Watching Jaco videos crack me up. If it's a video of him with Weather Report everyone talks about how much groove he has and how great a bass player he was and how cool it was when he did x, y and z. If it's a video of him doing a solo it's always the same "this has no feeling" bullshit. And it seems to be the same for EVERY virtuoso player whose videos I watch. The guy keeping those tight ass basslines is the same dude doing those crazy harmonics-laden solos and to me it's all kinda cool.

I play bass and this song is almost impossible to play. as you can see Jaco is making mistakes and he wrote it! on the album Jaco recorded the bass and octave notes on seperate tracks. I was able to play this song perfectly when I was a teenager. but no way can I do it now

this is possibly the best song ever made. when i play this record people bring up mario bros. but this predated that by seven years. i''m almost positive that koji kondo listened to weather report.

I wish the keyboards were just a little louder. Zawinul really got the most out of that Oberheim 8 voice Poly synth. Its really 8 independent synths wired together with the ability to tweak each note individually. That's why it sounds so fat. Each voice is detuned ever so slightly and EQ'd a little different. Also sounds like a couple voices have a slower filter attack. Really cool. He used two ARP 2600's because one was tuned backwards!! i.e. ascending was C,B(C#),Bb(D),A(D#) ect. Mind blowing
