Confederate riflemen are the TRUE heroes of America. They can play a beautiful tune on their banjo and fiddle, then get up the next morning and blast an enemy officer off his horse from 1,000 yards away!
yeah, me too. supposedly ron maxwell and ted turner were going to do Last Full Measure based off of Jeff Shaara's book to complete the Gods and Generals and Gettysburg Trilogy, but i think with the flop of Gods, they probably wont. i think they should.
This is pure Mountain Music! It was brought to the mountains just like folklore, from those who came to this country long ago from Scot's and Irish decedents. They brought with them their music and instruments. You will still find this kind of music in the mountains of east Tennessee and western North Carolina. It's Appalachia at its best! Thanks for giving the world today a taste of the past....Beautiful!
yeah, as it's traditional its less likely to have sheet music. just listen to it and play it by ear. it takes more skill at an instrument to do that, admittedly (i certainly couldn't do that on my viola), but with practice it's managible.
very well put... :) Its a piece of our American history. That so many seem to forget or think is silly or "Hillbilly Put down" which it is not. I love it with a sense of pride. : )

Well most white southerners trace back to Celtic countries, but make no mistake black southerners helped create southern bluegrass music.

Not only in a civil war movie.
This sort of music would do very well in a remake of ''the Grapes of Wrath'' or a new film about the mine strike at Harlan County Kentucky as well.
helmuthoorn 2 years ago
I'd love to see a movie on the Harlan County strike.

Do you realize that with uploading all this you are sharing the core of the old musical tradition of your nation with people all over the world ?
The film was good, but the music in it is another category and will remain long after the film is forgotten.
