therefor makes no sense to me...

  • You mean a classic TTBB or SATB is less boring than a show choir?

  • the guy soloist should be a country singer. ^_^

  • the girl soloist seems to be very bored

  • the girls need to raise there soft palats for a more mature sound

  • great choir

  • amazing!way better than my school!!!!:)

  • the boy soloist is some kinda nerdy cute!

  • They need to drop their jaws and open their throats!!!!!! Jeez!!!!! And I should kno since my choir teacher says that to the choir I'm in almost every day....well it's mostly to the alto section but still.....they also need to anunciate <----sp? And anyway what grade r they in? I'm a freshman and I probably kno more about singing then them!!!!!

  • the boy soloist.. andrew i think is really good. and kinda cute, =] lol i like choir boys. haha but he has good fermata and acctually anunciated when he sings. =]

  • beautiful cover

  • I'm actually going to go as far to say that it was just plain bad.... the best part was the piano.

  • It's way too robotic. It needs to flow. Domo Arigato Mr Roboto.

  • I completely agree!

    It had no feeling :(

This song is meant to have way more passion.

  • I'm way younger and I'm better than them no affence

  • My Concert Choir has dresses like that.

  • no offence intended it was an observation

  • how fat was the chick behind the 1st soloist??

  • dc...you're an ass!

  • I'm a sophmore in High school and last year when I was a freshman, we sang this song with Sophmores, Juniors, and Seniors! IT WAS SOOO BEAUTIFULL!!! And it was well directed, that's why I like this song, so much, lol.

  • i agree the girls are a little fat the solo girl is a little off pitch... men or fine other than that try to keep with the original speed and dinamics of the song

  • The girls really flat, and at the end kinda squeeky

  • its one or the other...squeaky or flat..not both

  • The guy who sings at the beginning is fantastic ! I could listen to him all day

  • those vowels were way closed

  • I would not say the vowels were closed...it is the sound of the choir that is very dark. And the female soloist...yikes...can we life the soft palate?

  • 3:50-3:56 Is he crying? :'(

    Geez, this was breathtaking.

  • very nice version

    *goosebumps

    like it!! :D

  • Oh my gosh, this is BEAUTIFUL.

And to all you pro-altos (:P), sopranos can power-belt it out, too, ya know! :P It`s just that those of us with super-sonic ranges have a more difficult time of it, but we can do it! :P ;)

  • Sopranos FTW

  • They shouldn't smile because it makes their words sound really wide. Which some were. But they shouldn't look like they're in pain or bored.

  • i love your voices!

    :)

but work on the face expressions.

if you put emotion into your performances it'll be amazing:)

    good luck!

  • Really good Really good Props to the choir. The soloist were good, but to me there was no emotion behind their singing. Its like they were singing it how they thought it should be sung. but thats just my opinion.

  • at the end every 1 almost passed out lmaoo still good

  • im in flanagan and were doing that song 2morrow! wishe me good luck

  • This is awesome...brings back high school choir memories! I did notice a few mistakes, most notably the tempo change with the female soloist. She rushed through it and sounded quite weak, IMHO. That's why alto's should get solos, we sing with POWER! ;)

  • Power to the Altos!!!

  • @starlett2010 i'm an alto && yes we do sing with power! ALTO POWER! :p

  • @starlett2010 It wasn't really her fault though, the whole thing is way too fast ...but you're right about the alto thing... I used to sing alto and it made my (soprano) voice so much stronger..... plus: this more of an alto solo anyway!

  • @AlexH2906 Yes, Elphaba is an alto role

  • @BrotherVBrother yes it is an alto, but at the end, notice that Elphaba goes much higher than Glinda does. It's like they switch parts for a songg.

  • @starlett2010 the soprano solo was definitely rushed. and the soloists both forgot about dynamics and the shape of their vowels completely. thats why I'd rather listen to the whole choir sing the entire song, the choir sections were better anyway. I agree 100% about the alto thing!

  • @starlett2010 Tch, altos.... Bass is where it's at.

  • @starlett2010 they have a deep voice

  • @starlett2010 I LOVE being an alto for that exact reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why does it look like it is painful to sing for them?

  • This sounds absolutely wonderful! This is a good High School Choir!

  • Great sound, but why do you look like you've been baptized in vinegar? You sound really good, but you should learn to "serve face" with your singing. C'mon! Smile. Convince me that you love to sing and believe what you sing!!!

  • This song is so beautiful. Our bel canto choir sang it at our graduation, not only was I humming it. But half of the girls were trying to hold back the tears while they were singing it from what I heard.

  • Beautifully sung! A little fast perhaps, right, but very tight. I like the soloists as well, especially Andrew Breslin. This is no happy song, so there is no need for the choir to look happy. I think th song ist very serious and - for most - it expresses thankfulness for the friendship that has been given to the two witches.

That is what I hear, when I hear you singing it.

  • Too fast.

  • she was probably staying emotionless to keep from crying because half the girls were balling at the end! haha.

  • Fantastic singing, especially the boy.

    But show some emotion!

The girls especially look like they'd rather be anywhere but there.

And the female soloist really didn' look like she wanted to be there.

  • @PwincessEmiweee and her vowels are horrible. the way she sings you makes me cringe. like yeewww

  • @PwincessEmiweee that's always been the trouble with the OSHS Choir several of the girls often just take the class for the art credit whereas the guys almost always take it because they're serious about it, unfortunately last year there were only 5 or so guys in the choir

  • i really liked this. its on my favorites now. andrew breslin is a fantastic singer!!!!!!!

  • isn't it illegal to sing a song playing currently playing on broadway?

  • No, it's illegal to perform a play or musical in its entirety for which the rights have not been released.

  • @sebrunn i did this in my 7th grade choir

  • that guy that's sining is the same guy who plays stickler on cory in the house

  • uhm no.

  • yes it is

  • just looked it up...def not the same guy. get your people straight

  • NO ITS NOT!

  • whoa it is!!

  • told you

  • haha lol

  • lies.

  • My School's Show Choir has a recording of this on their myspace from several years ago.

  • that was kinda boring but the song was good i think yall choir needs to lossed up a little bit like add some movment or sing it with a swing a little not just opra la la la's

  • I love the dudes voice!

Its really nice seeing a whole choir do it.

  • Comment removed

  • It's a chorus arrangement so they need to incorporate tenors and basses into the song. And the reason the male soloist sang Glinda's part is because Glinda's is lower (this is the only Elphie/Glinda duet where Glinda takes the lower part of the harmony) so in chorus duets the male usually takes Glinda's part.

  • ok, i'm going into critic mode here. so no one shoot me, anywhoo: the male solo, i REALLY liked his voice. maybe just put a little more emotion into the singing but over all VERY Well done the female solo: great solo. loved it, love your voice. again with putting emotion into thesinging. the duet, they sounded nice, individually, and alright together, but the voices don't mix well. still great job

choir: men be louder. yes, there are many more girls still be louder great blending

    excelent:D

  • OMG!!!!! my school choir is doing this. it was so sad today at rehersal [last rehersal for the seniors] so many of us started crying. our choir has become so close and watching everyone leave next week will so hard!! ='( i started crying today and one of the basses cried too its so sad.

  • our concert choir sung this for graduation too, everyone was crying, it's such a beautiful song.

  • I sang this at my talent show

  • makes me want to join a choir

  • were gonna do it

    our choir for the seniors

  • my noobish middle school choir did this song(including me)

our soloist was debbie silve, an 8th grader who rocks at singing. she worked really hard and so did the rest of us this was really good!

  • I'm doing this song at graduation in 2 days but we are not doing the solo part

Instead its divide between the advanced sopranos in the group but it still sounds good

    cant wait!

  • what are you talking about, the solos were awesome

  • this was not bad, the solors were great, they had great posture. and they all payed GREAT attention to their director if i was able to give more than 5 stars i would GREAT JOB GUYS

  • that was great! :) the boy who do glinda was so cute! nice one ocean springs high. ^_^

  • that was completely amazing i hope my sons chorus does it as well

  • that was amazing i have to doit for a teacher luncheon and btw my dad went to ocean springs a while back GREAT JOB

  • great job. i have the first solo in my womens chorus.

    yep.

  • omg i hav the first solo for thiis song and im only 12 i am a girl but im on my brotheres account

  • we are doing this as our senior song. it's so sad, especially because we have to sing at graduation.

    Anyway, good job here.

  • my chorus is doing this for our senior song too! i'm the soloist for the first part : )

  • i was part of a womens chorus and we sang this song too, we sang it on the last day... we all cried...

  • second soloist takes it too fast at the beginning

it's a bit too nasaly too. but good voice (maybe not the right one for this piece)

  • mine too.

    =D
