There is a difference between triggers and a sampler.

He's got a sampler on his bass drum so he only has to play half as fast with his feet (Probably advised because of how fast the song is and it is a long show)

Drummers that use triggers are only using this to send a better signal to the front of house engineer, Plus it means they can play faster and the bass drum does not get lost in the mix. It is still drumming
