I miss riding it!
I'm sad to see that it failed to the point where you gave it up, though I'm sure it's better than spending cash to fix it back up. It was in extreme rough condition when I got it, and it was in rough condition when you bought it from me.
I finally got hispeed at home now, so anytime you see me online, gimme a holler!
Your bike sound WICKED.. I have a 79 myself. The problems with cam chain tensioner was 78 yr, Honda replaced under warrenty, if the replacement has been done, there should be 3 marks next to the serial number on the engine, in a triangular pattern. There bikes were very reliable, getting over 100,000 miles is common. Biggest probleem now is when the CDI fails Honda no longer sells them.. however people are working on replacements..the electronics are not that complicated.
with the loud pipe u can still hear the famous front engine ticking that these bikes are known for, great bike though i have one just like it with 160,000 KMs on it.
just obtained a 1982 cx 500 turbo, was surprised to find little information on them.
Since its been sitting most its life ill give it a check up before i get to know it ... seem a lil top heavy as well. Dont know what to think about that huge faring for such a massive beast.
My bike looks just like that, een has the same fade on the gas tank. Mine is lowrred right now, because i bought it tah way, and i have all of the plastics.
Too bad to hear it quit on you. I have a '80 CX500D, same colour, looks like yours, but I added factory carrier cases and a bikini fairing. Still going strong.
I'm sad to say that the CX500 threw in the towel about a month ago. I think the engine blew up? I got my fun out of her and will always remember learning to ride on her and the looks I would get and the thumbs up and waves from fellow riders. No plans on fixing her. I gave her to my brother-in-law. No plans of getting another bike soon. No garage where I live now. Thanks for all the comments. Long live the memory of my $50 dollar bike, the 1980 CX500 Deluxe.
My first bike, I bought the bike cheap and fixed it up, later selling it to my buddy, Dayspring1971. I ended up buyin an engine and gettin it rebuilt, the exhaust I bought at my town's Honda dealer shop, stock as far as I know, I didn't modify it at all. I love how it sounds, and I hope it gives you years of good memories my friend. Kinda suprised to see the vids been viewed 812 times :)
I have the same mac 2 into 1 in my cx and it sounds about the same. all of the fiberglass packing in my muffler came out though, so i wonder if you took the baffle out of your muffler or something. that seems louder than I rememder it sounding with the muffler intact.
I am not sure if the baffle is still there to be honest with you. I bought the bike from a friend and he had the exhaust system put on way before I bought it. It does sound loud and mean! I get a lot of looks!
