No, this is summer. I'm located in the mountains of Colorado where we get Rufus, Caliope, Broadtail and Black Chinned hummingbirds from mid May to early September.
Even though there's some fighting going on, your birds get along SO much better than mine do! Maybe when there's this many of them, it's impossible for any one bird to "rule", so they all just have to tolerate each other when visiting the giant red flower/swimming pool/feeder! :-)
I live in memphis TN, and I love sitting in my backyard and wahing hummingbirds! All ive seen this summer is the ruby throated hummingbirds and maby i said maby a little of rufuos but i studied about ruby throated hummingbirds in second grade just to mention im in fourth grade well going in to fourth grade!( :
I love hummingbirds! We have only the ruby throated here. In Arizona we saw all kinds. I love the calliope as well, the smallest in the States, I believe.
At any seed and feeder, farmer-rancher supply store or you can search on line. You need to modify it just slightly. I rough up the rim with course sandpaper (too slick to hold on easily) and paint the edge with brown to similute a twig. I also cut of the clips in the tray because they are hard to clean.
thanks - this is near Winter Park, Colorado. The base is a chicken feeder - I put the tub back into the base when I leave. 7 gallons last, just barely, until I get up there the next weekend!
Cool! I didn't know there were hummingbirds in CO--I thought they were mostly on the coasts. When I lived in CA I used to see many varieties of hummingbirds, but when I lived in NY there were only the ruby throated.
The Rocky Mountains seems to be the dividing line: east are only Ruby throated, mountains and west are the others. Here in Colorado we have 4 types: broadtail, which to me look exactly like rubys, rufus, black chinned and my favorite but rare and shy, the calliope.

Where the heck do you live? This is in winter, right? I believe that's the only time Rufous birds show up.

Great, Great video. You may like to see mine of a hummingbird eating out of my mouth. Search on youtube for odlaw18 and hope you enjoy it.

Is this sugar water in the dish? 25% sugar like I put in my feeders.

yes, no color required. also no need to boil - I use warm water to help dissolve and change as necessary depending how hot its outside.
