The beginning feels/sounds like "the death". Then makes the transition to "the rebirth." I think Chopin made this piece to remind us of our mortality. Just my opinion. /shrug
Incredibly beautiful piece and wonderfully played. And thanks so very much for providing the score, which is fun to follow while listening to the music. I am getting hours and hours and days and days of enjoyment from this posting. Appreciated the bit of comment / explanation and history as well. ... Helene Grimaud, too, does a heavenly interpretation, as does Horowitz.

Oh.....my.....goodness. I thought that pieces like adagio for strings and moonlight sonata were good....but wow. This one was amazing.
