  • This is my roommate! :)

  • Good for you kid!!!

  • SUIT TRANSFORMATION FTW

  • The cut showed him apparently contradicting himself and then walking out of the interview. It later emerged that the video inaccurately portrayed the interview and that Huppenthal did return. Wagner confirmed that the posted cut was inaccurate, and further stated that he was "irked" that his video was used for political means. The cut funding that Wagner asks about, and which appears to bewilder Huppenthal, was actually not part of the bill that Wagner references in his questioning.

  • @Philinspaces Source? I'm sure he would be "irked" when he was the one that uploaded this video.

  • Please stop crossing the axis during your interviews. And remember to white balance.

  • waiting for superman....

  • I like this kid. can we get kids like this to run our country?

  • Busted!!

  • all of a sudden the chair cuts off oxygen, and the excuse for a state representative, can not breath. Huppenthal is bought and paid for, this man is proof that over all dumbing down plan exists on a federal, state and local level, but that does not prove wrong doing does it?

  • So, what will the $57K be used for? You can bet that it will pay an administrator to preserve the program in name only. What a shell game.

Good job, Keith, for outing a liar who does not deserve to be in public office.

  • Keith Wagner: I'm a childless 52-yr-old bachelor, but if I could afford ya, I'd adopt ya! I am *SO* PROUD of you!! This is PRECISELY what GOOD JOURNALISM is ALL ABOUT!! KEEP ON KEEPIN' *ON*, KEITH!! Again, I'm *SO* PROUD of you! Big fatherly ((HUG)) from Texas!!

  • Woooo!! Cdstv!

  • Arizona is afraid of Mexican-American studies and Mexican-American history???

    LOL hahahahaha !!!!1 why !!! ??????

  • Although this is a state issue being discussed, publicly funded education is a national problem. Our tax dollars shouldn't pay for public education. All education within the United States should be privatized.

  • @Isaiah122 what you ask is as stupid as asking pro private police and private firefighters. Education is the only way to promote faire competition and give equal opportunities. If you were stupid in the school it is not the societies fault, you are just not competitive

  • @Isaiah122 you sir are fucking stupid, how the hell do you think teachers get paid? Or students get educations?

  • @Isaiah122 says the man who was brought up with public education, and who's children probably attend public school, or receive some other government-disperse assistance.

  • and this scum bag Huppenthal won his next election. So amazing to watch this slime ball squirm in the petri dish though. Keith Wagner and his ilk are our only hope.

  • Good job Keith Wagner . Keep up the good research, reporting and professionalism. And don't let the world of corruption ever change you.

  • You are a true American bad ass. Keep it up kid.

  • I love how the young man throws Huppenthal a bone at 3:44 "um Ok, lets move on then."

    LOL

  • It's all to apparent that this is what the Republicans offer Arizona.

All one has to do is view the voting record of Republicans in Arizona and it's clear they aren't looking out for Arizona.

  • Google search ...Gulen Charter Schools. Then take action

  • Hey! it's Stephen, miss ya man, this was the crowning achievement of [cdstv] Hope college is going well for you too!

  • CTE needs to keep it shut…they are the richest thing in schools next to Special Education. In the West Valley…same kid is taxed for the same school program three times. Primary, secondary, JTED, then there is federal money too. Their budgets are the richest thing in education…I like this kid though!

  • Comment removed

  • Huppenthal is a hypocrite & if you want change in our schools vote for my Aunt Margaret Dugan another candidate for Superindent. She's honest and really cares about the schools, she has 36 years experience in the education field as a teacher, principal, administrator and deputy superindent. she's qualified, strong and will fight for better conditions in all Arizona schools.

  • LOL i go to school with this kid

  • Arizona education is fucked and has been for a while. No other way to put it

  • @eukaryote90 it really is & that's why you should vote for my Aunt Margaret Dugan she's the running candidate against him and she's actually genuine and truly cares for Arizona public education!

  • @eukaryote90 Margaret Dugan for Superintendent instead of Huppenthal's contradicting dumbass. lol check her website out :)

  • It's great to see Wagner involved in the race for one of the most important educational poisitions in the state. How convienent is it for a state legislator to forget a vote that would pulled 1/2 billion dollars out of children's education? Huppenthal is definitly the wrong guy to be at the helm of Arizona's Education.

  • Way to go. You caught that guy either lying or just voting on bills based on what is best for his pocketbook. Good to see the younger people get at the truth.

  • excellent video, with journalism like that you'd be able to get a job on Hungry Beast if you were in Australia. Nice work.

  • Brilliant. This is the kind of journalism that would make a difference if the "professionals" had the kind of skills this kid has.

  • Genius... you should win an award!!!!

  • GOOD JOB KEITH WAGNER. NICELY DONE

  • I bet this guy thought this was going to be a softball interview... funny.

  • @emelinek Actually when he left the room, he was yelling at his secretary because he thought Keith was from the Daily Show XD

  • nice reporting

  • Way to go Keith!

  • excellent work -- I will be sharing this with my broadcast students as an example of a well-researched and well reported piece.

  • Great job!!

  • Your vid was featured on TYT! Nicely done!

  • google "frontline for profit-colleges." pbs has a great show you can watch onlin, about how wallstreet is stealing tax money and giving out crappy educations. arizona in ground zero for this bullshit. student loans is the next subprime. they are letting kids take loans they will never be able to pay back with 100,000 subprime education they're putting over on them.

  • @krwags11 You're featured on TYT

go check the vid out man!!!

    watch?v=3OlpKwjCIHw

  • 4:15

    LMAO

    Priceless... just priceless

  • Classic! Student journalism in top form. Very well done Mr. Wagner, hopefully we'll be seeing you on a major network in a few years.

  • @DrOman5596 - It'll never happen, he asks questions that are too much 'straight to the point', which forces the interviewee to give an honest, informed answer. When they can't answer, it makes them look bad, and in major network news, this could cost the journalist future access to that politician. It's a curse; on one hand, Keith is doing journalism they way it ought to be done, on the other hand, no major networks are. They are owned by political corporations, and will never hire him.

  • Good work on this student project! You and your team did some great research.

  • He probably only returned because he forgot his brief case

  • How long did you sit there waiting for him?

Open to a suggestion? Post the edited-out footage - everything you have - as a response to this video.

  • Excellent job!!!!!

  • another political slime busted.

  • Keith was dishonest he didn't make it clear with the senator before hand as to being a reporter. And the senator did come back. It was not fair reporting period.

  • @BrandilineMelt In this video it doesn't state that he doesn't come back. It merely shows that Huppenthal was extremely uncomfortable with the questions being asked. He should have known of the prior measure he voted for. He got called out...period. I do think it is unfortunate, however, that this video has subsquently been plastered all over the net. As for making it clear that Keith was a reporter, I think the two video cameras would have made that obvious.

  • More craziness in Arizona...What a great state. It appears it's been taken over by the wingnuts.

  • @kac56 I don't know. Arizona seems to have a long history of wingnuts.

  • Awesome dude. I hope you keep your journalistic integrity!

  • Good work, I guess Huppenthal is a hypocrite............nothing new here!

  • #LOL I will be voting NO! smart ass stupid bitch nerd with tiny penis

  • thats my nig

  • Its a 99.48182% , not 99.9% cut... :P, of course, that is rounding off to 5 decimals...

  • Comment removed

  • this is absolutely brilliant. keep up the good work man. the world needs more high school students like yourself.

  • @bates4141

Whats great about it? The kid edited the video and presented a lie. Now Huffington and others who posted it have egg on their face.

  • Comment removed

  • @dencal26 because a normal high school student made a U.S. congressman look like a complete fool. also, republicans suck.

  • I greatly appreciate your raw journalism. It is rare especially nowadays to find someone like you who can uncover and report such honest news.

I am also surprised and kind of disappointed that Huppenthal didn't even remember what bill he had voted for. I know a million must go through his office a day, but one so substantial as that must leave so trace as to what position you took.

Again, many thanks for your honest reporting.

    Sincerely,

    Carolyn from NC

  • @katsumewentz

Honest? The kid was busted for editing out the rest of the interview. Joseph Goebbals school of journalism?>

  • @dencal26 Um, no. The kid didn't misleadingly edit the interview, some blogger did. She made it seem like Huppenthal never came back, and later apologized for it. If you want to talk about honesty then get your facts straight.

  • @dencal26

If you read the yahoo article, the kid said it was a school project and wasn't to be projected onto youtube and used as campaign bait. He's the one who posted the full version.

  • "The Capitol Times further noted that the person who posted the version with caption — Donna Gratehouse, who writes for the blog Democratic Diva — ran unsuccessfully to unseat Huppenthal in 2006."

What kind of politician hides behind the class work of an high school student?

A democrat named Donna Gratehouse, that's the low life. Wish she were in my state so I could not vote for her.

  • great job!!

  • @krwags11 Good work dude!

  • @younitehumanity

The kid is a disgrace to honesty and decency

  • @dencal26 All this kid did was very simply prove Huppenthal to be a liar. He did it in a very respectful way and Huppenthal just had nothing to say, he got caught lying.

  • Comment removed

  • @1chamberlain1 Actually (regarding Huppenthal), the bill, which was part of a two-bill package that closed a $650 million deficit in FY09, did three things: roll over $100 million in university funding; roll over $300 million in K-12 funding; and cut $250 million from K-12, but backfill the cuts with an equal amount of federal stimulus money. Additionally, budget documents from JLBC show the career and technical education funding levels are unchanged from FY09 at about $11.5 million.

  • @dencal26 *LOL .. very funny dencal26 - in view of where the world is now situated due to the deceptive practices and reporting by greedy corporate, elite, govt. and the powers that be/ or were

hahahaha .. gooooolly you almost had me sucked in for a minute, that you were serious

    Cheers

  • hey I saw your piece featured in the Young Turks. keep up with the good work man.

  • pwnd

  • Good job, you stumped Huppenthal so bad... good work with your research before hand...quality work too,

    "well lets move on then"

  • Well played sir.

  • Keith rocked Huppenthal's face!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Keith, way to stick to the man! Great journalism. You even were featured on the "The Young Turks". The first online new program. They have a huge following. Search: "High School Student Destroys State Senator" on youtube

keep up the good fight, brother.

  • 104,000 students participating in CTE programs with $57,000 funding. They could literally ask the students to each bring a $5 donation to the class and double that funding. Absolutely pathetic..

Good luck Keith, and thank you for shedding some needed light on the issue

  • @krwags11 Good luck getting help for the CTE programs. One of my biggest regrets in high school was not attending the local technical school. It would've saved me years in college, by teaching me that what I thought I wanted to do... I did not actually want to do. I can only imagine how much time and money I would've saved.

  • As a broadcast major I understand being frustrated that your video was used in a way you didnt appreciate, but you did not clarify that he came back. Your report leads the viewer to believe that he did not return to the interview and even if he did, nothing he said was newsworthy enough for you to mention. It isnt false accusations by others reporting that piece of your video because at no point did you clarify what happened after he left. Good piece of journalism nonetheless.

  • Amazing job man. Keep up this spirit. You did a much better job than any journalist working for the big media would! Although I am not for new taxes, because I believe alternative and more creative ways of raising funds can be found, I nevertheless like how you came prepared and the hypocrites unveiled themselves by not being able to answer one easy question

  • Amazing job man. Keep up this spirit. You did a much better job than any journalist working for the big media would!

  • If Kelso was here, BUUURRRRNNNNN!!!!!!

  • You would clear this up if you were able to post a video of his return-since you did record it all....

  • Outstanding reporting!!!

  • truly amazing to make a man with so much power, completely speechless. you are an amazing interviewer! Keep up with this stuff! you're going the right way in life, that's for sure

  • This is what great journalism is all about. Go Keith, never let the truth not to be told!

    Josephine Duchett

  • Good job. Good luck and hope to see you in the future in some sort of media or news coverageof the political landscape.

  • This kid is good. He's asking questions that most "professional" reporters don't have the guts to ask. Obviously Huppenthal was not expecting such intelligent questions. I have to admit it's funny to see politicians squirm when they are asked "tough" questions.

  • Funny how I have never heard of one instance of administrators, or legislators offering to cut their own salaries in order to balance a budget.

    Great reporting kid.

  • It sounds like you are upset with the way that your post was used. You must understand that what you did was nothing short of Katie Couric verses Sarah Palin circa 2008. Of course, it is on a smaller level. The glaring problem is that he was touting the importance of education and he couldn't even recall a bill that he voted on 1 year earlier. This is a big problem. It is not just Huppenthal. It is a lot politicians that pretend to care, but are hypocritical in their actions. Keep fighting!

  • Amazing Journalism Keith...you were a rockstar in that interview...way to go

  • Talk about pointing out the facts. Keith Wagner really did a number on the interview. I wonder why all repporters dont point out the facts on the courrupt school officials like this. Im not speaking about the guy being interviewed but i know quite a number of corrupt officials supposedly concerned with thier buget money and how its being used to supposedly "help" people.

  • I want to go back to 5 staring vids like these. Budget cuts are a VERY Big concern in our childrens education.

Now this is a little more insight to how the state spends the school budgets. I recently got out of highschool, and am not willing to endure a lack of resources in college because a plan to save money backfired. I cant say i have a lot of talent in as many fields as i like but i do have ingenuity to work. Anyone who wants to apply themselves should be able to afford it.

  • Very well done, you are a great journalist!

I have to say, I am looking at the related videos on the right tab, and notice that the "Huppenthal gets schooled" video has ~145,000 views, compared to the 8,335 on this video. This is what is wrong with politics, especially in America; people are drawn to media with a heavy bias, both liberal and conservative. They took a fine piece of work and used it to attack a politician. Sadly, people just aren't concerned with facts anymore.

  • Arizona cuts the fat? GREAT! Most of those kids are illegals & anchor babies, who need to go back to Mexico.

    .

As I said if they are going to offer Vocational and Technical training above and beyond high school curriculum on tax dollar, than the kids need to compete for limited slots, for which they can be cut (fired) if they don't show talent and motivation to learn that skill. That is LIFE! This is why there is community Vo-Tech colleges which YOU pay for, not the public.

  • So I am curious, specifically if Keith Wagner could answer, that would be great, I saw this piece specifically on a Yahoo! article and it looked interesting. If Keith did eventually come back, where did he go and why did he never answer the questions or look up the information needed while he was gone?

  • This is a school project rate this on the quality of the project not if you agree with the issues. He does a quality job on the project and I sure hope he got an A+ on it. And about the issue at hand, these type of programs prepare students for blue collar jobs, as everyone knows are the bread and butter of our economy. To cut these type of programs out is detrimental to the economy. How much tax dollars do you think you are losing by not letting these students learn these valuable skills?

  • Maybe the teachers that think it's "detrimental" should tell their union to not spend millions upon millions of dollars on political candidates and put that money back into the schools...you know...for the children.

  • Good job Keith. I am not anti or pro Huppenthal, but according to the Yahoo news article Huppenthal came back and sat down after leaving the interview. Your video report doesn't include anything about his return. What did he say when he came back? You made the man look ignorant, which for all I know he may be, but you should have included something about him returning in your report. Please tell me... what did he say?

  • @krwags11 Good job on the story, but just remember that the government is spending money it doesn't have. They have to make cuts and it is not going to make anyone happy. Just because Washington will supplement money shouldn't make the math any different. If it is not worth 12 million to the state, it shouldn't be worth 12 million to the US government as well. We are in tough times and programs, sadly, are going to have to be cut. Great story though!! You have a great future ahead of you

  • If the state doesn't have the money it needs to make cuts. I don't know enough about this program but this is going to happen and needs to happen across the entire Country. These cuts are tough, but if no one has noticed, the money is not there for all these programs. It is going to be a tough couple of years to get ourselves out of the bind we are in Nationwide. If you think it is hard in Arizona, you should come to New York. Our state is in shambles!! We need to cut programs as well...

  • Where's the rest of the interview with him?

Nicely done btw, not from USA but I hope the cut doesn't happen :(

  • Well boys and girls you have to CUT things some times.... MAY BE if YOU and your parents would take your EDUCATION seriously from K -12 you would learn something. MONEY does not educate... You don't get educated by force.... I think students that want EXTRA training on my TAX money need to compete for it. The smarter better prepared kids get advanced. The dumb ass kids with patents that don't care become day labor to replace the illegals we need to kick out of the USA. EARN YOUR EDUCATION!!

  • @gmcjetpilot If that were how it worked, you would most certainly be one of "the dumb ass kids."

In other words, you are illiterate and a moron.

  • @jonnerbuns23

    Dear Troll:

I'm a 49 yr old married Airline Captain with two master's degrees. I worked my way through undergrad and paid for every penny, graduated with honors in mechanical engineering (LSU '85). For Grad school (UW '91) l had partial tuition help from my employer, Boeing. I HAD TO WORK FOR IT! Reading, writing and basic HS math doesn't take $500 Mil. Vocational-Tech training should be done at community collages, YOU pay for kid. Hit the fields and pick crops lazy dumb ass.

  • @gmcjetpilot Even if you think you paid for for all of your costs, if you went to LSU you were going to a public school and the cost of your education was subsidized by the state. This is why there is in state and out of state tuition. This is why tuition is substantially less at public schools then private. As for your tone, I certainly wouldn't want to be on a plane piloted by you.

  • @jonnerbuns23

My kids go to private schools. The reason isn't that public schools in our zip code are bad. We just don't want kids like you to rub off on them. Their college accounts are fully funded, but both might get scholarships! We don't expect hand outs. We worked with our kids on academics at home, and they excel. My wife and I both value education. As a M.D., Pediatrician, my wife sees parents with kids like you, begging her to drug the kid with Prozac. I now understand. GO TO WORK!

  • @jonnerbuns23

I have seen vocational training at high school. It is piss poor and a waste of money. Some kids have NO TALENT or motivation. If they want to learn a skill, they can go to a shop, auto repair, plumber, carpenter and ask to work for free. Sweep floors in exchange for apprenticeship. May be states can give some tax break to the shop and kids get school credit? If a kid is interest and has talent and modivation, great. If they go and goof off, they get FIRED. Great lesson.

  • @jonnerbuns23

I learned electronics and had a Ham radio license by 13. I was a licensed pilot by 18. I pumped gas and washed planes to pay for flight lessons. I fly a Boeing 757 for a living today. You have to want it, sacrifice and dedicate yourself. For 15 months I saved money as a welder, ship fitter and auto mechanic before going to college. Throughout college I worked as a waiter. I paid 100% of my books & tuition.

  • That was cool. This proposition would raise taxes 1%. Which taxes? Most propositions raise sales taxes, which is sad. Or is it real estate taxes? We should be raising capital gains taxes. Sales taxes hit the working class the worst.

  • Raising capital gains taxes would hit the unemployment levels even worse. Raising capital gains would be the worse thing to do during a tough economic time we are in right now. It is smarter to cut programs in a tough time than to raise taxes.

  • @aaroncmiller

That's a myth - no one wealthy puts their money in a mattress.

Low capital gains taxes and high wage taxes makes it almost impossible for the working classes to invest. Why do you want only the rich to invest? That's like saying let's help the poor by giving their money to the rich. It's absolutely ludicrous.

As for cuts, yes, we need to cut government salaries to match the private sector working class. Then they'll start enforcing labor laws, fair taxes, and living wages.

  • 3:20 :)

  • Very good job! I do not like the conclusion however. Raising taxes is not the solution to out of control spending. How come the solution is always cutting student programs instead of eliminating administrators? What is the cost of all of the ESL programs? What is the cost of all the remedial classes for illegals? What is the cost of all the free lunches? Huppenthal is a dope.

  • Keith - Thank you for your honest reporting - I look forward to becoming a lifelong fan of your work as long as you keep this honest approach. Our country needs more reporters like you to bring back integrity and trust to our news media. Good luck and thank you again.

  • I teach a TV media arts class at a career tech ed school in Ohio. We too are suffering budget cuts & my program is slated to be closed at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. It frustrates me that there are political decision makers that are so naive & arrogant. Keith, even though I'm 3 times zones away from you and have never met you, as an instructor of a media arts program, I am very proud of what you accomplished with this story. Excellent job! More voices can make change. Keep it up!

  • @buckeyephilly95 - I agree it is a good story, but you know that cuts need to be made. When it happens it is tough, but without cuts, we, as a country, are on a tough, tough path.

  • Some of the best news reporting I've seen in ages! It makes me wonder when professional journalist became such spineless shills, who are too lazy to research beyond a politicians press release. Keith Wagner is the man to watch.

  • my man keith keepin' it real!

you got any stories on the assault on ethnic studies?

  • Hummm... Enforce immigration laws, will you.......The big governemnt will see about that!

What!! Education budget cut!?! WTF!! The government should be cutting the give-a-way taxpayers dollars programs, to ner-de-wells (ACLU, ACORN, ETC!!) Stop paying the benifits to illegals for health, housing, education, and medical handouts!!!

  • Great job! This is really good. Unfortunately, representatives will now be too scared as to accept an interview with you :P

  • Great job reporting! Are you are part of the TV Production vocational course? If so this video alone is good evidence the program should stay -- a budding star reporter!

  • Awesome to see such excellent production values and interviewing in a student activist effort. Please re-edit, and put the fact that the video that viewers are about to watch cost the State $26 million dollars of Federal funding, and how the State managed to lose the money. This is really powerful stuff. I have added you to favorites, and look forward to more news pieces. Go Keith! The US needs more people like you getting busy.

  • this is proof that even the people we elect want us to be a poor nation that imports, and doesn't work, great piece, I would of nailed that senator and asked whats so funny, this is our kids and my life we are talking about, what a prick to laugh in your face

  • Pssshh, whatever. It's not our views that got that article written (although it's good to see a man with some humility). It's you and you're superb report. Keep this up, man. We need more reporters like you in this country.

  • 104,000 students without a classroom? Ridiculous. Education should be the absolute last thing any government cuts from its budget. Why Arizona feels it should be amongst the first, I'll never know. Great report, Keith! Keep it up. Extremely informative.

  • Awesome. I hope this spawns a long career.

  • Well done Mr. Wagner. You have a bright future ahead of you. You might give Rachel Maddow a run for her money in a few years. Well done.

  • Get this as a note on the guy's Wikipedia page. In a few years, when he runs for something serious (or comes to attention again), this needs to be front and centre. John McCain described this guy as a "straight-shooter" and a "friend of the taxpayer", I'd like to see all of the media pieces that called him a completely empty shirt quoted beside that. Plus it would be good for Keith Wagner's name-rec long-term, which he deserves after this. Stirling work kid.

  • What a spineless coward, walks out and lies about "coming right back."

  • oh my REAL VIDEO JOURNALISM

    thank you thank you

  • @krwags11

    You r the man!

  • Awesome job buddy...it is people like you that dig into these kinds of "red tape" issues that get to the real answers. Keep it up!

It is too bad that Huppenthal is too scared to address these issues and just ran away like a scared little kid...maybe you can take his place when you graduate?

  • Keith, you give me hope for the future of journalism. Keep up the great work.

  • Great stuff, keep up the good work... Huppenthal you'de know he was a sneeky slimeball.

He looks like the poor dog who has diarrhea and just shit all over the kitchen floor and has that nervous 'It wasn't me look" and then starts scurrying into another room..

  • I hope they give you Helen Thomas's seat!

  • Being a journalist myself, this makes me confident that the next generation of journalists will continue to be the critical thinkers and unflappable pursuers of truth we need in the Fourth Estate.

I hope Keith gets a full ride to a great journalism school, like U of Miss or Arizona State...

  • Good job! Keep asking the tough questions that keep them scared.

  • Keith Wagner continue this good work. Put the truth and facts as it is on the republican corrupted party table and let them fess up or be on the run. Shame to these scam bags in tailored suit. May the good Lord open their eyes about their evil ways and lies.

  • Good job Kid, keep those politicians accountable. Nice ambush journalism gets em all the time.

  • SCUM BAG CAUGHT ON CAMERA

  • John Huppenthal, you're scum.

  • Excellent reporting! You are doing a better job than a lot of "professionals" I see on television.

  • @krwags11 That was amazing. you knocked the wind out of huppenthal with ... facts.

    Fantastic.

  • Have you seen John Huppenthal's website? He's trying to say this whole thing was a sham created by clever video editing. XD

  • @Agentrjdark Just checked out his site. What a royal prick.

  • This video is awesome.

  • Awesome job man! Very investigative and ths is exactly the material that is needed in the media nowadays. Too much shit is walking around telling us about the world, but you got something here.

  • you have to stop shaking your head after every word they say and stop saying uhu

    <
